Been a short bit but i decided to install this game on a new hard drive yesterday,up to date drivers but the game has what i consider game breaking issues i am certain is due to Maxwell.

Graphics menu where it says how much resources are used,it says 203mb out of 4000mb but its in red and acclaiming the system is out of resources on the card.

Resolution and all settings at stuck at stock, non adjustable and the resolution is stuck at 800x600@56hz. Tried multiple screens, checked the files twice and the additional dlc which does the same.

I ran 347.09 with my old 770 and this game without issues,it just appears that the"4gb 970" has glitched the game out. That or 347.52 has done it but 347.09 has issues with another game......

Anyone else having these issues?Something with the card has broken the game,i may throw in my old 9500gt and see if i can make something happen with that lol.

Uploading a picture, will re-edit this post with it.

The slides are the only that appear to be adjustable.

Funny but the game works fine now but the red Warning is still there with memory usage at 892mb. Game certainly has not aged well over the years has it?I recall this pos not working with my gtx295 cause of sli so going from a 280 to a 295 for that game was a downgrade then this issue.Luckily had other games that worked with sli so not the end of the world.

God i just hope GTA5 isn't this screwed over, been playing older games then this these last few days without such issues lol.

Luck would have it and I just uploaded my 970 benchmark yesterday, lol.

Grand Theft Auto IV 1920x1080 maxed GTX 970 @1.5Ghz Core i5 2500k @4.8GHz

I don't have any such command line but there is a commandline.txt file which reads -norestrictions, which I guess is a different way to do the same thing. Steam surely did not put it there, so I must have fiddled with it some years back.

In any case, the game worked fine, although I did get the warning as well. As fine as GTA can work that is. Cpu limits on a core i5@4,8Ghz,lol.

gta 4 is broken with everything.

uninstall and throw away.

I tried playing this game with 5870s, GTX 295, 580s, 680s, 780s and came away with the same conclusion. It played like crap on everything. Getting it to look okay was an exercise in frustration. Not to mention if you bother to reinstall Windows, kiss your saves goodbye thanks to GFWL. And no, you can't get a save file or backup a save file.

IDK, the game has always run fine for me on Nvidia hardware as long as you aren't always expecting to max it out.

Always ran like [crap] for me with amd cards though.

Please watch the language in the technical forums.

I installed and played GTA4 a little less than a year ago. It was butter smooth but the graphics were much uglier than i ever remembered.

To me, GTA 5 on the PS3 looked better than GTA 4 maxed out on the PC.

Anyway, I played through several missions just for kicks. Was a very good game back in the day.

I have the very first retail PC version. 2 DVDs. It installs GFWL, Rockstar Club, and everything. Worst part is having to put the darn disc in to play........

It took me years to be comfortable with 100% digital PC game purchases. For the longest time, I would go out of my way to find the DVD Rom versions. Then it got to the point of no return, if you wanted be a PC gamer you have to accept games being strictly digital. Of course i did, i had to. But i did put up a fight for as long as i could.

So today, i kind of chuckle thinking about how i felt having to install GTA4 off 2 DVD disc last year. Then how i felt when i wanted to play it and having to put the stupid disc in. Oh, how far i had come. And there is really no going back!!!!!!!! I want all my games to be digital now.

I don't know about that one. Game runs like garbage from what I saw at my buddies house. Didn't look all that great either.

Watched it,excellent video!Maybe SkyLake+oc will resolve many of those dips,i have a i7 3770 non k that obviously is miles worst then your setup for this game.I may jump on Skylake myself.

Got my sliders at default which gives a higher fps but i will run your settings for comparison maybe sometime Bookmarked it too. Very informative.

Had it as well, after getting worst performance from my gtx295 over my old 280 i pretty much was pissed off enough to give the disc away.I don't miss it now a days as i have it on Steam.

Had a few great games on discs that got ruined, even though i took care of them so i don't miss the disc era as much as i waited for it to end.BF3 was the last game i got on disc which was a pre-order.Still had to download it lol.

Well the GPU power is wasted on the vanilla game. 3x3 supersampling AA might even be possible with your gpu.

Anyway, icenhancer does it easy in one go if you want it quick and dirty.

Yeah wasted is true, almost any recent mid range gpu can do the high settings and still be a waste lol.Icenhancer applies supersampling on the fly too?

By default, GTA4 can only detect up to 2GB of VRAM. If you have more, it results in an overflow and the game thinks that you have -2GB + whatever amount over 2GB you have (and it can overflow more than once). So, the game thinks that you have 0GB VRAM. (or technically 1MB? I'm not sure)
