The game is fun. I got right into it and find myself enjoying it. It runs fine as well, but there's a little stutter here and there. Maybe the game is just that way. I'm not really caring about all that too much because the game is actually fun. The game has a kind of blurry appearance. Is that normal? It does look good though and I am impressed with it. Nice game. Its rare that I actually play a game and like it.
Also, whats with the game telling you how much Vram you need? It said I need 5.8gb and precision X shows 4.8gb usage.

when you run the SLI the VRAM usage in game shows double what is actually being used

you can pretty much ignore that entirely tbh

I get it a bit too. Sometimes it is ok though.

Something with the frame pacing I am guessing.

What drivers are you on?

The game is constantly streaming assets from the hard drive. If you install the game on an SSD, the stuttering isn't as bad. Intel's ssd cache works decently too.

You are the first person I've seen suggest this. Nobody else has mentioned SSD doing anything for in-game stutter or frame rates.

Probably because anyone with any popularity or say-so in reviewing the game is going to use an SDD, not an HDD. Same with benchmarking. It sounds like a theory worth testing.

I think he's having a SLI issue. I'm running off an HD and am not getting any stuttering.

I'm running of an SSD. Its an older SSD with about 280mb/s performance, but its still an SSD. Maybe I should reinstall onto my faster drive? I'll try the game with SLI off as well, just to see if it stutters still.

On the Xbox 360, people would install the game onto an external USB drive to improve performance.

All streaming games have some reliance on disk speed, and with the PC's further LOD settings, it's going to require more disk speed than the xbox 360 and ps3 did. Stuttering generally doesn't affect average fps much either, so it's not something that's easily noticed by a single number.

That said, I'd imagine moving from a slower SSD to a faster one isn't going to do much.

Data is streaming from the HDD to RAM there is no such thing is streaming directly from the HDD to the GPU or whatever you guys are describing. Everything must go into RAM first which makes HDD speed irrelevant for everything but loading times.

Once you get a Buzzard man the RP and cash comes in fast. Havent joined a pick up Heist setup in a week because in less than ten minutes I can get 3k RP and 15k withouth an idiot dropping or quiting seconds from completion.

I start playing in invite only sessions and spam a bunch of missions till some friends log on then do some missions with them. Less wasted time.

People need to read up on the heists a little.

Its an SLI issue. Game runs much better on a single card. I turned AA off and frame rate is high and just fine with almost no stutter at all, certainly nothing like before. I'm glad a single card can handle it on decent settings.

Actually it started doing it again. Never mind.

If we're doing Garages I'll share some of mine. I'm a hardcore car whore in this game and these are my favorites:

There are my Super/Sports (and one Sports Classic) cars. From front to back, Entity, Vacca, Jester, Stirling GT, Elegy.

This is my "Getaway" Garage. This is the Garage near the Pac Std. Bikes, so I use it for that. In here I've got a Buffalo S, Armored Karuma, Burrito Van, Merryweather Mesa, Insurgent, and Dubsta 6x6. Those last 2 are hard to see, but they're there.

Last Garage has my "extras." I've got a Coquette Classic, Warrener, Rhapsody, Unarmored Karuma, and Sultan in the back.

Not pictured is my row of Muscle cars and a few others.

You can buy the garages and put the cars in them so they're always there when you spawn. You can customize them and stuff to look how you want and make them faster. Some of them are armored like the Karumas on this page. Any car that can be bought for <100k you can store in your garage, ones over 100k you have to buy. You can also take them in most races so long as "custom" cars is on, which it usually is.

When GTA V was released on Xbox 360, I did install it on 2 USB thumb drives just for giggles.
I want to say it felt smoother than running on the Xbox 360's slow HDD, but it was minimal at best.
Having GTA V on those thumb drives sped up loading times immensely. The 2 thumb drives I used where 2 16 gb usb 2.0. They both got fairly warm to the touch which wasn't surprising.

I have GTA V installed on my SSD, but I seriously doubt playing on the HDD will make it feel more stuttery. Expect slightly longer loading times on the hard drive obviously...
I get occasional stutters and it is really difficult to say what exactly is causing it during the scene.
My guess is I am bottlenecked by both my GPU and CPU at different times depending on what's going on.
I do run this game with as many mods as I think will add to immersion, but I haven't found anything that really pushes the CPU and GPU at the same time. Even max traffic/ped mod will not stress the components much.

If I tried going back to GTA IV, I would have a lower, choppier framerate with less eye candy with similar amounts of traffic.
I had occasional stutters in Watch_Dogs as well. Thankfully these open world games are running smoother and smoother over time. I hope DX12 will help with this.

By 'stutters' I mean when playing at 60fps, a frame will get dropped. This is in such a small amount of time that it would seem like it was running at 60fps without a dropped frame if I were to just stare at the framerate meter.
I'm sure frametime graphs will help get to the bottom of exactly what is happening in GTA when a frame is dropped.

@Futurefields It is not too unfair if the 'catch up' option is checked. You can also host and turn off modded vehicles... But that can get pretty bland.

do performance mods work on races? seems unfair lol

They do. Custom cars can either be turned on or off. So if custom cars is off everyone races stock versions of the cars. If it's on you can use any car from your garage in that class, or the stock ones.
