This is no different than every GTA release since GTA III. The console versions are released 6-7 months prior to the PC version, this is how they've done things for the past two GTA games. That means, if GTA V is coming to PC it will be around March or so of next year.

Yes I know, I never doubted that it WILL come out, any other GTA made it to PC and was actually successful (in terms of popularity, sales). No reason to assume that GTA V would not come out for PC.

My guess is they didn't want to hurt current gen sales by announcing the next gen versions too quickly. With good enough reviews I was considering getting the current version, but now I feel pretty comfortable waiting for a ps4 version. I'm not sure if I agree that it's coming this same year, but it'll happen soon enough.

This is exactly the reason why GTA V for PC and PS4 hasn't been announced yet. Rockstar put a lot of money into developing the current-gen versions, and making announcements for the "higher-tech" versions would hurt current sales.

Give it some time everyone. GTA V will come to PC soon enough.

I'm playing it on 360 and despite being a graphics whore, I have no regrets about getting this version. It looks really good.

I have no idea when or even if I'll get next gen consoles and I'm open to playing through it again on PC in a couple years.

Red Dead Redemption is cause enough for me not to sit around hoping.

My guess is that they will announce versions for the PS4, XBone, and PC (all X86) at the same time. There is nothing official so this is a guess but given the acclaim and the unique timing of new console releases, Rockstar is in a position to really clean up by hitting 5 major platforms. By holding off on announcing the PC version, they have breathing room to tweak the game into what will be considered the definitive version.

RDR was made by a different studio (Rockstar San Diego) with no experience in PC development. The GTA series, on the other hand, is primarily created by Rockstar North, who develops almost every single one of their games for PCs.

Someday man, SOMEDAY. KEEP THE FAITH, IT WILL COME. LOL

I think the PC/PS4 later release theory is a good one. It makes sense that Rockstar can sell a bunch of secondary copies to those with decent PCs and early PS4 and Xbox One adopters.

It isn't a theory. If you've followed the past 3 GTA releases, you'd see that every single time the PC version was delayed by 6 to 8 months.

The same will happen this time. If it is being developed, Rockstar will maintain silence and you can expect a PC version around March of next year. This is how every GTA release in recent memory has been.

It is partially financially related - the console versions just make way more money than a PC version ever would, period. So they focus their efforts on that, and then release a PC version (if they so choose) later. The PC version won't be their priority since the potential revenue will be substantially less. By the way, the console versions sold 800 million $ in the first day.

lol. Right, and the console version of GTA V totally isn't being pirated to shit right now.

Pirating a console game is less straight forward and has consequences. One, you WILL be banned from XBLG and won't be refunded. You will also be banned from PSN+ and won't be refunded. Additionally, you need to mod your console in order to make any type of piracy work.

You can pirate on consoles? Sure. But it's a far cry from what's happening on the PC. It is definitely far less on consoles. Tons of people have been banned from both PSN+ and XBLG for using a torrented version. Tons of people also have been banned for modding.

I just hope that the porting gets same attention it did for MP3, I was impressed with that one as well.

After getting hyped by reviews and looking for clues of a PC version, I found something I didn't know whether to laugh or be sad about:

There was an actual petition NOT to port GTA 5 to the PC, roughly 10k signed it...

https://www.change.org/en-CA/petitions/rockstar-games-dont-make-a-pc-version-of-gta-v#news

LMAO. What a moron (the person who made that petition, not you).

BTW Blackened, it is much more common than you think.

Yes I am sure that Rockstar is now all eating Ramen noodles.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/09/18/gta-5-makes-800-million-in-one-day

This is what you will have to do if you make only $800 Mil in 24 hrs with
"the highest first day retail sales of any title in the history of the company and the Grand Theft Auto series".

I say, we should put all those pirates in prison right now! Shame on them for screwing Rockstar over that much!

Well I agree that PC piracy is more rampant than console piracy but mostly because it's less complicated. I refuse to believe that under same circumstances, % of console gamers pirating games would be better vs. % of PC gamers pirating games. If anything, the average age of console gamers is lower than PC games and the buying power as well. In other words, piracy would be probably be just as rampant on the consoles, if not worse, if the piracy "skill set" required was same as for the PC/they weren't afraid of tinkering.

Anyway, did they really expect people not to see through it? The guys behind and on the petition didn't start it out of " piracy concern", that's completely bogus, the one and only reason for the petition is pure hatred for the PC.

Back on topic, I am glad GTA 5 is such a money maker. These astronomical figures should turn a few heads in the industry. What small and big studios alike need to do is stop cloning COD's and take a closer look at what established giants like RockStar and smaller startups like RSI (Star Citizen) have in common and how they approach making games. Maybe, just maybe they might start making better games.

LOL guys lets be serious here. IF someone sees a game on a PC that isn't obviously an unambigous pc-only game (ie: RTS), what the average person asks if "HEY IS THAT ON PS3 OR XBOX360!"

I refuse to believe that the PC version may put a real dent into current game console sales.

However, its entirely possible the PC version may be based on this "PS4" version

The main difference with console piracy is that it requires monetary effort and time in terms of modding (not everyone cares to do this) and it also has very real consequences. If a pirated game is detected by XBLG, you're banned. Same with PSN+. With the PC? There are no ramifications whatsoever aside from malware or viruses. OTOH, there are real ramifications on consoles that can hit you where it hurts - personally I use the 360 mainly for online play with my friends - I would be mighty annoyed at being banned from XBLG. That's the best part of the online experience which isn't possible while banned.

But that doesn't stop piracy. I agree - consoles games can definitely be pirated. Never stated otherwise - it happens. The main difference is ease and consequences, and the PC ease of entry is easier while not really having consequences.

All this said, I don't think the PC version of GTA V was delayed because of this. We just don't know the answer to that. Chances are the developers wanted to focus on the versions that would bring the most monetary return, and that would be the console versions. Any PC version would generate substantially less revenue, so it was probably lower on their priority list. Aside from this, Steam has proven that PC game sales can do well despite the privacy - my one and only point here is that console piracy exists, but I don't believe it's on the same scale as PC piracy for the above reasons.

One has to wonder what Rockstar will do with their anti-piracy methods on PC this time around.
"Drunk Mode" has been done in GTA4, what's next?
People would enjoy "Smoked Out Mode" too much...

PC version of GTA3: Vice City came out 6 months after the PS2 version.
PC version of GTA3: San Andreas came out 7 months after the PS2 version.
PC version of Grand Theft Auto 4 came out 7 months after the console versions.
PC version of GTA4: The Lost and Damned came out 11.5 months after the console versions.
PC version of GTA4: The Ballad of Gay Tony came out 5.5 months after the console versions.

I hope it doesn't take long for V to come out on PC

Got it for Xbox 360 - amazing gameplay, not so great graphics (used to PC).

It will come out on PC - made by Rockstar North (RDR was Rockstar San Diego).
