Just wanted to say HI. I am the newguy here . Well just finished my first WU in 13 hours 40 minutes with GUI. Got 2 machines working right now. A Xp2200+ and a Duron 800 machine. If I can figure out this crazy linux stuff I can get this 166 I got hanging around up too. Also got a 1.4 t bird as well just need to get a mobo and hard drive and I think I can get a 4th machine up. Hehe fun with computer parts. Got a couple questions I am sure you guys can answer.

1. I noticed that there was some add ons to diplay stats on some of the data you process. Anyone recomend one for someone who doesn't know much about this

2. Also went to anandtech website and registered for the team but it never sent me the password. It said 15 minutes Anyway haven't been able to set a profile or any of that so if someone could maybe PM the dude who takes care of that and let him know. I even went a second time and requested password and it still didn't send it.

Anyway glad to be aboard and to help out. I got dibs on the first cute alien chic we find

First, I would be glad to be the first one to welcome you to our team.

Secondly, Sorry I can't help you with your Seti questions. I don't do seti right now so I couldn't help you. But you will soon find out that this team will help you in anyway poss. In a few min I am sure that someone here will be able to help you answer all your questions that you can think of.

Oh, and any chic we find goes strait into our hot tub. That way anyone will be able to "teach" her the ways of the Earthings.

Welcome to the TeAm. You should get some good production out of those machines. Are you running the GUI screensaver or the CLI version? The screensaver looks cool, and I did my first eighty or so WUs with it, but then I signed up for the TeAm here and discovered the CLI version, which cut the WU times way down.

For add-ons, I like SETIspy, particularly the feature that shows you on a star map where the WUs came from. The original creator had abandoned it after SETI@Home kept changing things on their end, but I heard a rumour somewhere that someone reworked it to run properly with WinXP, etc. now.

Greetings SpiffyGuy! Welcome to the Team!

Now, the signup you mentioned is at the www.teamanandtech.com site, right? It isn't critical to join, but all the same, I'll see about getting your password out. Brad or Mika can help if necessary, but first let me try having it re-send the password... if you don't have it within another 15 minutes at the email address that you used to sign up, let us know.

I am running th e GUI on both machines right now, OS is Win2ksp2 on both. If I can figure out this linux thing on the 166 then I will slap it on that too. Not that it will processes much on a 166mhz but hell it is lying around. I will check out that SetiSpy, be kinda cool to see where all this data is coming from. Now if I can just figure out how to set it up on all the machines here at work.... mybe bribe the NT guys. That would give me....bout 150 pII machines. Doubt it would happen but hey it is worth a shot

Mech, you seem to try to fix all the problems I have , I did the request at the teamanandtech site. Just checked email and still no password. Not that big of a deal but I figured I would report it in case it was broke. I did get an email from smokeball so I know that my email is working.

Welcome to the Team

If you want to move up in the stats, i recommend you use the CLI client. It is much faster than the GUI (screensaver), even with the GUI set to Blank Screen! When you feel the need for stats, and want to get the full potential out of your machines (the XP should do ~3-4hrs, Duron 8hrs, 1.4 TBird ~6hrs per Work Unit) then i recommend you move over to the CLI. There is a quick start guide to setting up the CLI, Preferred Method 2

You may also run SetiSpy with this, as others have given you a link to already

I hope you enjoy your stay here and visit us often, not only if you have a problem

Oh, btw, i've already got dibs on first cute alien chick, tho you can have the second...unless we find both at same time in which i'll look after both, you can have the first of the second lot of cute alien chicks :Q

I caught a terminal case of Helpfulness Syndrome from the exellent people on the Team, they are always falling all over eachother to help people, in here I'll email the Powers That Be regarding your password.

Well I will check out the CLI version when I get home. I noticed it processed much faster set to blank screen so it should cut times even more. Of course I will miss the pretty graphs though

Mech as usual thanks for all the help.

Welcome to the TeAm, SpiffyGuy! Great to see new TeAmmates but even better to see them in the forums here!

I would agree with some of the others here. You're going to get a lot better production out of your machines if you either use the GUI w/blank screen or even better the CLI client. I use the CLI client as a service on all of my NT/2000/XP boxes.

One thing I would not recommend is running SETI on that P166. I might get some flack from other members but IMO a P166 is just too slow to run the SETI client. It would not even come close to doing a WU in a day.

OK the opinion of the newbie is USE CLI. Cut the time by 1/3. Did a WU in a bit over 4 hours and was doing web surfing too on my XP2200 machine. Wow. Dropping CLI on my 800 now too. Got SetiSpy up and running too. Anyway got a big WOOT I got 6 WU done
