Grrr?I think my p/s is crapping out.

Lately when I turn the power on, the power lights come on, the case fans & cpu fan start running but nothing else comes on. I then manually turn the p/s off & on at the switch and the PC boots right up without incident. This started about a month after I upgraded from a FX-55@2.9 to a Opty 165@2.83. P/s in question is a ePower EP-450XP-P2B that's only 2-3 years old.

Does this sound like a p/s dying?

It is possible. I'm not sure, but I think your PSU ranks in the Tier 4 category, which is just above the "Not Recommended" section. This could explain why your having your problems. All PSU's degrade over time and thus become less efficient than before. This can slowly over time create issue/problems with your system if your pushing your PSU pretty hard, which seems to be your situation. If you want to try something, you could put your Opty back to stock settings and see if your results are different. This reduced drain on your PSU could tell you if it's the PSU. I'm betting that it could very well be. There are other factors that play into this, but I'd at least try the stock settings on your Opty.

What you mean my p/s isn't up to running an Opty, 3 h/d's, 3 case fans, 2 optic drives and a 7800GT?!.....jk

Ok...lowered my Opty to stock clock setting and still having the same issue.

Any other suggestions?

Okay, double check all of you front panel connections on your mobo. Maybe you have a loose/intermittant connection there, which would explain the random starting problems. The other possibility is that you could have an issue inside of the PSU like maybe a power switch problem. I'm thinking that your not stressing the PSU too much, but might've stress it since you put the OPTY into the system a while back. Not sure, but that would be my guess. Do you have another PSU lying around that you could test this theory? Or you could get a new PSU locally and test that way. And if it doesn't change anything, you could return the PSU. I'd get a quality PSU, if you go and get one locally.

Lately, the problem is no longer intermittent. The PC will now only start when I toggle the p/s power button first. Yeah??I wish I had a back-up p/s to swap it out with, but I don?t. But, I will check all the connections to the m/b. You?re probably right; it?s the p/s slowly dying on me. I guess I should be thankful it didn?t just crap out on me completely.
