This is probably the card I will buy, and re-purpose my current 970 to my HTPC for my 4K TV.

I am very disappointed.GTX1080 have 33% more SP than 1070 and 25% more memory bandwidth. Is this card really GTX1070 or some GTX1060 Ultra or 1060TI?
It is most cutdown x70 card ever made.

That shouldn't be a surprise to anyone given the TFLOPS numbers nVidia posted. 75% of the CC's fits almost perfectly with just slightly lower than 1080 clocks.

Edit: The same ROP count as the 1080 is a good sign though, hopefully no issues with a bifurcated memory system.

While the specs of GP104 are still hidden, we can now say that the chip packs 1920 CUDA Cores and a 256-bit controller supports both GDDR5 and GDDR5X (MSI uses GDDR5X) memory. That should suffice for up to 384 GB/s i.e. easily surpass the bandwidth offered by the GeForce GTX 980, 980 Ti, and even TITAN X. Expect GeForce GTX 1080 and 1070 to make an appearance on Computex Taipei 2016, while GP106 based 1050/1060 will debut in the fall.

Is the ROP count really confirmed yet? One link shows 64 and the other a questionable 64 is the reason I ask.

Estimated performance would be 70-75% of a GTX 1080?

Nope, It isn't confirmed and due to a same SM configuration, registry sizes etc. like on Maxwell it will be probably the same case like on GTX 970 ... "crossbar - L2 - MEMIO" stunt

I'm asssuming the 1070 is using the same die as the 1080. So I would think ROPs remain the same.

and nvidia wont admit it till someone catches them. What I thought when someone said same rop count was "here we go again"

However it is cut down, as long as there are no hidden catch 22s, the price is right if the performance is there. They are playing the 970 value card here, let's hope its a real value with no gotchas this time.

Yeah, this is a 1060 Ti if true. A true 670 successor would have 2240 shaders and the same memory bandwidth.

33% Shader and 25% Bandwidth gap is tremendous. Compare to 23% and 14% on the 970-980 gap, although also with a 14% ROP gap there. But of course the 670 really makes it look worse.

I'm not surprised they want to further separate the two. There was a big complaint about the 980 pricing when it was flagship let alone now where it is still horrendously overpriced even with a $50 price cut and with the knowledge that 970 is cutdown more than originally stated.

We first saw signs of this when they replaced 680/670/660 Ti with 770 and 760. Two SKUs per chip became the standard. This is still a larger gap than that though, since the memory speed gap is greater.

RIP old days where there would be a 2240 Shader, GDDR5X true 1070 to choose and the 1920/GDDR5 card would be the 1060 Ti.

Good news for people who were gonna buy the 1080 anyway since now it is more justified.

No one knows for certain at this point in time, will likely take another 6 months (again) before the skeletons are revealed D:

You'd think reviewers would be looking for the skeletons?

I doubt it's even cut that way. It would be a more random cutting I'd imagine.

I'm sure they'll have some limit on how many can be cut out of each grouping and still make the 1070 bin.

They should also lying to your customers ought be a punishable offence, unless someone still believes that was an honest mistake.

Assuming this is true, it would suggest that the yields weren't as good as claimed. 1920 SP is only 75% of SMs on a full die that are active.

If it performs like a 980TI for ~$380 I don't care if it has 10 SP's.

Stop inventing what cards 'should' be based on previous generations.

Can we give the FUD spreading a rest, please? Let's wait to see what the 1070 officially brings before insinuating that "thar be skeletons in that thar closet." Thanks.

Possibly. But I don't think so. GK104, at launch, had the full 100% GTX 680 and a GTX 670 with 87.5% of the Shaders. When they refreshed GK104 for the 700 series, the two options were 100% GTX 770 and 75% GTX 760. Do you think yields got worse over a year later? No, it was deliberate choice to get a larger performance gap between SKUs.
