At least, that's how it seemed with VC / SA and the Playsatan 2.

Anyway, I'm not buying another computer just to play it, especially one that you can't upgrade or do other things on, and have to buy a specific & separate kb/mouse for. Not to mention funding the most evil corporation which has ever existed... I'll just wait for the PC port and hope it doesn't suck ass like the previous ones.

I don't see how an exclusivity contract can exist to release the game on consoles only. It's on two competing consoles. Why would one of the manufactures make some random deal to make sure it's not released on PC, but allow it to be on a competitors console.

Xbox versions of GTA3, VC, and SA all sucked compared to the PC versions. What's with that lame mini-gun with the Xbox versions?
I'll never buy another gaming console, or anymore console games.
Either it's a PC version, or they won't get my money.

After playing GTA on the PS2, then Xbox, then PC...I can honestly say that I found the PC version far behind in enjoyment levels (not because of repetitiveness, but because of the controls). I enjoy PC games (I have a high-end PC), but I find shooters to be superior on the consoles (for my needs).

Anyways, so far the single player of GTA4 is fantastic, although the game, so far, doesn't quite match SA in the fun to be had in freely exploring the virtual world (mainly because you don't have small towns anymore).

Any of you guys playing this on consoles want to comment on the game's graphic quality? When the game does come on the PC, do you think it will be a breeze to run on current mid-range parts? I know, impossible to comment on an unreleased port but any guesstimates by sampling the visuals?

I may have to reinstall San Andreas. I quit after getting frustrated with the plane mission. I couldn't get past it and couldn't get any other missions.

Is there a mod that allows a player to skip that mission?

The one in Las Venturas?

Edit your config file (handling.cfg) to give your dodo more thrust and make it lighter. Then you will be able to catch up with the plane.

Take a look at reviews and HD trailers. My guess is that you'll need top of the line hardware (8800GT 512mb or better, 4gb ram, dual core cpu)

You have a REALLY old PC? Or just a really old keyboard? Kind of curious, as it may not be mainstream yet, but I was under the impression that USB was kind of common, and that's what the PS3 uses for keyboards and mouse support. Doesn't even require a bunch of special drivers for your Linux install so you can do your word processing, or web browsing, or set up you folding or whatever you want to do. If you want to use it for a lot of desktop style aps though you need to upgrade the HDD, takes one of those form factors that NewEgg only has like 100 different types of in stock though. Kind of sucks you are stuck to the lowly 1920x1080 resolution though, no support for 30" monitors at their native res.

On second thought, what are you talking about? For a second I thought you were talking about the PS3, but you pretty much listed off most of the reasons why people like the PS3 over the 360 in the geek sector.

Funny I had the same experience. I was really enjoying the game up until I had to do that silly flight lesson mission. I can manage to land planes in flight sim with ILS but for the life of me I could not manage to get the plane in San Andreas through those stupid rings.

Here's the site I got the mod from:

http://www.sa-mp.com/

It has a downgrader on there too, since you have to be at version 1.0. I was at 1.01 from the patch, the re-released dvds after the hot coffee are 2.0 and need to be downgraded too.

Looks like they gave up!

Kinda sad though, I had been playing a little here and there, and enjoyed it.

Oh well.

I couldn't get the SA mp to work. my guy just kept falling from the sky and dying. I didn't really try too hard because no one was really playing anyways.

How can a true gamer put up with something called "auto-aim".

I really hope they don't drag their feet on the 360 -> PC port...

actually keyboard and mouse has always made the game too easy and sort of weird in gameplay, anyways , i am waiting for the pc version but i probably play it with the controller.

Got one of these for my PS3. When it comes in, I'll be all over the PS3 games. I'll rent GTA 4 before I buy it. I never was a fan but I did play the original 2 + vice city. Watched friends play SA and wasn't really impressed. Maybe GTA 4 can make me a believer.

hehe who ISNT getting it for the PC??

I'm not. I got it on the 360. Bigger screen, bigger, louder sound system, more comfy chair, easy "put disk in and play" operation - plus, I'm playing it now while you all are sitting around drooling!

I have a source within a company that tells me the PC version will be completely re-worked and expanding on the engine. You'll see great draw distance, new shaders and a lot of other things.

Ask him when it'll be out.

That thing is awesome, looks like they executed it really well. Both on the hardware and software side.

- You can hook up your computer to the same screen
- You can hook up your computer to the same sound system
- You can be sitting in the same chair
- If you get a crack, you don't even need to have the disk in to play

That said, I'm already getting it for the PS3 (which is hooked up to the same sound system/TV as my primary computer)

Also, auto-aim ruins the gaming experience by spoiling players that don't have any skill, thereby never allowing them to develop as better gamers. It's a lot more fun to frag someone with your own abilities than to rely on a crutch like auto-aim. How about an auto-jump button in Mario? Would that be fun? Letting the computer play your game for you is not my idea of fun.

I wish they'd let us just aim with the damn controller. Auto-aim sucks. How about allowing it as an option? The people who like to aim and actually play the game can leave the auto-aim off. The people who don't want to aim (for any reason, either laziness, lack of skill, apathy, etc.) can turn on the option.

It's not as easy to setup resolutions for my TV. Will GTA4 on PC support my required custom resoltion of 1693x960 to avoid massive overscan? (I have a rear-projection CRT HDTV) Will GTA4 put out a DD audio stream in real time? (My reciever doesn't have 6 analog inputs, only stereo or digital) Will I put up with moving my 40lb tower back and forth from my bedroom to my living room? Or who's going to pay for another $1000 gaming machine to play it on?

Lucky you to have a 50"+ screen in your computer room. My Xbox360 is connected to a 52" HDTV, my computer to a 20" LCD about 20-25' away in another room.

Hmm. I don't know about the PS3, but on the 360 pulling the left trigger half-way allows free aim. The game even teaches you this.

I'm wondering how the controls will be for the PC version.
Are the other GTA games for the PC good, or are they clunky (made for a console) like Ultimate Alliance?

I've never played any of the GTA games on a console, but the controls for the PC version have been fine for me, using a M&K, too.

It took me a little while to get the controls for the heli's and bikes in a way that I was comfortable with, but afterwards, they were great. Shooting and driving and such were never a problem.

It's the same on the PS3.
