Cower and Johnson ahead of Shula...that's laughable.

Tom Landry for sure, anyone who says differently is crazy, he is by far the best coach.

I wouldn't put him up there but SI ranks Parcells as #6 of all time.

Have yall looked at who had Bellecheck (sp?) as a coordinator when he won a super bowl (maybe 2, too lazy to check)? Thats tuna. I am a cowboys fan, not pats but it makes me wonder if tuna won those trophies or if his staff did.

Finally... A Chuck Knoll sighting!!! Chuck knoll built the scariest team of the 70's and is probably the reason John Madden only won one SB.

No way Bill Cowher is on that list.

In no particular order...

Bill Walsh - He invented the offense that half the league still uses. He took a perinnial loser and made it into one of the greatest dynasties in pro sports. How many former assts have been/are head coaches in the NFL now? And then there are those three Lombardi trophies he won.
Chuck Knoll - Four Super Bowls. 'Nuff Said He's the reason Landry only won two SBs and Madden only saw one.
Don Shula - Most wins in NFL history. (Regular season (328) and all-time (347)) Five SB appearances (2-3 but oh well). He averaged 10 wins a season in 33 years as a head coach.
Joe Gibbs - 3 SBs wins in four appearances in 12 seasons. (With three QBs) Only one losing season in 12 seasons. Came out of retirement to a completely different game and has again fielded a winner making it to the divisional round of the playoffs last year.
Tom Landry - Five SB appearances and two Lombardi trophies (Yet another victim of Chuck Knoll). Coached the Cowboys to 20 consecutive winning seasons, still a record. Holds the record for most playoff wins. He is also credited with inventing the 4-3 defense. I hate the Cowboys but Landry was a hell of a coach.

There are a lot of current coaches who could be on this list, but I think you wait until their careers are over to pass judgement. Obviously Bill Belichek is right there. You can't argue with three SB wins. Mavin Lewis has done a spectacular job so far as has Lovie Smith. But neither of them have seen the Super Bowl yet. Dungy fields a winner every year but can't seem to get out of the playoffs. What's more, Chucky took his Tampa team and won a SB with it. Jimmy Johnson? He had a spectacular run with the 'Boys. Hard to argue with is two SB wins. But basically he did it with a great core of guys and couldn't duplicate that success with another team. I suppose you cold say that about most of the coaches on my list (except Gibbs) but I was never JJ fan... and I hate the Cowboys.

One name I left off my list that I thought could have been on there was Marv Levey. But since he couldn't even pull off one win in his four trips to the SB I bagged him. And if Holmgren get the 'Hawks back to the SB and WINS he's on the list. No doubt about it.

that's list is the most accurate list i've seen so far.

How can you have a list with Cowher on it but not Chuck Noll? Like I said before, Chuck Knoll is the reason Landry only won two Super Bowls. He's the reason Madden only got to one Super Bowl and both of those coaches are on the list. Yet Cowher, with a slough of AFC Championship losses (many of them at home no less) and only one Super Bowl win is better than Noll with his four trophies? I don't think so.

knoll was a damn fine coach but the same reasons belichicks detractors slight him holds true for knoll. and i'm not saying i agree with it, just saying why they will discount knoll.

Gibbs #1? Um no but definately top 5. I'd take Lombardi. Landry, or Belichick over him. Madden didn't coach long enough to be in the top 5, imo. Jimmy Johnson would have been higher but he left before getting the 3rd SB... but based on length of tenure with Dallas and lack of production in Miami, I wouldn't put him in top ten (and I'm a big Jimmy fan).

Cause the entirety of his football knowledge was gleaned from the Sony Playstation.

I agree with a lot of the choices, though I might put shula closer to the top and try to squeeze holmgren in somewhere.

well, then i guess you're in for a surprise. bruschi may be a sparkplug, but what makes the pats go is Brady, Seymour, Wilfork and now Marroney. Pats go 12-4 this year (they better, i have the over )

if the pats go that far, it'd be because the afc will suck balls (just like it normally does... not saying the nfc was stellar the past couple years, though.)

WHAT!? bwaaahahahahaha.

... wait... you're serious?

dickerson was a player, not a team or coach. players get in the hall of fame by setting records.

gibbs' coaching record, by the way, is 157-82-0

parcells' coaching record, by the way, is 163-123-1

oh, by the way, gibbs came out of football coaching retirement after doing the whole nascar thing (where his team won a championship) to coach again... and turned the skins into a team with a winning record again... he even brought them to the playoffs!

Only to be in the basement of the NFC East this year
