lol, 2 biased nvidia benchmarks. I always get a kick out of reviews like this.

I'm not saying they aren't valid but most people on here assume things like this will happen.

why not benchmark Far cry 2 and hawx 2 aswell while they are at it

I was too lazy to link all the benchmarks. Those were the first ones i saw

I'm fairly certain these games always do better on nVidia's hardware, but nice benching nonetheless. Thats my resolution too, so these are the numbers that most benefit me.

Shows the 560 ahead, nice going... but a few things that make it invalid to me.

1. The 6970 although a Asus, isn't the DirectCU version unlike the 560 (better chance of overclocking further).

2. The GTX560 is way overclocked compared to the 6970 which has a mere 10Mhz. (Oops!)

No doubt the 560 is a good chip, so there is no need for the results to be swayed like this.

Have two similar top versions overclocked to the max to make it fair, and then we'll see the proper difference.

Edit : Didn't see the games, they always performed best on nVIDIA. Looking at the linked review, it does seem to correlate most of the games, although they trade blows sometimes.

But he didn't even bother to overclock the 6970 further? According to Asus's website that is their default overclock speed.

Maybe, but not listed on their site just yet. I would have thought they would use it on as many of their cards as possible. All that's different with the cooler from reference is it's got an aluminum shroud.

at 1680x1050 gtx 560 ti is great, especially with such a massive OC. 6900 series (and gtx 570/580 for that matter) are more useful at higher resolutions. I think that the only real loser right now is gtx 570 because people at lower res are going to snag a gtx 560 while people at higher res will lean towards 6900 series or gtx 580. I wouldn't be surprised to see 570 start to drop in price going forwards.

That's the problem... Can't really find much information on what they consume when overclocked.

Stock, it's a wash at idle both within a watt of one another... load the 6970 uses more. (Taken from AnandTech review).

Maybe the 560Ti comes closer to the same wattage as the 6970 overclocked, remembering that it is way more overclocked.

The 560Ti is quieter at stock, maybe about the same as stock 6970 when overclocked or a little louder, all speculation.

Who buys a 6970 to game at 1680x1050? How is that even a relevant way of comparing cards?

Lets see the 1920x1200, a resolution which anyone looking to spend around $300 on a graphics card will probably be gaming at. I have 2048x1152 resolution myself.

Thats pretty much what I thought. Seems a waste to go to the trouble of benching those two cards at those settings.

For one, NV just performs better at lower resolutions than comparable AMD cards. AMD starts to do better the higher the resolution.

That's also one of the reasons why the first piece of information (or question) in an advice thread should be/often is "What resolution will you play at?".

Its a better buy but you could probably go a lot cheaper for 16x10.

1680x1050 favors the 560 it looks like, at higher resolutions. 1080P and up = 6950.

It really depends on what type of monitor the person is planning to use really.

At 16x10 you should be buying a 6850 or 460.

Oh well, someone should bench a 6850 overclocked 25% and see how that compares to a stock 560.

Dirt 2 is a biased NVIDIA benchmark.
