Man I suck at this game man not making nearly as much $$$ as some of you guys. The Lester mission where you kill the jurors for the tobacco deal, and you invest in Debonair... I only got 80% return on investment. Sounds like a lot but its like ok so now I have 2 million with Michael. How the heck are some of you guys making what sounds like 50-100 million and even more per Lester mission?
You need to do the assassination missions after the official game is complete. Using the money from the final heist, then you magnify it in the stock market. It is too late for you to be a billionaire now, though that doesn't really matter, but I would save the remaining assassination missions.

I'm at 55% completion and only have like $100k for each character.

Sold my copy. Played through the storyline and then got bored. I have serious doubts about stangers getting together to achieve a singular goal. Cost me $15 to play the storyline and I got way more than my monies worth.

Agree with that. I couldn't get anyone to join me on the ls flats mission. It's still training as part of the online multiplayer and my buddy has been trying to connect and do the required race for over 30 min.

Yeah, you have to save all the assassination missions (except for the first, which is required for the story) for after you've completed the game. The final score nets you north of $25 million, and you can turn that into $1 billion very easily with the Lester missions. But don't get greedy. If a website says you can get around 48% ROI on a stock tip, don't push your luck and keep sleeping hoping for a bump; eventually the stock dumps back down to basically a zero ROI and you'll have to scrap your save and reload from before to get the same returns. It's frustrating and stupid. But whatever.

*SPOILERS FOLLOW*

Let's assume you came out of the last mission with $30 million to invest (per character). Here's your breakdown (remember to always save immediately prior to investing all your money and starting the Lester missions):

Multi-target assassination: Invest all (literally, every single dollar available) in Debonaire (DEB) before you start. Once you finish, let the stock hit ~80% and sell. Take the money you earned and invest ALL (again, literally every last dollar you have) in Redwood (RWC). After a day or two it will rebound to ~300% of your investment. This is your biggest ROI, so don't skip it. With this mission alone, you should be up to around $162 million.

The Vice Assassination: Invest all your money in Fruit (FRT) before the mission starts. After the mission, let Fruit hit 45% or so and sell. Save the game, then invest all your money in Facade (FAC). Facade should rebound after a couple days to the tune of ~30%. This should push you north of $300 million.

The Bus Assassination: Don't invest to begin with. Do the mission, and after it's completed invest all your money in Vapid (VAP). After a day or two, Vapid will rebound for a 100% ROI. Now you should be above $600 million.

The Construction Assassination: Invest all your money in Gold Coast (GCD) before starting. After the mission, wait for your returns to hit ~80% and sell. This will bring you above $1 billion.

Do not get greedy. I did on one, and I had to manually delete a save file to see above a 10% ROI on subsequent replays. And I did the multi-target one back when I only had about $100,000 to invest (and I completely skipped the second step which is far more lucrative), so even though it seemed like a lot at the time, after the endgame it was basically worthless (your properties will earn you more than that in a week). If you want to be crazy rich, this is the only legitimate option.

Try making money in Online... beginning to believe Rockstar is counting on people buying cash through micro-transactions by making in-game cash so hard to come by.

Get this - if you get killed in Deathmatch, money comes out of your bank... yep, you heard that right. So retarded. I'm level 15 now, and my stats show something like I've made $125,000 and have spent $70,000 on healthcare (death penalty).

Once in a blue moon you'll get a mission that pays $9,000, but 99% of them pay $2,000. If you buy the body armor (a necessity because the AI has 90%+ accuracy - way more deadly than single player) and three sets of ammo, that is almost $600 spent before the mission, and if you die in the mission, then you lose money to healthcare. So even if you do not die, the vast majority of missions will net you $1,400.

Now go look at all the million dollar cars (not to mention aircraft/etc), and the cheapest apartment is $80,000.

But... you also have to buy all your weapons too, which are unlocked as you level. Just unlocked the scope for the SMG - total for gun and scope - around $15,000 (+$113 for 60 rounds every time you want to buy some).

I bought a cheap garage for $25,000, the uzi and SMG with scope, and have $4,000 left in my account at level 15. Not very happy.

GTA5 SP, best launch ever. Smooth as silk, very few if any bugs, and was fun for a while.

This online shit? It's terrible right now. Every game I've joined takes years to load, and people just leave once they get killed with no punishment. This is now 3 days after initial launch. It's poorly designed, and they didn't learn from past games and their mistakes (seriously, player intro/tutorials had to get patched several times now for them to save correctly). My friend has left easily 40 games and he's not marked as a bad player; I think it's more of a verbal deterrent than an actual existing punishment system for leaving an active game.

I'm glad that they have an online mode, but honestly with the state it's in they should of waited another few months. It's dogshit right now. They just released a patch about an hour ago that lets me get online. I kinda bought the game for online, not the story, and ATM I don't see the fun in waiting to get in a lobby to see 6/8 have left. When you finally get in a full game, people quit once they hit something in a race, etc. They really really need to fix this or the game is done in my books. Whats the point of a lobby system when people use it then leave making a LTS 5v1 and punishing the other person by insinuating if he leaves "he'll be marked a bad player".

Edit: played some more. Good lord is this game fucking bad online. Races almost never end with the full amount, people freekilling constantly then just leaving, I'm amazed at how bad online is......I'd say its worse than GTA4 for me so far, because I can't even leave a game with griefers and when I do get griefed it actually sets me back.

double edit: my fucking lord this game is bad online. I cannot describe what a shit festerfuckingpool this game is. Just avoid it if you value your sanity and don't play with friends only.

Rinaun, just to be clear you are saying online is fun, right

I disagree about the sp launch--was not perfect. a few of the bugs are troublesome like garages, though it was overall pretty good, but I think some other games have been a bit smoother.

Sounds like online is a real shtfest. I think getting through missions with total strangers is always a challenge though. Far too many children and sick heads in the world. I bet with proper foresight a GOOD rating system could be setup to ensure you only play with reasonable people and not trolls. I haven't done much online play in years but it sounds like people continue to be as antisocial as the game will let them be.

Am I the only one who expected this? GTA has built a name for itself by allowing you to do completely unsocial things. It first gained notoriety for allowing you to have sex with a hooker to restore your health, then kill her to get your money back. Is anyone really surprised that a game which is based on rewarding unsocial behavior is having a hard time getting people to work together in multiplayer?

I still haven't played GTA online. I imagined it would be terrible, and from the sound of it, it is. I hope there is a way to only host a private server. Otherwise, I will be skipping it for the most part.

Car customization sucks. I added the top line transmission and engine and max durability to Franklins car. It feels barely any faster and seems to take just as much damage.

Saints Row car customization ftw.

Sadly, the only thing upgrades to is make the cars accelerate faster. Nothing else really. Bullet proof tires are nice, but I never get my tires shot out. I guess the armor makes the more durable, but I don't notice it.

That's no different than any other multiplayer game, most random people don't play together in teams. That's why it's important to play with real friends.

In a lot of games that isn't a huge problem though. In CoD, if my team doesn't want to play as a team I can John Rambo and win anyway. In GTA, it is a bunch of trolling douche bags. Not really so much of a playing as a team, but a "oh, this new player just joined, blow him up with the jet immediately because I get bullied in real life and must take my frustration out on people who haven't played as much as me."

Michael gets 2.1mil payoff from the Epsilon mission string. Access epsilon on the internet via the phone and take the test. Then wait for the icon to appear. It's tedious but worth it in the end IMO. It's also super funny as well.

Car customization sucks.
Unfortunately it kind of does. I enjoy changing the car's color and jacking up its power, but as I mentioned already, most of the other stuff doesn't matter. Upgrading brakes barely changes them, lowering suspension doesn't change its performance, either.

Also, get a sports car and level 4 engine upgrade tops out its acceleration. However, you can still add a turbo. Does that make it faster? No idea, the graph line is already tapped out. And now upgrade transmission. Does that make a difference? No idea.

GAWD I wish body armor didn't suck so fking badly. Make it a one-time increase in health is stupid. It should be a damage modifier. I don't bother buying it because in any kind of extended confrontation, the entirety of health is spent between 0 and 50% anyway. I'd also like to be able to buy the heavy duty bomb blast armor, like exists in one of those missions.

Nah, I let it sit and picked it up again this morning; same "its shit" feeling. I can't believe they didn't learn from GTA4 in so many aspects. It's like they didn't play GTA4 online at all.

Every mission I try to go on, no one joins. If I host I can't find anyone that wants to join. At one Point I was dropped into the world on a mountain and could hear others doing a mission. Yet, there was nothing on my map for me to do. If I try and join someone else's mission they leave and it just ends. Seems like the only people playing online are those in crews doing stuff together.

And most of those people are just robbing stores.

I had some fun playing with friends online, but ended up selling it for $50 tonight.
I'll wait for the PC version. If that never happens, oh well.
I loved the game, but as I said when it was first revealed button codes really killed it for me. I preferred (by far) the cell phone codes of GTA IV. Not only was it easier, you didn't flail around possibly hitting things, getting in and out of a vehicle, etc while trying to input the codes.
Half of the fun of GTA IV for me was running around with unlimited ammo and health after playing through the game a few times and just blowing things up and running from police. I preferred the police system in V for certain things, but in free roam they were just too aggressive, mostly in the one and two star situations. Going up a mountain in a dune buggy or other off road vehicle and getting passed by a police car on the way up? Yeah...no.
The PC version needs a "Police Aggressiveness" slider.
Had a great time with it overall and look forward to the next one!

How can I start union depository mission? I have finished all the other main ones I think, the last one a theft of information from FIB, and they have talked a bunch about the final heist, but now I'm just running around the city doing stupid stuff like strangers/freaks and I want to get the final mission started. Nobody has any meaningful missions on their radar. Nothing in strip club to start it.

EDIT: Some other mission for M just opened up, seems after a few mindless missions it's put me back on course.

Found an online mission that pays $9,000 (all the rest $1,000-$2,000) and takes all of five-ish minutes.

So farmed that with a friend today, and bought the $400,000 penthouse. Not even a helipad, just 10 car garage, and you can watch TV, shower, drink green stuff, listen to the radio, or look through a telescope that doesn't show you what other players are doing. What a waste. Insult to injury - it is very large, and you can only 'slowly' walk through it, like you are in stealth mode.

Lester sent an email saying I needed a high profile apartment to get bigger jobs, but apparently none of those jobs are in the game yet. Wonder if they will pay $4,000 and $5,000... online feels like a huge money-sink; blatantly designed to get people to buy via micro-transactions.

Probably selling it tomorrow, because I just don't see the fun in grinding endlessly to get millions upon millions to buy cars and planes, to use just with friends because pub play is stupid 'kill everyone'... it now costs me $6,000 a death, even in deathmatch games (where I make $800 - wtf?).

Shame Rockstar.

Everyone complaining about multiplayer and selling the game... Seriously, what the flaming hell? Don't get me wrong; I haven't played a single second of multiplayer and I have literally no idea what it's like. But basing your opinion on GTA off the multiplayer is exactly the same as basing your opinion of the Battlefield games off the singleplayer; you are completely missing the point of the game. Is GTA 5 a crappy multiplayer game? Who cares? It's the best singleplayer game since Red Dead Redemption. Not to call anyone out, but what did you expect? It's a singleplayer game and the developers are tyying to shoehorn a multiplayer onto it exactly the way they tried to shoehorn a singleplayer campaign on Battlefield. It isn't where the game was meant to excel and it doesn't. So what? I'm completely at a loss as to people who played through the game and thought "meh, the multiplayer is shit, better return it."

Well, you kind of just shot yourself in the foot in this convo and I stopped reading there. I don't care how you feel about SP or MP, but the MP portion right now is worth complaining. As mentioned before by others, little mistakes all over the place really do make online just terrible. I have no problem with lag, but couple this with tons of other bugs and it just becomes tediously painful to play. Most of the bad gameplay choices implemented online wreak of either attempted monopolization on their freemium currency or just bad game development. Who decided to make freemode = random dump into servers? Fire him; it never worked in GTA4 so why the fuck would you try again and give the user LESS features to combat griefing? Passive mode? lol ok.

I've been now dropped 5 times into an empty instance.

The copy I'm playing isn't mine, or else I'd return this and wait for the PC version to go on sale at $40. It's repetitive, grindy gameplay designed for the frat-COD crowd when it isnt buggy and annoying.

I think you're missing the point. Some people above have already said they loved single, but when you're done single all that is left is multi, so they are complaining that it sucks. Apparently it does and rockstar let out a patch this morning.

Wow, I hate that shit! I still am annoyed having to "jog" up and down stairs.
