anyone that is interested in high powered lasers, check these guys out; www.northernoptics.com - they have the best prices i have seen, i bought a 50mW unit from them for astronomy and im pretty happy, i also own a unit from laserglow and that unit is good also, but the price i paid at northernoptics is a fraction of what i paid at laserglow :|

Anyway to get this hot deal of 50.00 USD off the purchase price of the high powered units just email them about it before purchase and say CPF, this will give you 50.00 usd off, its not much but there prices are already nice.

These lasers are legal for USA, so no worries if using for astronomy. Also their site is a little vague says 50mW but it kicks out almost 80mW, it never drops below the rated output of 50 though..

Not a huge deal off ebay - i see some auctions in the $20's

I bought one of these about a year ago - it's pretty cool how you can see the beam at night. It travels very far too, I can shine it across the mountain and SEE it on the other side. However, it's really just a toy in the end

Do note: this is dangerous for your eyes! ... i got shined in my eyes for a breif moment when it reflected off a surface ~ temporly blinded X_X

They're great for Astronomy, especially for unassisted viewing, since you can see the green beam in the air making it very easy to point things out for other members of your party. They're also just plain fun since they can be seen MUCH farther away than the wimpy red lasers you can get from an electronics/department store.

But please, don't ever point them at a plane. I've been in the cockpit of a plane when that happened and it literally diffused bright green light over the whole cockpit and made it completely impossible to see anything outside the plane (and very hard to see anything inside the plane as well) for several seconds after the moron stopped flashing the plane until our eyes adjusted again.

Green Laser? Is this the unit that was all over the media a while back because the laser beam could melt plastic and even pop a latex balloon when shined on?

I want this one.

"The HPL-C series laser is the highest powered laser we offer. At 200mW this is extremely dangerous and it is recommended that laser safety goggles are used at all times when operating this laser. The HPL-C series laser has a peak output of 250mW and an average output of 200mW. The HPL-C series lasers should only be used for professional use."

They recommend goggles with use, because at this power, even the light reflected from a surface that the laser hits is going to be too bright to look at. Sort of like welding; you have a tinted mask for that too...

if the beam is invisible, whats the point?
also, lasers (any color) are banned at most star parties (for astronomy) because of all the problems that went on with aircraft.
