Nice looking game no doubt. However, I'm getting a bug where full screen outputs at 960x1080 instead of 1920x1080 in Full Screen mode. Borderless window solves this problem. But with that I get weird aliasing at any resolution and I don't think DSR works.

Only full screen seems to give you the benefits of higher resolutions with DSR.

Really, really liking the FPS mode for gunning sections. Just ran through one of the first missions with shooting. I remember it being mildly obnoxious with a controller (but easy because of auto-aim); with a KB/M I got nothing but one-shot headshots and even pegged the final guy from far away to avoid a car chase. It is such a great addition and it's executed beautifully.

Been playing for 45 minutes so far.

Rudimentary performance report with an i7-4790K and a GTX 980@1080p with latest drivers:

I put all of my settings on *almost* max; save for AA (4x), Reflection AA (2x), and motion blur (don't want too much of that stuff). There's also a separate menu for "advanced graphics" with some kind of enthusiast settings that I decided not to touch.

Performance is good; with Vsync, I'm able to maintain 60FPS maybe 75% of the time, with lots of dips. As a quick fix, I bumped down AA from 4x to 2x, and disabled Nvidia TXAA. Now I'm getting almost a constant buttery-smooth 60fps. (A Nvidia-exclusive feature tanking performance, who would've thunk it? )

I'm also playing exclusively in first-person camera view. It will feel extremely cramped at first, but fortunately there's a FOV slider. No numerical value is shown underneath the slider, so it's a little vague; but from my rough measurements, max FOV appears to be a perfect 90-degree angle, which is where you should definitely put it. Feels great after that.

I also gotta say, damn, just walking outside of Franklin's house for the first time, and looking around... this is one of the most detailed games I've ever played. Like, ever. Not just in the graphics; but rather, in the amount of effort they put into making a living, breathing city. It feels so real.

huh?

I got MSAA 2x plus TXAA and reflections with 4x msaa. Everything else is totally maxed out, as high as possible. Even the advanced settings. Also PCSS

Its locked at 59-58fps (vsync is on and @ 59fps). I havent seen a dip yet.

I am completely blown away by how great this game runs. Right off the bat. WOW

I think i will try to turn off vsync and see what the framerate is without it. but man, this game plays great!!!!

One issue is the benchmark
I tried to run it first, after i guessed on the settings i might use. Well, it did some crazy stuff. Like a loop and i could control the characters but kept killing me. I had to quit the game. Something is up with the benchmark, i havent tried it since. I am still impressed with how great the game plays.

Oh yeah, i forgot.
I have my GPU boot overclocked on my win 8 drive. Its not my max overclock preset. Its just +190. This gives me 1400 boost, i think. (my max is ~1500).

What specs are you running it on?

i3-2120
HD 6780 1 gb
8 gigs RAM

I'm running it on everything normal @ 1080p. I think I'm getting 30-50 fps. Where do I enable the FPS?

It looks pretty enough as the city itself has plenty of assets & art. But it's missing the 'WOW' factor.

My cars don't have that uber shiny gloss.

I just want to add to my last post.

I restarted the game and to start logging my CPU usage with afterburner. I drove and went crazy, trying to make a lot of stuff happen. My frame rate was 58-59 but dipped to 50 and 55. there was even a dip to 49 but it still was mostly in the upper 57-59fps. I tabbed out to check my cpu log cause it was showing interesting results. Well, it wasing saving to log file, i forgot to enable it.

So i had to tab back in to play. This time, i didnt have as much stuff to run over but i still got the cops after me and crashed into everything i could, then then got out of foot and wrecked havoc until the cops got after me in a chase.
The 2nd time, just like what i said earlier, the game never dipped into the 50-55 range. It was 58-59 locked. One dip to 57.
That is very strange, i am not sure if the settings are different or what is going on. I didnt see any difference But there was an obvious different with the frame rate dipping

can anyone with 6+ core CPU's tell me what their CPU usage is? This game is pretty hard on CPU's with high settings.

edit: Bugs and more bugs.

This is why i am posting back.
I didnt think about the 6 core but i had some very interesting results.

Driving around Franklins house in the day time. Crashing and going crazy

Core 1 = 60-70%
core 2 = 30-75% it is usually around 40-50%
core 3 = 35-50%
core 4 = 45-54s
core 5 = 40-65fps
core 6 = 25-35%
core 7 = 40-50s
core 8 = 20-40
core 9 = 36-50
core10 = 30-50
core11 = 30-50 (a peak was 58)
core12 = 30-50

They all jump around and i just listed the where the trend was. Its uses a lot of CPUs. I need to DL fraps and get a real log, this MSI graph sucks cause i dont know how to easily manage the data in the log file. I would love to just have a txt file or something.

The grass setting will kill performance once you get to an area with lots of vegetation. Crushes my system when I'm in a field full of bushes. The multiplayer is also really buggy.

STeam has a FPS counter, go to settings, in-game, and check the box

also, i wouldnt complain with your specs

to be getting 30-50fps @ 1080p on your system just shows how well optimized the game is

Ya'll missing out on the OG packaged version, now with map:

Specs:

5930K @ 3.7GHz
780 Ti GHz @ 1215MHz
16GB DDR4 @ 2133MHz
350.12 drivers
1200p

Installing now (all 7 DVDs), will (eventually) post up some screens and Afterburner shots + FPS @ maxxxed out settings, less AA which is what I usually go for.

The packaging is nice. Those 7 disc do take a while to install. Which is what I'm doing now.

No you don't then you'd miss out on all the eye candy you get from the PC. Or better yet the only playable version.

The game doesn't start here (Win 8.1 x64, Titan X, latest drivers), it's stuck endlessly on the "don't turn off while loading screen".
Any suggestions?

one thing for sure the car collision physics are a serious downgrade from GTA4 which still has among the best physic and soft body deformation

If anybody is wondering it takes right around the 2 hour mark for the Disc to install. After that you still have to wait for a social club download. This will depend on your connection of course. Mine is around 2.35 and asking for roughly an hour.

FANTASTIC. Installed 60GB off 7 DVDs, now need another 5GB before playing AFTER patching. And the licence is irrevocably tied to a single PC to a single rockstar crappy DRM social rubbish thingy plus this title requires "periodic entitlement verification" and installation of "authentication software that recognizes certain hardware attributes for entitlement, digital rights management, system, and other support purposes".

And you wonder why people pirate . . . . . . would you like a kidney too? Maybe a lung while you at it? Some balls to sweeten the pot? :hmm:

I really hope they add an option to backup the game for those who downloaded the 60gb game!

I plan to format once Windows 10 hits. I really don't want to re-download 60gb....

Look forward to see how modding goes.

I might need to reinstall GTA IV and check out the Police Co-op mod: http://www.lcpdfr.com/ Looks great. Hope it makes it to GTA V.

So from what I hear it seems its a MUCH better port than any previous Rockstar Port?
I am excited to get it and start playing. I have no doubt I will run it very well at 1080P based on the performance figures posted in this thread.

Whoever said Grass Quality is the real performance killer, was exactly right. Earlier, I was gradually turning down several different options to achieve a stable 60fps. But all I REALLY needed to do was just turn down the grass quality from "Ultra" to "Very High". Where the benchmark was easily dipping into the 50's and 40's during the larger scenes, it's now almost a constant 60fps, with almost everything else maxed. The only places where it dipped below 60 was during the waterfall scene, and during the explosion at the end. Might turn down particles a notch for that.

Do you notice a big visual difference when turning down the grass detail?

Will test tomorrow, but after yet another 353MB patch the game auto defaulted to Very High for everything with shadows on softest and Vsync on. I switched it up to PCSS and left everything alone. Sliders are maxxed including population and cars. Will see if its solid Vsync 60FPS. Specs are above (somewhere). There are only 3 settings that go to ultra, grass being one. Textures and shadows hit Very High so you don't seem to be missing much. Those options all up hit just under 2.5GB VRAM according to the slider. Now after a 3hr install time I'm off.
