This pointer is significantly brighter (about 50 times) than a red laser pointer and because of its unusual color it is much more noticeable. I mean come on, a 532 nm green laser wavelength is obviously superior to a laughable 650 nm red laser wavelength. And unlike a red laser, the green beam itself can be seen in mid-air in dark conditions, not just the laser beam dot. This allows the green laser pointer to be used for pointing to star constellations (skypointing) and also just generally look cool as hell. The green laser beam dot can be seen at much greater distances than with a red laser pointer.

Yeah, that's some good stuff, but the price certainly reflects it. It must also take a lot of juice to put out a wave like that. Good find though.

5 milliwatt green lasers are al the rage at astronomy star parties ( except astrophograpers who can't stand them ) great for pointing out objects in the night sky, just be carefull these laser will burn your eyes in a serious way unlike the usual red laser pointers. the ones made by Howie Glater are the ones I see most............

I've been lusting over these for quite awhile. Have seen 'em on eBay for well over a year, but unlike the red pointers, apparently mass production hasn't kicked in yet on these. Have yet to see one drop below the $100 mark. I'll wait a little longer!

If this is true, they must make one for gunsites. The big problem with red is that it is very difficult to see the dot on the target in sunlight. I wonder if the green can be seen better in sunlight also. I would think so.

I read somewhere that human eyes see best in the "green" wavelengths. That is why night vision systems use green instead of any other color. So if this is indeed true, I would guess that it would be more visible.

These are the most powerful lasers available to consumers in the US, and they have been illegal in the UK for a while. It is possible to cause serious eye damage in the <1/4 second that it takes the blink reflex to activate. These are really only good for use in "sky pointing" constellations out, because you can see it in the air. DO NOT LET anyone who is not in control of themselves mess with one of these. If the filter cap is taken off, it emits both 532nm and 1064nm beams, putting it around the 15mw range, at which one can take serious eye damage from reflections. Gunsights have no need for these, you are much better off with a better red laser. $150 is pretty much the standard price for the economy-model(non 24k-gold-plated, legal in the US) 532nm 5mw lasers, and while it isn't a hot deal, you won't find it much lower outside of Ebay. The reason that these have not taken off as consumer laser pointers is the risk of blinding someone by inadvertantly pointing it in their eyes.

As I was waiting for the page to load, I was thinking back to the good ol' days... when I had friends who would steal a laser pointer from a store because they cost nearly $100. But now they're so affordable.

Then I saw the price... :Q

That would be awesome, then who/whatever you are shooting at can be directly traced to you.

No ibyte it CAN'T be traced to you because everybody who looked got blinded!

Hehehe, bad joke. But seriously, you could probably run around blinding people in some crazy fury. Instead of school shootings we'd soon see school blindings.

This same company had a blue laser pointer out last year, but they had to recall them because they kept slicing through everything they were pointed at

These things are starting to finally come down in price now. Can't wait to see them for $2.95 at the gas station.

No doubt this is a cool item, but I can get the red ones at my local dollar store. $150 is just too much money.

nice info squalish. As far as not being a 'hot deal', nobody has shown that they could find it for less. So for now, its a 'hot deal', and its kinda cool.
