GTA: Vice City video fragmenting issues

That's what it looks like most of the time. When you first load a game and go to play, it's normal- but after moving around, maybe 15-20 second things start to get progressively worse, quickly. I have no idea what could be wrong. My video card doesn't feel hot, but I'd like to be sure. How can I check the temp?

Don't believe the 5200 has a temperature sensor. I'd try running the latest version of Driver Cleaner and reinstalling card drivers - not sure about the 5x00 series, but for the 4x00 the 43.45 or 44.03 cats were the favorites - ie. not the newest ones. Might want to check around Video to see if there's a favorite driver for the 5x00 cards. How do other games run?

Don't have many other games installed, but the Half Life (1) with the high defination pack is smooth. First time I've seen anything like this on this machine. I'll look into the drivers- I haven't updates from what came on the CD.

video card defective or seriously temp issues (heatsink not seated right on card etc.)

Its amazing because VC is such an old game and doesnt even utilize newer cards a lot...if it has problems with such an old game...well then i guess you have problems....

That sounds kind of unlikely to me, it doesn't have any problems with HL-HD. I'll check the heatsink. I can run 3dMark03 without getting huge problems like that. Maybe it's specific to the GTA engine?

Installing the newest nVidia drivers did the trick. Woot!

This patch was supposed to fix some problems with graphics corruption:

Vicepatch_11.zip

This fix is an UN-SUPPORTED update that corrects polygon corruption that has been noticed on certain video cards and PC combinations.

I was going to say, not a heat issue.
I find that overheating core means lock ups. Overheating memory means little square/rectangular "blocks" of issues. Not that kind of graphical corruption (just for future reference).
