I could give you a list of reasons, but I'd get warned for it. At least. I will say that most of the complaints aren't warranted. Price is the only area I can see having a problem with as these "mid range" 1070 and 1080 should be way cheaper considering GP102 is still yet to come. Titan should be 649.00
1080Ti 549.00
1080 399 to 425
1070 299 to 325
1060Ti 249.00
1060 199.00
1050 129-149

I just checked again, Almost all but a MSI GTX1080 card are unavailable. The MSI card is 829 Euro.

There is a GTX1070 Founders Edition card from EVGA available for the price of : 569 Euro. (641,6 USD)

https://www.alternate.nl/Grafische-kaarten/NVIDIA-GeForce

You use prices with VAT to compare against what, no VAT prices? The MSI card is ins tock and sold at other retailers for 749€ with 19% VAT.

Also there are plenty of cards in stock around. Few examples.

But they do sell fast.

From a business perspective, Nvidia has no reason to drop those prices (ref: previous posts by both RS in this sub-forum and myself re: 6950X prices in the CPU sub-forum). Once GP 102 comes out, then Nvidia should drop prices - especially if AMD's offerings will compete with the 1080 and lower lineup. So 1080Ti launches at 749 (no founders edition nonsense) and Titan at least 999, and drop the 1080 and lower accordingly.

From my perspective - bring the Titan out already and put me out of my planning misery.

Now I remember why I quit pc gaming a few years ago. Prices for ridiculous and I decided I was out. I refuse to spend half a grand or more on a gpu. Now a $700 gpu is normal? Geez.
Plenty of more affordable, yet capable cards exist. 1080 is a halo product. You can pick up a 980ti for less than $400. Or get one of the upcoming RX series cards from AMD, which will pack quite a punch for the price.

Yeah. If you dont already own a TitanX, 980Ti, FuryX then the 1070 I think is the sweet spot right now.

I know its capitalism, but dang it how can amazon.com let sellers charge $1000 for the 1080..they are all "new" sellers as well. hehe

Forces of economics, more like. Capitalism has nothing to do with it.

Demand is high enough that some people are willing to buy at higher than manufacturer's price, and resellers are responding to the market. Granted the ones at $1000 are too high so they aren't selling, so the real clearing price is somewhere in between.

I think Nvidia was trying to do something like this with the FE to capture the profit from the initial price surge.

Just wait until they go all in with purple pricing.

People can list the price for whatever they want (Provided its not a food product), doesn't mean people will buy it.

If demand is high enough, it may sell for that price. But if the demand isnt there, they wont sell, and the retailers will lower their price.

I guess to be fair, newegg.com is doing the same thing, making the available ones in combos to make more money.

Last premium gpu I bought was a gtx 580 Asus dc. Beast of a card but then the reality that I spent $500 on a video card dawned on me. That was the last time for me. Now people are willing to shell out $700 or even up to a $1000. I think I'd go buy a dirt bike or myself a new bicycle for that.

Do what I do. Buy a card that's 80 percent as fast in 1 year for $150 to $200, or even less. Then play the games out today on sale for $19 to $39. In the meantime, play the games from last year. The best part is, by the time you fire up these games, they've all been established with solid communities, plenty of resources online and if there are mods, a healthy modding community.
