GTA 4 for PC ?!

I have to admit I found myself reading all of the new GTA4 previews despite me not owning a PS3 or XBOX360.

Now I know that all GTAs have been ported to PC (GTA and GTA2 were on PC first) and all ran better on the PC.
But how long will we have to wait after April 29th to get our GTA4?
Here is hope that Rockstar pulls a Bioware and does it relatively quick.
Can't wait to carjack with higher resolution, better framerate, less texture pop-ins than the console versions.
With GTA4, the 512MB ram of the consoles are at their limit already...

They never announce a PC version but they always release a PC version. I think it takes six months but maybe sooner because of the delays.

i remember gta: sa was released for ps2 in october and then pc and xbox in june on the following year. lets hope that they do it much quicker this time but it likely they wont since they probably have contracts with msft and sony since they want to sell as many console copies before people can get it for pc, which blows.

however, i too have been following it pretty intensely even though i dont own either console

I'm 100% certain that GTA4 will come to PC within a year of its release. If you're lucky it may onyl be 3-6 months

GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas came out on consoles in October, followed by a PC release in May (for the first two games) and June (San Andreas). So, December?

Unless they have contractual obligations this generation that I haven't heard of, it sounds like it should be ready by then. I remember reading some articles last year that GTA4 could have made it's original October 2007 release date but they delayed it to work on the PS3 version so they could release them both simultaneously. Since the Xbox 360 version was already shaping up well and porting Xbox 360 -> PC is supposed to be rather easy, I am pretty sure GTA4 will be on PCs in time for the Holidays.

The PC versions, mainly due to the kb/mouse combo, have always been far superior.

How can a true gamer put up with something called "auto-aim".

I really hope they don't drag their feet on the 360 -> PC port...

I've played the last three games on the PC and played VC once on a PS2.

Once was WAY more than enough. I think I may skip GTAIV until the PC version comes out.

Those games suck. They would need to seriously expand the gameplay to get me interested.

For the fun of driving free I would much rather play TD:U. For a expansive, complex world with lots of different things to do, I'd prefer STALKER or Oblivion.

Grand Theft Auto is NOT a good hybrid of those genres. I'll admit blasting kneecaps was fun, and gibbing pedestrians with rockets is pretty cool too, but that gets old the second time you do it.

I would expect it to come out on PC within 9 months of it's release. It wouldn't shock me that there is some form of contract agreement which lists a minimum time before it hits the shelves for PC just so that the game gets purchases on consoles first.

Im just hoping GTA4 is at least on par with GTA:San Andreas. SA, IMO, is the best of the bunch. PC version of SA was just so much better than the consoles. GTA3 and VC, while great, would not let you progress unless you did all the missions. At least in SA you didnt have to do every single mission to move on. I remember years ago getting stuck on that freaking remote helicopter mission and the construction workers. Couldnt move forward til you passed that mission. Dont remember if it was GTA3 or VC but it sucked.

It was VC, and it gave me a some trouble. Now that mission is a breeze.

Considering the feedback over the years, I am sure there will be a main line of missions to progress the story along with many side missions like SA in GTA IV.

When I was nostalgic for Vice City and my PS2 disc broke I got it for PC and I didn't like it as much, the shooting was perfect and controlling tommy was easier (if not incredibly weird for the animations) but driving was pretty horrible. I much rather be aiming with the thumbstick and having auto-aim than dealing with the horrible digital driver controls. GTA is not even a pure shooter, shooting is just part of the experience, I don't need pixel perfect precision where auto-aim does the same thing, it's not like it's a dedicated shooter.

I however will pickup the 360 version on release. I am simply to hyped to wait another 6 months for the PC version.

Played SA for the first time last night on PC. The first GTA since the top down versions a decade ago. It was pretty good, but I found that Driving could use some fine tuning. I kinda got lost on the Tagging Mission, didn't pay enough attention to the instructions I suppose. Stole a car in frustration, got into a police chase, car blew up, and when released from the Hospital I had no idea where I was or how to get back to the Hood. Drove all over the place, stole 3 or 4 different cars/trucks as the old ones became too beat up, thought about stealing a Tractor too

Unfortunately I played 2-3 hours without Saving, but at least I figured a few things out.

I am replaying SA right now and certain situations I had to use a gamepad but for the most part the keyboard/mouse has been better. Though I have not unlocked the airports yet so that may change. Zero's second mission flying the RC plane was impossible to do until I hooked up my gamepad.
