I've been sick and had to abandon a huge amount of incomplete tasks, which manifested as several open tasks on my computer. There were multiple unsaved blocks of text pasted into instances of Notepad, multiple open browsers, etc.
Years ago, something flipped at Microsoft and they suddenly think it's OK to restart a computer for updates even if there are running tasks. This happened last night.
Rage.

-Having updates installed automatically WILL restart your computer without your permission if you leave it on long enough. THIS IS A FACT (unless you edit the registry or use gpedit.msc [which isn't available in any "Home" version of Windows])
-I said repeatedly that I *want* updates to be installed automatically (I have a good reason)
-I said "Install my updates automatically, plz."
-I did not say "Install my updates automatically and restart my computer when you feel like it."
[edit2]
Why do people keep saying I claimed to be an "IT expert?" I've never managed a corporate network. I simply help people solve problems.
When did I say I was an IT expert? For some reason...it's STILL being implied that I said that...over and over and over.
-For that last few years, Microsoft will restart your PC without permission if you have automatic update installation enabled (ref)
-Though it was done without any indication to end users, I was already aware of this change after observing it happen a few times in the past
-I have reasons to run Windows installations that are as-close-to-vanilla-as-possible (ie: "Recommended" setting of "Install updates automatically").
-Due to unfortunate medical circumstances, I was abruptly interrupted and unable to complete my tasks
-My misfortune caused an anticipated / expected problem
-I'm upset that this behavior changed over the years, because I otherwise wouldn't have had this problem
Others implied:
-I didn't know how to switch to update notifications (WRONG)
-I claimed to be some kind of IT pro (WRONG)
-I was using a work computer (WRONG)
-I didn't know it would restart (WRONG)
-I thought it was a good idea to have unsaved work open (WRONG)
