The game will forever be plagued by griefing and trolling. Rockstar totally screwed up on the online portion.

Even when you go passive and you use the phone people just run you over.

I feared this would happen. The reviews stated, well I think at least one of them that online was a lot of fun...yeah maybe with a controlled group.

Didn't bought it for the online tbh, single player is the way to go for me. I have 3-soon-4 friends that have the game and maybe we'll try some online here and there but it'll certainly not be my main way to play GTA5...

You would have to lock it down somehow. I did try some online and it was just bad. Not even the lag and such but the way it was setup seemed tailored for random mindless destruction and ruining everyone else's gameplay.

This was my initial fear (and you can find the post I made about it in this thread when GTA Online was announced). I was really hoping it wasn't a bunch of randoms, because randoms are not what I want to play with.

I have not made a crew or joined one so I don't know if you can host a server and lock it to your crew only or something like that. I don't think I will spend too much time experimenting with it. Lots of other games to be played.

It sounds like things in the online game will smooth out after a few weeks when they've figured out server issues and the trolls and griefers are relegated to only playing with each other, but they definitely dropped the ball in the rollout of online. Hell, I'm not even going to install the online patch until I can get a guarantee that it won't corrupt my save file; I'm not giving up 40 hours of progress just to sit in a queue for an online experience which doesn't currently work.

Fortunately, the single player is great enough that even if the online never pans out and I never play it, I'll still be incredibly satisfied with the game. I don't expect compelling online from GTA in the same way I don't expect compelling singleplayer from Battlefield. That's not its forte.

Yeah, I've pretty much finished up the game (I am at like >70% on my save) and only have a few ?s left that I can see. The online was pretty much what would have kept me playing GTA, but I haven't even tried it. BF4 beta came out yesterday, and that is what is occupying my free time.

If anyone is looking for a partner to play with on the 360, I'll be playing pretty much all night in about a half hour or so; gamertag Hak Shadow. Online is freaking awesome with other good people; pub not so much.

Starting to get the hang of it, but man I wish I could use a KB/mouse; don't know how these kids are nailing me from across the screen with thumb-sticks.

Nobody seems to be racing in pubs, just deathmatch and griefing, but at least you get $800 and some experience for a deathmatch even if you just die and don't get any kills (need to practice my guns).

Met a cool player tonight, and we ranked up to 12 or so, by doing missions. Get someone with a mic to play with and online is fun.

But... he went to go get something to eat, and I went into Ammunation which is a 'safe' spot to loiter... until I got killed in there. WTF? I respawned and the guy that killed me was coming toward me in a car outside... wasted him.

I was talking all this shit "don't know how you ganked me in Ammunation... but I got your ass!". Then I ran back into Ammunation to wait for friend mission invites, and the guy the behind the counter wasted me. Maybe because I had a wanted level or my gun out?!?

Fun though. So much better playing with someone with a mic on a mission. Think this may be one of my fav games if I can have more nights like this.

I think the stuff they make you pay money for is ridiculous. Passive mode that doesn't even protect you from being run over, and insurance are just a couple things I can think of off the top of my head. The other annoyance is you lose a % of your bank account every time you die. It is as if they designed it so people would be compelled to buy money for the game. It is very possible to go broke trying to do objectives that only pay $1k but cost you $5k per death.

The insurance is actually useful, but if you use it to get your car replaced, you have to pay to use it. For my car it was $450 to replace it.

The money lost when you are killed is horribly stupid though. Especially taking it out of the bank and NOT giving you any feedback about it like you get in single player. Especially with some of the dumber mechanics of the game, like when it takes 10 seconds to stand up if you fall or get knocked down... I've drowned because a knockdown sent me into the water, and I died before I could 'get up' underwater.

Ouch...that sounds rage inducing for sure. The mechanics of the single player game just don't seem to translate well online especially with the monetary system in place.

I already hated how long it takes to get up when knocked down.

I'll never play multi because I don't have a gold account.

I'm happy to say customizing cars, since last patch, seem to work pretty decently. Customizing the personal vehicle works--custom work saves properly. Custom work on stolen cars works decent; I've picked up some custom cars a few times from impound, though still not perfectly. I was in a mission with a car and it said I needed a 4 seater, so I left it and grabbed a 4 seater, but it never appeared anywhere else ever again and is now totally lost to me.

I'm having a hard time with some of the stunt jumps, especially the ones where its a ramp that says "prepare for lift off" and half of the jump is blocked by a fake car. I find the angle/placement of these really hard to hit. Do they do that on purpose?

I'm seriously about to give up trying online. Third day it's been out and still stuck on the very first race on waiting for other players.

I gave up on them after smashing up my car every time or being ejected.

Ugh really annoying when you switch characters and suddenly your in the middle of town carless. Your characters main car should always be right there when you switch to them.

Man I suck at this game man not making nearly as much $$$ as some of you guys. The Lester mission where you kill the jurors for the tobacco deal, and you invest in Debonair... I only got 80% return on investment. Sounds like a lot but its like ok so now I have 2 million with Michael. How the heck are some of you guys making what sounds like 50-100 million and even more per Lester mission?

Sounds like now we know the real reason online was delayed two weeks and it had nothing to do with getting people to learn the ropes of how to play. I think a lot was they knew it wasn't ready and I guarantee they have been working their asses off last two weeks to try and fix what is wrong. Also, by now all the main sites have already reviewed the game and given it the high scores.

Given that the dev cycle on this game was very long, it was very well funded, and expectations for sales were always high, I am surprised they didn't load test properly, and instead are finding the whole thing apparently unusable.
