Gotta agree with the guy who said Temple of the Dog. Chris Cornell is a great singer, they are a great band. Soundgarden & Audioslave were popular, don't know why Temple wasn't.

TON had a decent run back in the early-mid 90s. They were know in the metal circuit but I could never see them hitting it too mainstream. I think maybe they lost a little credibility when Peter Steele(i know...) posed for Playgirl. Doesn't seem very dark and metal to be showing your wang off in a magazine.

While most of them were/are a bit out there, some were pretty normal. See Tomahawk, Peeping Tom, General Patton vs. The X-Ecutioners, Dillnger Escape Plan EP, even Lovage was not that bizarre, and some of the Fantomas stuff wasn't that out there either (though a good chunk of it was).

Blue Oyster Cult has been on a continuous tour for as long as I can remember (25yrs?) -- and still sound decent, so I think I'd rate them as Successful -- not unsuccessful.

I was going to add The Cult -- but google tells me that they, too, have toured recently and also put out a new cd less than a year ago.
