Release Date: October 11th!

Availability: Steam, GoG, and Humble Store

Price: $17.99

If you're a fan of Diablo 2 and Titan Quest, I highly suggest you look into Grim Dawn. The base game has been out a while and everything is pretty much polished to a mirror sheen. Now we just have to wait for the expansion to be released.

I might as well slap the comparison stats on the first post so people can get an idea of how much content is in the expansion: http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=15650&d=1506108895

V1.0.2.0

[Major New Features]
  • The game engine has received a major overhaul to its renderer, allowing the game to run on DirectX11. While results will vary from system to system, this will generally result in improved performance.

[Game]
  • Rare Crafting Materials (ex. Blood of Ch'thon) can now be placed in the Transfer Stash.
  • Adjusted overall loot tables scaling with level. They now drop significantly less Common and Single Affix items as player level increases. This change also applies to the Crucible.
  • Increased drop rate of Rare items at all levels, scaling with game difficulty. This works in conjunction with above. Not only will less Single Affix items drop, but more of the Double Affix items will have at least one Affix of Rare Quality. Rare item drop rates remain unchanged in the Crucible.
  • Improved results from Random Crafting Blueprints. They will no longer generate single affix items. Items that roll a Rare affix will instead roll a Rare Affix + Magic Affix. In addition, the chance of generating a double Rare item from crafting has been increased. Increased chance of rolling a Rare Affix on Single-Affix Rare quality blueprints.
  • Increased drop rate of Ectoplasm from Ghosts
  • Increased drop rate of Frozen Hearts and Mutated Scales from Slith
  • Increased drop rate of Components from Chthonic Cultists, particularly of Consecrated Wrappings
  • Updated many spell and damage effects with more efficient particle counts and less bright spots, reducing the intensity of these effects when multiple overlap and marginally improving performance.
  • Inquisitor Creed and Kasparov have received new VO

So this is an expansion pack?

I've always wanted to try Grim Dawn (extremely disappointed with Path of Exiles), but I ended up just wasting my time on Diablo 3 again. Maybe this time I'll actually spend some time playing.

For those who don't already know, the base game is now only $9.99 through the Humble Store, until this weekend.

It's a fun game, but they do not attempt to cater to the "end game" ARPG types, which want endless levels and incentive to play for ever. Not that I haven't played 100's of hours, but it's always restarting a new character and trying different builds, not playing the same character forever.

Yes it's an actual expansion pack. Two new masteries, level cap increase to 100, new devotions, 60(?) new skills, hundreds of new armor sets, etc. It's going to be pretty big.

Grim Dawn has always followed the D2/TQ route and made the game about the story/leveling process. There's rogue dungeons that are extremely difficult and a few hidden quests you have to go out of you way to find that keeps players interested. Most people just enjoy getting to the end-game and tweaking their build, because aside from completely broken builds (looking at you 100% Retaliation Warder), the rogue dungeons can still be pretty hard.

This might have to wait for the bargain bin, also on the release date not that happy as well as it falls after a holiday. If they release it say on Friday, and gave folks a long weekend to play then that would be nice.

I do believe in supporting the studio, that is one reason I bought the game. But paying almost the same for DLC is almost a no no in my book. Granted if you look at other games it might be a bargain but just have to wait until it reaches like $5-$10 then might reconsider it.

Almost all expansion packs have been $20. Titan Quest and Diablo 2 were both $20 at launch. This is cheaper than $20 and will extend the game's life by hundreds of hours. I don't see how that's not worth $18.

Four more days!

Also, GrimTools was given the green light to added AoM content so you can theory-craft new builds. It seems with the new Mythic tier, PRM (Panetti's Replicating Missile) is going to get a massive buff and should be completely viable again, if not completely overpowered. The first few months should be balancing patches out the ass as players find new ways to break the game, but Crate are confident they have most of the balancing issues taken care of.

Patch notes have been posted.

First impression... holy hell this is awesome. The new classes, the new skills, the balancing on items (now it's actually useful to hunt for Nemesis MIs and craft greens with the guaranteed double affixes), the new devotions, the new areas, the new enemies.

To anyone saying this isn't worth $18, you are dead wrong.

It's still on sale on Steam for another 18 hours at the time of this post. I'm sure Crate have it 70% off everywhere for the same time frame, so if anyone has been looking at this game but can't decide, it's only $7.49 and that's a steal for the base game.

Expansion is looking good. Really enjoying my 2 Necromancers (Pets) and (melee)

Shame that not enough people are buying into Grim Dawn. It's probably the best game of it's type out there at the moment, online or not.

It was in the top 5 for Global best sellers almost all of last week. There are plenty of people playing, but since it's mainly a single player game, most people are just playing single player.

Most people play single player so they can manipulate saves and cheat a little (or a lot). There's almost no reason to play online unless you really want to group with friends.
I personally find Path of Exile to be MUCH better, but I guess my main reason is that an economy exists otherwise it would be a pretty close comparison.

Grim Dawn, in my opinion is the better game... but the lack of the online features that Path of Exile affords dulls my enthusiasm for GD.

Even if my guild solo plays Path of Exile, that social aspect within the game just makes the world of difference.

Must play more GD

So, for those playing, how is the expansion?

I haven't played GD since late beta/early release days, I would imagine big changes from that point to today?

I've been playing a bit of the necro. It's okay, but I ended up going back to my Nightblade. I'm just beginning to get to the new content on ultimate but it's mostly more of the same. Still, it's a fantastic break from Path of Exile for me.
