Yep, it's true. We've got a couple of new members, that's cool.

And tomorrow is Cobra's flush day, so check the S@NL Teaminfo page tomorrow-evening. The complete story will be there...

I also noticed that IBM was passed bij The Planetary guys, so they will be the new target when we finally take HP.

Terrific shots.

I have a question.

When is a company, a company and when is a club team, a club team?

Our team is a team, because we interact with eachother and have fun.
Cobra's production may soon be the biggest part of our production, but that has no influence on our team. Ofcourse we will advance in the stats, but we stay a team.
Cobra has proven to be a team player, and nothing can change our team in something that we don't want it to become. The team has become much more important then the production, the interaction is what makes it fun. The stats are just an extra element.

Not sure if that's what you mean, Smokeball, but here it is

Djewst,

As I looked at the pictures that CobraICE so kindly included with his post it occurred to me that what I saw appeared to be a "company".

I am not claiming foul because I do not know what are the "rules" for the various classifications.

On the "Create a new group" page there is the following:

Type of Group:

Club
Small Company (<50 employees)
Medium Company (50-1000 employees)
Large Company (>1000 employees)
Primary School
Secondary School
Junior College
University or Department
Government Agency

Let's say a child in a Primary School gets her father to crunch Seti WUs on his Large Company's mainframe. Would that be fair to the other Primary School teams?

I would like to know what constitutes a Club and what constitutes a Company?

You wrote, "Our team is a team, because we interact with eachother and have fun.

Is that the official criteria for the Club designation?

I am new to the Seti project and this is a serious question.

Smokeball: Teams like Anandtech & S@NL have lots of members that crunch with all the computers that they can get: School, work and at home. Some of our members only crunch at school, but others crunch at home and others crunch at work. (And some do all ).

Maybe the correct definition for a club team is the fact that you can't define what kind of club they are Just a bunch of true crunching fanatics

I think a company team should be like a bunch of people working at the same company combined in one team. Think of: Hewlett Packard, IBM, Intel etc. But still there are people on such teams that don't work there. So those borders are very vague.

Just because we now have got a member that uses 600 of his company's computer, doesn't mean that we're a company team. (Because I think that's what you were getting at right?) CobraICE works for that company, but there are still 1469 members in SETI@Netherlands that have nothing to do with that company.

I think the SETI@HOME team category's are pretty silly alltogether. I only check the the total rankings...

CobraICE
Thanks for the pics ,damn you have a lot power under your command!...............

Smokeball
I guess a club team consists of members from various different backgrounds ,a Company team would consist largely of company employees.
Hmm looks like Rickman2 beat me too it!

I see what you are getting at now, Smokeball, but I have to agree with Rickman and Assimilator1 on this one.
A club team consists of many people with different interests and that crunch at different locations.

And the most important thing is that we find out whether there are signals out there or not, that's our mission, and we can use all the help we can get, one way or the other.

Cobra: Nice pics dude! That's a lotta CPU power. Can't wait to see your production once you get everything installed and working together. Should be nothing short of amazing. Oh, I like the servers better with your logo on the side!

As far as the company/team thing, I don't think it's a big deal either way. In fact, I think it's cool that Cobra has access to all that CPU power and is willing to use it. So many companies frown on DC projects. When I joined Team Anandtech I started with a single PC and a single client. After a short while I put the client on my other home PC. Of course, this started the addiction and I added 2 more boxes and had the client on all 4 of my home PC's. Shortly after that I assimilated my work PC, then a few more work PC's, then everything 300Mhz or greater that I could get my hands on (I'm NOT addicted ). I think I've got about 55 clients now and all but 4 belong to work (Company). Does that mean I have to leave TA? He11 no, I say! The only way I'm leaving TA is kicking and screaming! :Q

and then theres the vultures nest, a "government agency" team that is really just a buncha guys on the forums of the register, noted computer rumor site. they did that because they couldn't stand the competition from real club teams like TA and S@N.

YES!!!

Today we passed HP in the world team rankings

One flush from Cobra and a couple of new members with almost 2000 wu's did the trick.

Next station: IBM
