Grocery shopping: Do you buy brand names or generic?

Store brand = Depends on the product and the store.

Depends: always brand name. Never generic.

I doubt I would want to take a chance with leaks running down my legs on the generic disposable adult diapers, too.

Some generic store brands are superior to name brands. But usually for food or drink items I often won't buy store generics.

But for stuff like cleaning supplies or other non food items, I might be more apt to buy it. Why pay retail price for Windex, when I can buy the generic that works just like it for a buck?

Usually I try the cheapest one first (not necessarily the store-brand ones) then I move up from there. It's a bit of a compromise with things like milk because I've seen cheap brand bottles of milk and other easily perishable items spoil a week or more before the use by date - once the day after it had been packed.

i buy a lot of store brand stuff because Publix is awesome, but there are some things that I just always get name brand of because i prefer them.

Publix's store brand tends to be pretty good overall. In most cases, I consider the name brand price premium as me donating to their bloated advertising department only.

i buy namebrand TP.

I always buy generic foil (both regular and heavy duty) and kitchen trashbags.

Target brand is very very good. All storebrands are not equal.

Target diapers are also fantastic.

If you have access to Costco, try Kirkland TP, it is really good. Totally agree on the trash bags, but haven't had any problems with Kroger brand heavy-duty foil.

I wish I had a Costco nearby. Sam's is closer and their trashbags (which I suppose might be considered generic) are what I get because they are generally pretty good.

I'll give generic foil another shot and make sure I pick up the right thing.

I've used Walmart trash bags and now using Costco ones. Both have been fine

I have no problem with store brands except for Oreos. There is only one chocolate sandwich cookie.

if there's a significant price difference, I'll at least try the generic.

for some stuff, I can't notice a difference (artificial sweetener, cleaning products, and flour/rice/sugar/salt come to mind)
