Why the hell is "Lego" "Lego's" in America?!

It's Lego Land not Lego's Land, you get a Lego Set not a Lego's Set.

Seriously about 95% of your posts is trolling the way things are in the US. Is there not a tech forum in the UK you can frequent, so you're so obviously clueless about what goes on here?

OP is an idiot. A hobby is a hobby. When you become obsessed with anything (trains, legos, video games, movies, sports teams) then it becomes a problem.

Someone playing legos with their kid >>>>>>>>> any idiot pissed off that so-and-so is injured for the season or screaming obscenities at a referee.

Sorry some stuff just irritates me. I'm quite particular with language.

I'm not clueless, I spent a while in America, I find this forum more interesting because I notice idiosyncrasies in our language that I wouldn't notice elsewhere, also that post wasn't trolling.

Damn right. My 8 and almost 5 year old boys are getting Kinect, Legos, trains, and a chemistry set for Christmas. You better believe I'm playing with them.

You know what's really manly IMO? Being there and actually raising your own damn kids 24/7/365, not cheating on your SO, paying the bills on time every month, working hard, self-improvement, taking time to relax doing whatever hobby you choose, staying physically fit, and earning the respect of your peers.
Lego's for everybody here this xmas. Also - a copy of Battleship (the old skool non-electronic one) for my wife... er... kids. Also a copy of Axis & Allies 1942 for me... er... kids. My oldest son will be getting a fishing rod as well. And likely a couple of tennis rackets will be under the tree for me and my wife as well.

Hey op... got a problem with that?

“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”
― C.S. Lewis

replace "grown up" with "manly" then /thread

Got a wooden Thomas Train set for the 2 yr old grandson.
Way to big for one person to properly play with it without "proper training" :whiste:

already planning for the 8x8 plywood base setup in a few years. Will rig that on pulleys to store up against the garage ceiling.

I scored one of the Imaginarium Central City tables off of Ebay via Toy's R Us for $85 shipped to my door.

It looks like this....(not my kid)

My 3 year old daughter has been asking for trains for Christmas for almost 2 months now. I don't get it. But it's been consistent, and without hesitation. So Santa will oblige. I have a son due in February so in a month or two when big sister grows tired of it, I'll store it away and it'll be his to play with in a few years.

I'm sure Santa will have some trial runs getting things put together and testing the rails.

because the plural of lego is legos.

I disagree. It's a company name, it's like saying "I've got loads of Sonys" rather than "Loads of Sony Stuff" or saying "I like using Apple's" Rather than "I like using Apple products".

The plural of Lego is Lego, like the Plural of Jack Daniels is Jack Daniels.

"I've got a lot of Lego." Or "I play with a lot of Lego Blocks."

You could put 's on the end of Lego if you were referring to something that the company Lego owns, such as "That's Lego's Head Quarters"

trains, legos, papercraft, kid toys, etc... Grow the fuck up, grow a pair, grow some hair on said pair and reclaim your man card. The pussification of the american male is disgustingly visible in these retards. Perhaps I'm overeacting a little, what say you?

Oh yeah? Why are you on a tech forum and not in the garage modding your car? You should be above this.

My almost 5 year old can now construct multi-level and interconnecting Thomas tracks. I'm sure the hours I spent with him playing will pay dividends like this well into adulthood.

All the things the OP listed improve creative thinking to enjoy. I'm 41 and play with all that stuff.

You assume that kids and adults play with their toys the same way.

Kids fly Star Wars figures around the house, ram them in their pockets, rip the arms off, etc. Adults collect them and keep them nice.

Kids set up train sets, run them fast, wreck them, etc. Adults spend hours being meticulous.

Not the same at all.

You are correct in this. However, it has been commonly adopted to call Lego blocks simply by their name - Legos. It is similar how people call a tissue a Kleenex, even though Kleenex is a brand, or how we call adhesive bandages a Band-Aid, even though that is a trade name.

We say things like "That museum has six Picassos on display." Why? Because everyone knows the context. We don't need to say "They have six Picasso paintings on display" because everyone knows what we mean. Lego is known for their building blocks. We call them Legos because of these very same reasons.

EDIT: We would say "loads of Sony's" because Sony isn't known for a particular product. We do say "he has two playstations" instead of "two playstation gaming consoles."

I worked hard to have the time and money to enjoy what I consider to be the finer things in life.

If I want to drink a nice scotch and build a robot out of plastic blocks, thats my own damn business.
