Hello,

So i installed a brand new gtx 1070. Uninstalled old drivers +ccleaner. Stock speeds

valley.

In witcher 3 i receive 60-drops to 50 on 1080p max. Wut? It must not be like this,. Let alone planetside 2, max settings drops to 35 fps with only ~30 people on screen.

Should i just wipe the whole win 7os and resintall it..

Any advice?

Thanks

Well your CPU is going to be holding you back, even if it's overclocked heavily, it's still 5 and a half years old.

Well since i dont know what you're clocked at how should I know? For all I know you're running it at stock.

But please, tell me more about how I should magically know what you're running.

Or you know you could do what any person should do when asking for help and post your full system specs for us. But nah, i'm just being dumb here.

Good luck mate

i said everything in OP, Hairworks in on, when I say max, i mean everything is max, nothing is left at 0, unlike some shady reviews do...

Are you not reading or are you not understanding?

What is your CPU clocked at?

Is it clocked at 3.4GHz? (stock frequency) or have you overclocked it?

If it's running under 4.2GHz, i'd fully expect that to be your bottleneck, and even at higher clocks, it's still going to be holding a GTX 1070 back

sure does, didnt you read what i said earlier about cpu?

If someone wants to post "cpu bottleneck" please just ignore the thread.

you sir are hilarious.

A 6700k is still going to be a good 20-30% faster in anything CPU bound, most games just aren't CPU bound, but those that are will see decent performance gains from a newer series CPU.

A 2600k at 4.5GHz+ would probably be able to keep up with a 1070/1080 in MOST cases, but I bet you could still find some decent gains by moving up to a 4xxx or 6xxx series in CPU bound games.

I'd also like to point out, OP has still not confirmed what he is running his 2600k at, for all we know it's at stock.

Proof you didn't watch the video.

It's longer than ten minutes.

And each CPU was at 4ghz

I'm not allowed to edit on my phone meant 10.

Plus you probably didn't watch it.

I watched it from the point you linked, if you wanted me to watch the whole thing dont send me a link with it already 9+ minutes in.

And yeah I did watch it, not to mention having read the anandtech piece it referenced at the start.

Oh look, GTA5, a game known to require some decent CPU power because of all the AI and such going on, and the 2600k at 4.4GHz and a TitanX is a good 20fps slower than a 6700k at 4.4GHz.

but but that 1 year old cpu is struggling too!

i guess you have to upgrade anything over 1 year old.

also i think he broke his benchmark...

https://youtu.be/xhuC8Tf9i3I?t=5m49s

or maybe screwed something up...

this is nowhere near as bad as that one you posted.

Just gonna put it out there one more time for anyone who hasn't been paying attention.

OP still has not confirmed what clock speed he is running his 2600k at. For all you know you're defending someone running at 3.4GHz.

turbos up to 3.8

but just cause it's 5 years old doesn't mean it's junk.

I literally never said it was junk, but if you think it wont hold a GTX 1070 or 1080 back in any games you're fooling yourself, that is the bottleneck, sure it is going to be fine for most games as most games are still GPU bound not CPU bound, but dont pretend like the 6700k isn't a good 30% faster.

Agreed. His numbers aren't what he hoped for because of the dips in FPS. But with a 2600k paired with a GTX 980ti, it scores higher than when it is paired with a GTX 1070 in some games. A 2600k is still a fine CPU for gaming, but it will be slower than a 6700k. Nobody is arguing those two facts. A 6700k will bench higher than a 2600k.

I understand people like their benchmark numbers, but it ain't worth fighting about (not referring to you mnewsham even though I quoted your last post).

Is your 1070 possibly throttling?

Some factory overclocked 980ti cards at stock will still defeat a stock 1070FE card, I think.
