who f'ing cares what resolution it runs at?

I don't know, if you have both consoles would you want the best resolution? I do have both, but the way this gen is playing out, like Halo 3 and other big titles I'm not sure 720p and big games are really that standard for this "HD gen". So, yea, I do care, maybe if you don't have both you might not, but I would like the best overall resolution. At this point however, it's probably running sub 720p for the 360 as well, which just adds to my point.

No, I really wouldn't care. And I have no doubt that it's running at the same resolution on the 360 anyway. There are other things that I care a whole lot more about than resolution. From what I hear the game looks pretty much the same on both systems anyway. Resolution isn't everything - CoD 4 looks fantastic and ran at less than 720p.

And I really wish people would stop using XXXp to refer to non-standard resolutions. 720p is a specific standard resolution, just like XGA, etc. 630p is not a resolution.

Actually no, it looks like native 720p 2xMSAA is confirmed now for the 360 version. From a design standpoint I'm not sure why they would not have just gone one resolution for both. Be it 720p or the other.

Two reasons: firsty (and most importantly) it's not costing me a penny, and secondly I have close friends on both systems that want to play MP. Not all of them have both consoles.

I plan on playing this game for a long time.

While probably a typo - firsty is my new favorite way to start a list.

Well that's interesting. But it just shows you that resolution is not everything if reviewers are to be believed and the PS3 version looks slightly better than the 360 version. If graphics are all you care about (or a primary concern), then the PS3 is probably the way to go. Of all of the multi-system owners on this board who have mentioned buying the game for one system or the other, I don't think I've seen anyone say graphics are a reason for choosing one or the other. Strong preference for one controller or ther other, preference for one online service or the other (likely due to friends), preference for one system or the other ( ) - these all seem to matter more to people than a minor difference in graphics.

That first one is in fact a very good reason to get both versions.

LMAO! That was a great type-o and will refuse to fix it if anyone asks.

I don't care, as long as the framerate is steady. I'd rather have steady fps and 100 less lines of resolution.

Well, I think it is a comboniation of things and the best package for the money is what I'm looking for as they both have there pros and cons. Heh, I just may end up getting both at this rate.

That also came from a non final build of the game. Non-retail version running off a dev kit. Others have said that it is nothing like shown there in the retail version.

Retail build.

All Im saying is it works in this case. It's perfectly in line with the 720p and 1080p.

I could be wrong, but I think Modeps was trying to say who cares if it is running @ 720p or 630p. Don't think they ever said graphics are pointless.

Are we really this spoiled as gamers? It is the insane attention to the smallest crap like this that gets the gaming community in an uproar nowadays. It doesn't matter if the game is fun or if it looks good, it's the small, pointless details like missing 100 lines of graphics information or that a game runs at 50fps instead of 60. The focus really needs to be switched back to the game play rather than bickering about the minute things.

I think graphics is still a legitimate thing to discuss with games, because whether people (who throw around terms like "graphics whore") like it or not, graphics are and always will be regarded in a high manner. Sure, gameplay is king, but graphics are important, too.

However, when you get pissed about a game being an upscaled 630p instead of a "true" 720p, then you have issues.

So people buy more stuff.

Some of the best games I've ever played had some of the worst graphics. Super Tecmo Bowl is the greatest football game of all time.

 Agreed. I'm not really into sports games these days, but I love Super Tecmo Bowl. I actually like the SNES version the best. Word.

I think it was this month's Game Informer that mentioned a remake or re-release of Tecmo Super Bowl coming out... that could be sweet.

That game has not aged well - anyone who would get enjoyment out of it today is simply running on nostalgia. Granted, today's football games won't go down in history as classics, but they're definitely more satisfying than the older stuff. I'd say NFL Blitz for the N64 is the oldest football game that is still pretty awesome by today's standards.

Hockey, baseball, and basketball games, on the other hand (NHL 94, anyone?) - have definitely passed the test of time.

This thread is now about classic sports games. Discuss.

I could care less what resolution it is as long as it runs at a smooth framerate. A solid 30fps works for me, because my TV can interpolate that to a super smooth 120fps, but gets a little wonky when the fps hitch.

Still, I prefer a real 60fps any day. Framerate is by far the most important thing gfx wise IMO. When you have a magic button like the one on my set that lets you switch between 30fps (or 24) and 120 to smooth it out, it's absolutely mind blowing when you realize how much actual detail is lost at 30fps - you cant see anything clearly when its in motion.

I don't have the magazine with me, but I don't recall if it was a re-release or a remake with substantial improvements. If it's a remake, it could be good as long as they don't try to compete directly with Madden.

Oh I couldn't disagree more. As a football simulation, sure Teco craps the bed now, but in terms of FUN, Tecmo is still top notch and I really see no way to deny that. Dancing around with Bo Jackson for a 300+ rushing yard game or throwing 100 yard darts to Jerry Rice is still a great time and would be just as fun with fictional characters.

So here's a practical question for this thread. If the game on the PS3 has to be scaled no matter what (ie, to 720p or 1080p), does that mean it can scale to 1080i, also?

Does it use the PS3's scaler?

You know, if nobody came out and said it wasn't actually running in 720p, not a single person would have even noticed. So honestly, why does it matter?
