Kickstarter page:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/crateentertainment/grim-dawn?ref=live

A lead developer of TQ has the rights to use the engine and has been working with others on a sequl for a couple of years now. The Kickstarter fund drive is for hiring artists and animators full-time to finish the content part.

The KS page has pre-alpha gameplay footage.

I had a lot of fun playing TQ so I'm considering making this the third KS that I give some money to, joining WL2 and Shadowrun.

There was a lot I liked about TQ, but ultimately there was more that I didn't like and the end result was a lot worse than it could have been. I approve of the changes they're promising on Grim Dawn, I hope they make it work.

Went for the $35 level so I could check out the beta stuff. I would have gone $50 easily for a boxed version of the game, but that's $100. In their defense, the $100 boxed version includes a free copy of whatever the first expansion pack will be, which is cool, but still, I'd rather just have a $50 retail box version when it comes down to it.

promising future content as a perk seems dumb to me. if it fails, there will never be future content.

TQ was ok, not as good as Diablo 1 and 2 though. It had its own quirks that made it a bit annoying.

Wish I had 8 grand laying around. Would love a side quest. I have one I made for D&D way back in the day that could easily be transferred.

I thought that TQ was an OK game in the vein of Diablo. What makes me want to support this effort is (a) I really like some of the changes that the video indicated they were implementing. And (b) Diablo 3 is going to be always online, even for the single player game (WTH).

There have been a lot of kickstarter efforts around lately that have caught my eye. I hope we are seeing the evolution of PC gaming. Power to the people and down with the corps like EA who just want to cookie cutter games.

TQ was awesome. The only game besides Serious Sam that I played through more than once. I have never given through Kickstarter, but this may push me over the edge.

Looks a bit like a complex version of Torchlight Guns, grenades and lots of loot!

I may go for the $50 version as I'd like to see what it took to get where they are today [I'm a huge fan of reading non-fiction stories about technology] plus you get your name in the credits [sort of a "Hey ma - look at me I'm famous!"]

Am confused by this :

Digital download of finished game for PC, DRM free at a low price for your early support. Can be downloaded directly from us or via Steam and other distribution sites + Exclusive "Service Medal" in-game accessory, available only on Kickstarter.

Does this mean I get the game at the low price of an 18$ donation? Or does my donation allow me to download the game at a lot low price? (meaning I still pay for it)

TQ was a great game... the skill tree and the possibility to mix any 2 "trees" was so unique and cool, so much replayability... the physics were cool, the items too, the graphics were extremelly good, even nowadays its graphics are great for the genre.

It was such a pity the developers didnt make it after that and had to close. Im really looking forward for Grim Dawn.
Actually, i could say im more excited about Grim Dawn than Diablo 3.

Looks like Grim Dawn will have a condensed skill set. 5 disciplines, but you can still select 2. This is most likely due to programming resources, but it's still somewhat disappointing. Didn't TQ have 8 or so disciplines?

yeah...they were like 8 and the expansion added 1 more i think

anyway 5... and you are able to combine 2? its more options than d3 has for sure...

Considering the disciplines: a,b,c,d,e

possibilities:

1) full a
2) full b
3) full c
4) full d
5) full e
6) ab
7) ac
8) ad
9) ae
10) bc
11) bd
12) be
13) cd
14) ce
15) de

makes for 15 different types of characters... and if you consider the possibility (TQ had it) of different builds inside each discipline, then its huge with even 5 disciplines

I think by "DRM free at a low price" they mean the low price of 18$.

Right,"Digital download of finished game for PC, DRM free at a low price for your early support. " means you get a copy of the game.

They mean you get it for less than what it will sell for on Steam when it is released.

I've had my eye on this game since I first heard about it a year or so back. I think I'll kick $18 their way. I don't think I made it even all the way through the first Act/section of TQ. I might have to load it back up and give it a shot.

Pretty sure they are right. Other games that I have supported on Kickstarter (Wasteland 2 among them) are going for the same deal. Support now and get the game as your prize for supporting the development.

Of course, if the game never comes out, you are taking a risk. Though not in this case I think.

Just seems odd that they would say "low price" when all the other levels basically say "you get the game".

They clarified on the KS page that they worded it poorly and KS doesn't allow them to edit. It's $18 = digital dl of game; they also mentioned the game is going to be around $20-25 on release.

That's also assuming the order you pick classes doesn't matter, which IIRC it did in TQ. So if an AB is different than a BA that adds another 10.

Seems like a bad idea to be trying this now, Titan Quest came out before there was ever even a hint of another Diablo, and this will be competing with other low budget spin offs like Torchlight 2 for the small userbase that either can't afford or simply doesn't want Diablo 3 for whatever reason.

I also remember Titan Quest being full of bugs and memory leaks, as well as heavy end game slowdown, and the Iron Lore lead making a complete ass of himself after the studio got shut down, whining like a little bitch and blaming everything on piracy instead of owning up to the fact that their game just wasn't very polished.

I'm probably in the minority though.
