GTX 560 SLI or GTX 760?

Hey,

So if you had the choice which would you run with your FX8350 overclocked to 4.6 GHz?

Obviously the 760 wins hands down when it comes to power consumption and thermal properties but what about overall performance in games?

So what'll it be? 2 X GTX 560 in SLI or a single GTX 760?

I would definitely say the single 760, from what i've heard SLI configurations are nothing but trouble and annoyance.
Of course i might be wrong though....

I have 2 GTX 660s in SLI on an Asus Sabertooth 990FX rev2 mb with a FX 8320 OC'd to 4.3Ghx (21.5x200). Outstanding system and the GTX 660s in SLI runs great.

I have a single GTX 680 on an Asus Sabertooth 990Fx rev1 mb with a FX8350 OC'd to 4.6 Ghz. Also great but the 660s are faster.

Finally, I have a 3770k OC'd to 4.5Ghz on an Asus P67 V Pro/Gen3 with 2 GTX670FTWs in SLI.
I've not had a bit of trouble with either SLI rig. Very fast, no troiuble and hardly "annoying"

A HD 7870 OC'd slightly outperforms a GTX 560 Ti Sli so a GTX 760 or HD 7950 would be faster and a much better route

even if the 560 ti sli scaled perfectly at 100%, which it will not do, it would still be about 5-10% slower than a single 760. plus 560 ti is probably just 1gb of vram which would not cut it at the settings 560 ti sli can handle.

^ He has the 560, not 560Ti, which just makes your point stronger.

No question here - the 760 hands down. It will be faster in nearly every situation.

GTX 760, then later on SLI it

That is my exact thought right now only I think it will be sooner rather than later!

I've had to RMA my PSU so I'm using a spare that isn't up to the task of powering an SLI rig, so I figured I try the new GTX 760 while I wait for the PSU to come back. If I don't like it, it can go into my secondary rig which is running an old 9800 GT.

I've benchmarked the 760 and it looks real close to the SLI setup, which was heavily overclocked, but I'm going to run the same benchmarks on the SLI setup on return and compare the two to be sure.

Of course the itch to have an SLI setup under the hood is powerful especially when you've had SLI before. Those that say it's broken, or doesn't work, or is annoying, or any other derogatory comment obviously didn't have their system tuned correctly or never had first hand experience with SLI. Whichever it may be, I've never had a single problem with SLI. It has worked flawlessly and kicked ass at every turn.

I've got a sinking feeling that there will be a shiny new 2nd 760 waiting to be installed by the time the new PSU arrives! It's getting harder and harder to explain the "extra boxes" to the wife, but it will be worth it...I hope.

Cheers everyone!

Smart choice Jabrono. As far as "explaining" the new boxes to your wife, let me share the understanding I have with my wife of 39 yrs (40 Dec 28!). I NEVER ask what came in the Talbot's box or Amazon box etc addressed to her. I always tell her it's a computer part when the Newegg box comes.

I always give her the Talbot's, Amazon, etc box right away.

I ALWAYS compliment her on her new purchase if she's wearing it. Heck I remember the time I had to bid for her on Ebay cause she didn't want to set up her own account. It was for a pair of shoes her exact size. Apparently these were only worn once and were $600 to $700 new (I had no clue) and she got them for $60 plus shipping. I wouldn't have paid that much but you know what? I would have bid those suckers up to $500 if she was happy. I placed a max bid of $100 and when she got them for $60 plus shipping I thought she was going to die and go to heaven. She waited everyday for the UPS truck to come. Don't ask me the make of the shoe. All I remember was that Sarah Jessica Parker wore the same style on Sex in the City.

Bottom line? If Mother is happy, we're all happy.

It works (so far . . . )

I agree, so far Crossfire has been fine for me, (I Know they are slightly different) the only game I have had a problem with is Batman Arkham City, with the second card only hitting 30% load, but this game is terribly coded for PC, it works better still than with no crossfire. If it is your money who gives a damn anyway, they buy far to many clothes that are to small for them just to say "ooh I'm a size 12" no your not you are a 14 squeezing into a 12.

EDIT: Thought I would add I have only had my crossfire setup for 3 days, but I have played 5 games, including Red Orchestra 2, which isn't that great for optimization either.
