You are right, which is why I was cautioning the user to consider the final expansion when using it -- and it does expand a surprising amount. In building my own home I sealed all of the holes I cut in floor joists and rafters to bring in wiring and pipes from the outside and after over fifteen years nothing has nibbled their way through any of those. Must taste bad.

I need this for this exact reason. In the winter I have field mice climbing up through the holes where my pipes come through the floor. This stuff will do the trick then?
