Silly you forgot to mention the monitor and resolution you'll be playing at.

Probably worth the extra $'s I'd imagine. I'm running a Dell 2716DG 1440p G-Sync monitor with a GTX 1070 and it's acceptable too me. If I was buying a new GPU today I'd be leaning way more towards the 1080Ti. Seeing how you have widescreen version I'd imagine the 1080Ti would be the best option.

I did 980ti heavily overclocked (faster than a 1070) to a 1080ti. Similar monitor. Yes. Worth it.

I did same as above, but I had two 980ti's overclocked and went to a single 1080ti with the same monitor you just got. Yep, it was worth it even coming from two 980ti's. Shouldn't be surprised by that though since SLI doesn't work anymore. So I guess I did have one 980ti after all.

Keep in mind we are halfway through the Pascal cycle. Some rumours proclaim that we are 2/3 or more through, actually.

Simply based on history, there is a strong chance the cutdown GV104 (GTX 2070) will have similar performance to the 1080 Ti but will retail for less and have lower power consumption.

I know you can always "wait" for the next thing, but I strongly believe it is best to get in a Nvidia cycle. So far they have been fairly consistent. If you need the performance now though go for it.

In forums of hardware junkies, curiosity will lead me to investigate, and investigation raises the chances of more consumption expenditure. I'm interested in review comparisons of 2x SLI GTX 1070 versus 1x 1080 Ti.

That being said, I already chose a "2K" 2560x1440 ZOWIE monitor, and I'll be interested in finding out how the 1070 holds up when it arrives.

If anyone asks me why 1440 with the ZOWIE when I could have got a 2560 -- reasons that might require more than a handful of fingers.

Interesting call on "worth it". I found this set of benches you might draw some info from :

http://www.babeltechreviews.com/titan-x-vs-gtx-1080-25-games-tested-4k-2k-1440p/3/

The 1080FE is likely 10-15% faster than an OCd 980Ti and the original Titan Pascal is approximately equal to a stock 1080Ti.

On one hand, having a 100Hz monitor you'd clearly benefit from the higher fps of the 1080Ti. On the other, you paid for GSync and that should make your games silky smooth at most of the games there minus 10-15% fps at 3440 X 1440.

Put this on a different thread but I think gets pretty close to your answer. I didn't have a 1070 in SLI but I had a pair of 980 Tis in SLI and the two are very close and comparable. I upgraded to a 1080 Ti last week. I was very skeptical of making the change because on paper it should be a side grade but in practice it was a solid upgrade even on games with decent SLI scaling.

For example on Witcher 3 @ 4K, with my 980 Tis in SLI, everything maxed except Hairworks and AA my FPS ranged between 40-65fps. But with the 1080 Ti, I was able to turn on AA and get higher rates @ 55-70fps. Both were very playable but with the 1080 Ti it feels noticeably smoother. Plus with a single card the computer generated a lot less heat and is much quieter. In SLI the top card got pretty warm and fans spun very quickly. Lastly, no more problems with SLI profiles and weird GPU utilization issues.

So yeah, overall it was win-win-win-win. The only loser was my wallet, haha.

EDIT: This review should also help. Scroll further down to see Single 1080 Ti, as well as SLI 1080 Tis, 1080s, and 1070s.
