Fortunately they used cloth that can be removed and didn't use paint. OTH, if they staked the cloth that could have done damage.
"They are absolutely fragile. They are black rocks on a white background. You walk there and the footprint is going to last hundreds or thousands of years," said the minister. "And the line that they have destroyed is the most visible and most recognized of all."
Greenpeace is also sending its Executive Director Kumi Naidoo to Lima to apologize in person to the Peruvian government.
I hope Kumi is greeted at the airport with a shiny pair of bracelets.
but hey, greenpeace said they're sorry so...it's all good homies.
Great, now the aliens are going to crash into the ocean.
Footprints as irreparable damage? Does nobody else think they might be overstating their case? Greenpeace is a group of attention whores, but I don't think they're the only ones.
By walking all over it they disrupted the background which is created by essentially a covering of black rocks on lighter sand. Think of a sandbox that was covered in a fine layer of gun powder. Then walk all over it. What you have is tons of white spots now.Footprints as irreparable damage? Does nobody else think they might be overstating their case? Greenpeace is a group of attention whores, but I don't think they're the only ones.

After:
I somehow suspect that after it is/was removed it would be hard to tell they were ever there at least from the air.
No damage was done to the figure itself.
Still was stupid of them to do though.
No, this is the aftermath:
