I found my perfect settings which seem to have mostly everything on Very High except for Shadows, Post FX and Particles Quality on High. 1080p, 2x/2x, V-Sync On...

I still feel they put too much "blur" in this game but overall it's a great looking entertainment software

I agree. With motion blur and depth of field off, you can still see blur from far away, but up close seems alright...

My download is just stuck at 100% and refuses to complete. I have one of those feelings it's gonna be a long wait till I get this game working.

Damn, this game looks good. And the city is so lifelike that it is kind of creepy at times.

It runs fairly well. I set just about everything at max with 4x MSAA. I might drop AA down a bit to pick up a few frames.

Hey everyone: enable Windowed Borderless for easy alt-tabbing and screenshots

Keep in mind that borderless windowed mode will disable any features that require fullscreen such as 3D or GSync. Personally, I'd keep a game like this in fullscreen just for the latter.

I do have it installed, but I do not use it. With the 30fps cap in GTA V, why do you need RadeonPro? I don't use it often.

With RadeonPRO you can limit to any arbitrary FPS. I have been using 36 and 48fps caps for ages.

You can also use its form of FXAA which is a little better than most,or use it in addition to the games.

It also has a SMAA injector. GTA5 would look great with SMAA.

Was hoping to run GTA5 at 1080/36fps but 1080/30p will do. Just means I can crank eye candy even a little higher.

Holy F'in balls this game both looks amazing and runs well.

I basically went through all the settings and maxed them out, I then took off vsync and set MSAA to 2x and FXAA on, I disabled motion blur (i prefer it off) and I also set reflections AA to 2x. In the advanced menu I set everything on and gave the additional distance sliders a slight touch.

The resolution is 2560x1600 and I'm running a GTX980, keep in mind that 2560x1600 is 2x more pixels than 1080p (about 1/2 the pixels of UHD/4k) so this is a HARD resolution to push for a lot of games.

The first indoor scene ran sweet as a nut, started on 125fps, most of the indoor sections were 100fps+, outside in the first snow scene had some dips to about 40fps.

I then started in the main city doing the first car jacking mission, I was running about 45fps average through most of the chase which was quite good but made car control at high speeds a bit hard though, so I basically toned down a few settings to get the frame rate up to a fairly steady 60fps.

I took off the sliders in the advanced graphics menu, these looks like sliders that push the game LOD higher for distant objects so it's a sort of overkill slider, dropped them both to zero, left all the other shadows on.

I went back and set the few options that supported Ultra back down to very high and I set both the SSAO and tessellation to just high. The shadows I swapped to soft and I set the reflection AA to zero. And that pretty much did it, a constant 55fps driving through the city.

note that MOST of the graphics options (and there's a LOT) are still maxed out, the game looks not much more noticeably different (that is to say it still looks awesome)

I'll be trying this on my 1080p panel when I get it back from a friend but I have little doubt that with a 980 it'll be pretty much maxed out across the board, the big killer here is driving 2560x1600.

The city looks so vibrant and alive, there's detailed and dynamic shadows everywhere that cast across both cars and players, reflections everywhere, dynamic physics on everything and just an absolute boatload of very high resolution and unique textures, no wonder the game is 60Gb

Absolutely stunning example of what the PC can do, it almost makes me want to buy a 2nd 980 to really nail the performance on my 30" screen, this is literally the only game since my GTX580's that's made me want to upgrade.

Game looks great. Having strong framerate at 3x1080p, eyefinity is flawless. One of the best implementations i've ever seen actually.

But...

Holy ram issues. I might have my settings up too high but I've CTD TWICE in 30 mins from running out of system RAM. I have 16GB, so I have no idea how this is possible.... Anyone else having similar issues? 2x7970CF, 4790k.

Apart from that, I'm very pleased with the performance!

Played through the first mission just to get to a safe house, and have just been roaming the city (and strip clubs) gawking at everything since. LOL

Looks great, runs smooth, fantastic draw distance, city at night is awesome.

Benchmark is borked.

Flying a plane is a bitch with KB+M after being used to BF4, will have to bust out a controller and see how I can do with it sometime tomorrow.

Good point, I totally forgot about that requirement. Anyone without those extras will definitely prefer borderless.

I haven't been looking at system resource usage. Have you seen errors that actually point to memory issue, or are you guessing that based on what you are seeing?

I've been getting crashes galore, at first I wondered if it was some specific bug to 3x1080p and Crossfire, but I've done a few different things and it still happens.

2x290X in CF, 3x1080p, and I just get the standard "stopped responding" or whatever it says.

Well shit I've ran into a problem where the game is missing the ground tectures and at the first mission (after the talk to the shrink) you fall through the ground. I've reset to default settings and all that, restarted the game, only thing left is to try rolling back driver.

edit: driver didn't fix it. I think maybe the download is borked and I gotta reinstall. heh

Yeah i get a specific system memory is full error but its the windows error that is standard when you run out of ram. I think it was just the settings up too high. Dropped to one monitor and just played for an hour with no crashes. I guess when you multiply displays you need that vram in a big way. 4K basically requires Titan X I assume.

Man, mucking around with settings I no longer have first person view inside the cars.

First impressions: I ran on recommended through the first bit until I could get to a save point, but the textures were not so hot and the FXAA smearing was annoying. I bumped textures to high, which put me over 2GB of VRAM (on a 2 GB GTX 680), so I figured I was hosed, but it ran fine. On a whim, I bumped everything to max (minus shadows on "Softer" and 2x MSAA / 2x reflection MSAA) and everything runs fine. It did get a little sluggish running through the grassy wilderness around Mt. Chiliad, but no dips below 35 FPS, mostly 50ish FPS, and no sign of the stuttering that accompanies running out of VRAM. So I'm extremely impressed with the port. Great details, great draw distance, everything runs smoothly, and I can max at 1080P without issue (we'll see if that continues to be the case as I progress through the game). If you have 3+ GB of VRAM, you won't have a single issue maxing 1080P.

First person mode feels a little sluggish compared to regular FPS games on the PC, but way, way better than I anticipated, and it seems like it's going to be the way to play missions that are heavy on the shooting; not so much for driving, but it switches on the fly so you can use a controller for driving or just walking around and a keyboard/mouse for the shooting sections. It's great.

I've already played through the story on PS3 and it's one of the best games of the last decade, so it's obviously worth recommending on that scale, and this port (from what I've briefly seen of it) is fantastic. If you're on the fence about this one, get it; you won't regret it.

I think I need a significantly faster GPU to make this game buttery smooth. But overall, my frametimes are pretty steady. I am hoping to see a nice performance boost with upcoming updates from Rockstar and AMD/Nvidia.

edit: In RivaTuner Statistics Server, I am capping the fps to 54. With the built-in vsync this will help reduce the occasional stutter in gameplay.
@FutureFields - you will probably like to use this. I keep vsync on full 60fps in the game, but I cap it in the statistics server which is installed with MSI Afterburner usually. No tearing.

If someone has a Titan X they can gift me I will be spared the horrific lag fest that is 54 fps.

The game runs nicely on my budget rig. I really envy those who can max it out, your screenshots look absolutely gorgeous.
