Well... I spent like 2 months on LoD when it came out and it was boring. All the characters and the items were f*cked up "matrix" style. After about a month and a half I have 160/60 armor, Windy, Cruel Mat Bow on switch, Viper Whorls (rare rings from d2 classic with 41 life 35 mana and dual leech-->pwnage), Vampiregaze, Ias Gloves w/ KB & other stuff that I can't even remember.
I dueled for like half a month on LoD and it was mad GAY. Everyone used Buriza and got pwned ez by Cruel Matriarchal bow. Buriza was so slow and everyone would townhug like p*ssies and i would just go out and sniper town all game long and leave. Ahh. And every other class sucked except if you found a real good sorceress.
Anyway, I quit LoD and went back to Classic. I had played DII for a long time but I never found out about the "good" people in classic until I went back to it. Like 50% of the people went to LoD and I went back to Classic. It was fun as HELL. Like 1000 people played Classic on USEAST and you saw the same peeps over and over. I knew everyone who played and I wanted to have one of the best barbs on USEast.
So It took me 1 summer (2002) and I had gotten a level 90 barbarian (ON D2 REG) and was #214 on the ladder. I knew around 100-300 barbarians that played and like 50 of them were really good. Everyone was competing for the "Best Barb in USEast" title , except that there is no "best" and that you only won by luck (because almost everyone had the same gear which consisted of Soul Scratch the 256 dmg Exe sword, Bitter Turns/Shadow Coil 13/13 Dual Stat 5 LL% Rings, Hsaru's Boots and Belt, Cruel Finger gloves with 19str/14dex gloves with life etc, and for armor there would be 2 main ones--Carrion Carapace which is a 897 Defense 35 Mana Ornate Plate that looked Bluish. The other main Ornate was Raven Flange which was 888 and 14 DEX 36 LIFE & some other mods. Basically, you had BLUE or RED/BROWNISH armor. And for helm, everyone used Sigon's Helm and Shield combo which gave a BUNCH to AR+. The amulet every barb used mostly for BvB was Corruption Heart (+2 barb, 17 dex, 56 life , some other mods).
But my barb was unique...He had a 902 Ornate with 41 LIFE and 35 MANA "Beast Coat" which only like 5 people had. The items with the names like Bitter Turn, Corruption Heart, and Beast Coat are rare items. There's only one type of rare item but due to some duplicating methods, everyone that was somebody had these "dupes".
So basically for 1 year after I had gotten to 90, I dueled practically every barbarian and found out that there is no such thing as the best barbarian, but there are SH*TTY Barbarians and GOOD Barbarians.
Then 1.09 came and halfway through, some guy found out how to get LoD (Expansion) Items into Classic D2 but they were only Unique. That was the gayest thing ever. Classic Barbs had started to use Xpansion items and they were WAYYY "Matrixed" out. I remember I had dueled one Barbarian with Expansion gear who was a level below me and unexpectedly, I beat him ONCE out of like 10 duels. Roflmao. He had like 5000 damage and most Classic barbarians did less than 1000 Dmg. I did exactly 1000 DMG and had 13K AR with 10K Defense. Regular barbs that used Raven Flange had like 9500 Defense, 900 Damage, and 12-13-14K AR.
The items got on every character on Classic and it was so gayed out. So i quit for like 3 months. Come back later and they're still in use and people are still dueling. So I play a little while on classic and next thing you know, patch 1.10 hit (August 28, 2003). That patch ruined life on Classic D2....It changed every f*cking character and how he dueled and shit. It was so gay.
So I quit like around this time last year.
