You're calling it a "stupid hick town" but the only stupid I see is you, OP.

1. You exited the vehicle. That causes most officers to have an adrenaline dump, because people that exit tend to a) flee or b) pull a gun and start shooting. Stay in your vehicle, hands on steering wheel, don't make sudden movements, and follow officer's instructions.
2. You make excuses for breaking the law and make it seem like it's not your fault. Too bad. It is your responsibility and it's a STATE regulation, so has nothing to do with you being in a "hick town". You'll be pulled over anywhere for expired registration.
3. Your communication skills suck. There is no reason to be confrontational, especially not with an officer who is doing her duty.
4. You're prejudiced. Prejudiced against small town folk with no good reason "stupid hick town" and prejudiced against female officers who "look" a certain way. Go home and rethink your life.

you know guys, there were a few here that understood why i posted. i mentioned it only like 3 times but still... this isnt the first time this has happened- people here at AT simply read the subject line or the op and then dart to the end of the thread and post the most ignorant negative drivel they can come up with. this has been going on for years, but it has got a lot worse lately. i think the median age of members here is dropping.

now, i can deal with the 12yo know it alls, but the fact that i have received an infraction AND subsequent warnings is why i am leaving. there are other forums that dont have a problem with people speaking naturally, or being politically incorrect, and they understand what 'figure of speech' is. i know none of you will miss me. now please post 100 more replies about how you wont miss me, because i dont know if you will miss me or not.

Oh boo fucking hoo. What you really want is to go to a forum where nobody will tell you what they really think, lest you return the favor. I don't care about the PC stuff, or the grammatical stuff, and I read your OP in its entirety. Any forum that doesn't lay into you for starting a thread like this one is not a forum worth being a member of IMO.

I read the whole post, and my opinion of you just got worse and worse as I kept reading. And no, it is not because I'm 12 and you are a super mature adult who can't even pay to have their car registered even though daddy pays lots of taxes.

That said, I don't know why we are required by law to register cars in the first place.

I think she was really nice for just giving you a citation... in Calif if your registration expired for a few months the CHP/Police have the right to tow your car - then you have to pay for towing/storage fees in addition to the citation.

It's essentially a property tax that helps pay for the infrastructure that supports that property (roads, bridges, etc), not just to keep your name in a database. It's like stealing gas from a pump that doesn't require pre-paying.

Interesting how the prices vary so much from state to state, mine is now $53/yr, (average mid-sized sedan), it jumped up from $25 2yrs ago, the state is so broke (FL,where else) they raised the rates on everything. Last week the local cops actually rented a bucket-truck to hand out seat-belt violations and speeding tickets!. I always wear mine anyway, if you don't and get into a head-on collision your face will be planted right on top of the airbag when it deploys, not a good thing..
