gthumb image viewer stopped working right

Anyone know if there was a bad update in Mint or something? This started rather recently.

When I open a picture normally there is a section at the bottom where I see other pictures in the folder and I can browse through. There's also other functionality like being able to crop etc. All that is gone. The buttons are there but they do nothing. The bottom view is there but shows empty.

What would cause this and is there a way to get the functionality back?

Seems a reboot fixed this. Did not realized Microsoft devs were working on Linux now.

I've seen this sort of thing happen when certain shared libraries are updated. The issue is sometimes a shared library is pinned in memory by another program. In theory the disk version should be overwritten by the new version and loaded when the updated software is loaded but sometimes it doesn't quite work right (I forget why) and a reboot is required.

Also if kernel modules are updated things can get really screwy.
