I know the AFI (American Film Institute) has their 100 greatest movies of all time, but I'd like to see what movies you AnandTech'rs like the most. I guess we should just start a list, name a few movies that are your favorites, or that you consider to be the best of all time. I'll start:

One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest
The Seven Samurai

Not exactly a classic (and I do have some favorites that ARE classics), but I like

Jurassic Park
The Shining
(the atmosphere and setting was so great in that movie)

More as I think of them.

Spindler,

Fast Times At Ridgemont High? You must have just tossed that in there to make sure people were actually reading your post. That movie was grade C horny highschool hijinks. It sucked.

Some people will probably freak at this, but I think The Matrix is gonna be considered a classic eventually. The first time you leave that movie, your just blown away because its something that's PROBABLE if doubtful or unlikely. It set a new standard for visual effects, and I think is the best computer-related movie yet.

russ,

fast times at ridgemont high was awesome. i guess it works more for you if you happen to be a preteen adolescent at the time you first watched it as you can relate to it much more LOL

you ever notice that when you watch the same movie once every 3 or 4 years that your feelings and reactions about the events in the movie changes?

i noticed that now when i watch fasttimes, some scenes which would have me bowling over with laughter would just get a slight chuckle now and other scenes which wouldnt bother me before, would slightly irritate me. it also doesnt have such a profound effect on me anymore, but its still one of my favorites it makes me feel youthful again and conjures up sweet memories of when i was an adolescent teen growing up

aaahh.... this is a special movie. as is breakfast club c'mon, anyone else grow up in the 80's besides me who can relate to this?

say, i wonder whatever happened to phoebe cates? hehe

OK - it's a little cheesy, but how about Gone With The Wind? It is one of my all time favorites for sure!

Another one I love is The Black Stallion. Not sure it should be considered a classic, but a great movie nontheless.

Of course, THE greatest movie of all time is Monty Python's Holy Grail, but I don't think it will make AFI's list.

I really loved this one movie called The Warriors, too... saw it at least 10 times at the midnight movie theater, along with Led Zepplin's The Song Remains The Same.

Warriors.... Come out to plaaaa aaaaay!
