I am wondering how much better is the GTX 275 over the GTX 260. I got my evga gtx 260 216 core 55nm back in February so I still got roughly 36 days for a trade up. I heard some people claim that gtx 275 is nothing more than souped up gtx 260 is steroid while other claim it got a good deal of performance boost.

Another thing, think my Enermax 500 watt can handle the 275? It could handle my 260 no problem but I am afraid I am using its full potential already.

Well I guess he's asking if it's rational to step up from a GTX 260 to a 275. He probably knows already the performance level of the card. ( I find it impossible to not read any of the reviews by now )

Frankly, GTX 275 offers a marginal increase in performance over 260 and it's not worth it. I'm sure that it's impossible to spot with your eyes,in games, an extra couple of fps here and there. And, like you've said, that Enermax might already be at its limits, so you could probably have issues with the extra watts the 275 is asking.

saying things like "I heard some people claim that gtx 275 is nothing more than souped up gtx 260 is steroid while other claim it got a good deal of performance boost" indicates to me that he hasnt looked at a single review of the card.

How much would the step up cost you? If it is about $30, then I'd say go for it. If it will cost you more than $50, then I would say it wouldn't be worth it.

In AT's review, the 275 is roughly 15% faster than the 260-216 across all of the games they tested at both 1680x1050 and 1900x1200.

And your Enermax should handle it just fine.

Well, I read up on review and it appe3ar to be a 260 with the SP of that of the GTX 290, it roughly have 10%-15% gain on the gtx 260. I am currently running dual 22 inch widescreen monitor with 1680 x 1050 resolution. in addtion, according to EVGA, 1792 MB version is 200, I got ym 260 for 230 so it owuld be 70 to upgrade and roughly around 20 dollar to upgrade to the 896 version. Is it worth it so will the 275 be too powerful for 22 inch?

Find out how much it will cost you to do the trade-up and base your decision on that. If it won't cost much more than shipping, then go for it! Otherwise, don't bother.

What do you use your dual 22" LCDs for?

Is it gaming or something else?

Just wondering why you think GTX 275 is neccessary?

your response earlier was a little hard to read, but from what I can gather you can get a gtx 275 for $20 plus shipping? if that is correct then I would highly recommend it, even at your low resolution.

Hmm, interesting. How does evga step up policy work? Do I just request it and send it in and pay the upgrade fee and they will send it back to me? What would be the recommended shipping method? USPS,m UPS or Fedex? Also, I would need a very cheap pci-e card as a back up while I send it in, got any recommendation or should I just go evil path and go to Best buy to buy one and then return it within 30 days?

unless something has changed its 14 days with no restocking fee but that is a little unethical to borrow a card from Best Buy.

I do not believe the 275 with the larger memory size will be available for stepup, unfortunately. Not listed, anyways, and I do not think it is considered a vanilla/reference card.

you are wasting your cash on the step up if you have a GTX 260 sp216 hold off sell the card down the road, it aint worth it. I am running a GTX 260 sp192 and play games at 1920x1200, I would not step up, I wouold possibly consider team red 4890 1gb but not a 275 , not enough performance , and I am yet to overclock my 260

Actually, the price Xellos2099 will have to pay is quite a bit less than the difference in price between the two cards at Newegg right now. Perhaps the GTX 275 will also retain better resale value in the future?

Besides, it isn't just more cores. It defaults at higher clocks all-round, core, shader and memory.

I stepped up my 260 55nm to a 275 a week or so ago and I notice much improvements. I run a 1920 x 1200 and a 1920 x 1080. I game on one and usually watch a movie on the other. I think it was worth the $5.65 or so I paid for my step up.

$28 + shipping? I would probably go for it. You'll extend the useful lifespan of your card plus increase its future resale value. When the time comes to sell it, you will probably be able to ask at least $28 more for it than someone who would be selling a GTX 260.
