This really is "great stuff" ...for those who have never tried it.

I have used this "Stuff" many times. It works well and this is a great deal as long as these aren't 5 year old cans. Just remember that it is A) Very sticky and won't come out of your clothes and is hard to wash off your hands; B) can't be stored once it is used as it will dry up.

I use it for sealing sill plates and window and door casings all of the time. Acetone will remove it. Great stuff -- but check the date on the cans since it has a limited shelf life. Also it expands a lot more than you think it will so as the old ad said -- "Just a little bit will do you". In other words, you are almost sure to have it expand to fill the cavity and then extrude out as it hardens. You can't use it where the foam will be exposed to sunlight as it quickly deteriorates in sunlight -- goes brown and crumbly. Otherwise it lasts for years.

Also be careful because it can expand a lot and warp whatever is next to it (i.e. window and door frames, etc...).

Gustavus, be VERY careful. It is fine if you use the proper amount, and the proper amount is hard to derermine. You just have to know from experence.

I used to have customers come in all the time saying that their windows do not open any more and they need new ones, and the first thing I would ask is if they had used great stuff. Many many times the answer was yes. I just told them to pull all that crap out and not use it.

Magically, their windows and doors started working.

Might be good to have a can in the car in case of diarrhea while stuck in traffic

You are right, which is why I was cautioning the user to consider the final expansion when using it -- and it does expand a surprising amount. In building my own home I sealed all of the holes I cut in floor joists and rafters to bring in wiring and pipes from the outside and after over fifteen years nothing has nibbled their way through any of those. Must taste bad.

I need this for this exact reason. In the winter I have field mice climbing up through the holes where my pipes come through the floor. This stuff will do the trick then?

I rented a small cabin in northern Michigan back in the dark ages for a year and at night the mice would come in around the pipes and party all night. Usually on the kitchen counter!
Foamed around all water pipes and also the gas pipe for the water heater. No more nightly visitors.
I've heard that steel wool will do about the same thing, but I have never tried it.

On TV I think. If they can get their head through a hole their body will go through with no problem. And they have some fine chewing teeth to make a hole larger!

There is a low expansion formula ideal for this purpose that will not buckle your work area. If you need it for windows, doors, or sheet metal housings (like TTW condensor units) get the low expansion stuff.
