there are other forums that dont have a problem with people speaking naturally, or being politically incorrect, and they understand what 'figure of speech' is.

I concur. If ATOT's had panties (and some likely do) they would be in bunches right now. I actually like most people here, including the OP, but am not sure what that says about me.

where the hell is there a state where registration is a $175 ticket. in california that is one of the most expensive tickets. one time when i couldnt find my registration i got a ticket that was over $1000 (it was registered so i only had to pay a $50 "fix-it" in the end though)

When he said he was going to leave the forums, I honestly thought this was just a parody of AMDhunter's AIDS needle and farewell threads.

I suggets you double check your state law and any state you travel through. It certainly is in my state. If your told to stay in the car and you refuse, you'll end up in the back of another car. It's a safety issue. If you want to check the headlight, say so and you won't be refused by any cop worth a damn. Cops don't like people jumping out of cars. Take a look at the numerous shooting after people jump out of a car firing. It's just not a wise idea.

Think of it another way. You stop, turn the car off, put your hands on the wheel, and turn on the interior light if it's night time. Your going to make the cops day as no one does this. You polite and don't argue assuming your not being railroaded. Or, you jump out of the car and are an ass the whole time. Who do you thinks getting a warning and who's getting a ticket?

There is a bigger rule that says something along the lines of: you must obey lawful and reasonable commands from an officer of the law. Just about any court, I think, will find it reasonable and lawful for an officer to command you to remain in your vehicle during a stop.

In Illinois it reads:

(625 ILCS 5/11-203) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 11-203)
Sec. 11-203. Obedience to police officers. No person shall wilfully fail or refuse to comply with any lawful order or direction of any police officer, fireman, or school crossing guard invested by law with authority to direct, control, or regulate traffic. Any person convicted of violating this Section is guilty of a petty offense and shall be subject to a mandatory fine of $150.

I imagine many are states are the same.

I have not been pulled over in a long time, do they regularly say to stay in the vehicle? I don't remember them telling me. But either way, I am not suggesting to disobey the police. However there is nothing stopping you from getting out of the car before the policeman talks to you.

From my story about getting out, i was a on a busy main road and I flipped my turn signal on and went into the first parking lot about .5 miles after getting "pulled over" so the cop did appreciate that i got him out of harms way in that regard.

Is there anything stopping you legally from exiting the vehicle before the officer approaches? No, there is not (at least in Illinois, check your local laws). However, being a cop, it raises a ton of safety concerns for us when people decide to hop out before we approach. Weekly I see video after video of offenders getting out of a vehicle and open fire on an officer that was pulling them over for some minor traffic violation. It is always in the back of our minds when someone pops out without being told to first. You more then likely will get a very angry officer if you decide to do it because of that. Consider it polite behavior to not get out.

They can also stay in the vehicle and wait till the officer is near then open fire. It's a no win situation for officers I'm afraid. :/

I've always enjoyed the 'I'm leaving the forum' posts. It's as if we're supposed to beg a complete stranger to stick around and continue posting nonsense...

i would ask for my account to be deleted, but i know i would have to do really bad things before that would happen so whatever i suppose. astalavista, anandtech! used to be fun.

Wow. I don't think I've ever seen someone own themselves so hard they fired themselves from the forum. Going to be hard to top this one this year, but I'm sure plenty of people will try.

Way to throw a pity party.

I read the whole post, and my opinion of you just got worse and worse as I kept reading. And no, it is not because I'm 12 and you are a super mature adult who can't even pay to have their car registered even though daddy pays lots of taxes.

That said, I don't know why we are required by law to register cars in the first place.
register when you buy, inform them (deregister) when you sell, i can understand that. i dont fully agree with why the govt needs to know what car i drive but i accept it.

however, given those two rules i do NOT know why i have to keep re-registering ever year or every other year. that cant serve any functional purpose. just a cash grab and annoyance.

Your type seems to think you have a right to drive a vehicle on my roadways...
Driving is a privilege that can be revoked...it's NOT a right.

Registering and licensing vehicles serves several purposes...it allows the gubmint to know who owns a vehicle in the case of a hit & run accident and provides some monies to help fund roadways. Plus, if they don't know who owns a car...how can you report it stolen and expect them to find it?

It should be a conditional right. I wrote this before, and didn't get any takers. There needs to be a word that bridges the concepts of full rights which can't be revoked by humans, and privileges that can be revoked for any reason. America is large, with spread out population centers, making automobiles virtually a necessity. As long as competency and safety is accounted for, driving should be considered a right that can't be revoked excepting the previous concerns.

town of what, 5000? i just moved here due to financial ruin, and this chick obviously had been watching me before because she knew where i lived.

she was sitting at the park doing nothing, because nothing ever happens here. she pulls out as i pass and follows me. as soon as i pull into my driveway she flicks on her lights.

i get out with my groceries and she FREAKS OUT. "GET BACK IN YOUR CAR AND SIT DOWN!"

I said "yes this is my car" thinking she asked if i owned the vehicle. she was obviously all riled up and hard to understand.

"SIT IN YOUR CAR NOW!"

she comes up and says "I know you live here. Do you know your registration is expired? "

"yes i do"

"Why is it expired?"

"i dont have any money. thats why im living here in the middle of nowhere. I drive 1 mile to the grocery store and back, you seen me, you know that"

"i know, but youre still driving. I am going to write you a citation and you can fight it in court. Whats the address of this place?" i tell her, then she looks over at the mailbox. "ok" she says.

she goes to her car, comes back with a $175 ticket.

"are you kidding me" i say

"this is what its for blah blah blah" she rambles

"you realize i cant pay that either, right?"

"well youll have to get your registration done and show the judge then, they might let you off the ticket"

"jones is your name?" i ask (fake name im using for here of course)

"yes"

"first name?"

"deputy jones" she smirks

i just half smiled and gave her the "ok, asshole" look and she left. i think from now on when i drive by her im going to flip her off. fucking moron. my family has been in this town over 50 years and pay some of the highest taxes there are here because we own lakefront property. she just pissed me off and i doubt she realizes how many people we know in this town....

Title changed. Just as we do not allow slurs concerning gay males, we also don't allow them about females.

Atot's usual stick up the ass reaction to people complaining about tickets annoys the hell out of me. The idea that the government just gets to steal our money because untrained monkeys, who probably flunked out of high school, arbitrarily decide what laws to enforce usually sticks in my craw. Not this time though, I'm enjoying every post

well if she isnt she was just pissed i didnt ask her out then. i love lesbians more then anyone, but this one was a flowing bitch.

i dont really need all the righteous folk telling me how awful i am because i dont have current registration on a truck that barely ever gets drivin in a town where nobody is. but im not surprised at the responses either.

So... you're broke.

You continue to make bad (and illegal) choices.

You seem to have an extremely large vocabulary to describe females you don't like, suggesting that this is a fairly common event for you.

But you can afford internet.

+1.

or i could just drive because what is the fucking difference? its just registration renewal that is a scam in the first place and everyone knows it. these last few months i havent had it, i have been trailed by state and local police and none of them pulled me over. they hang on my bumper, run my plates, and then back off and leave me alone.

And how do you know that they ran your plates.

Did they stop you and issue you a warning?

If so, they were doing you a favor and you ignored them. That is disrespect compounded.

not that i know of, because you can park your car and not drive it. if you have a garage and keep it there, there is no law that says just because a title is in your name means you have to register it for driving.
Called: surrender the plates

Plates == registration
