I thought the 470 already had great scaling

I would reserve the use of the word "great" for the example that had the best scaling. If another example didn't do as well, it shouldn't be called great.

Imo I had come to the conclusion that the 6870 o/c- 6950 , basically all AMD @ 40nm at highest clocks had comparable performance. Even the 5870 is only 12% behind. Especially for single card use at 1920x1080.
It gets murkier with 2560x and eyefinity resolutions and the combined power of dual gpu's. 40nm limitations is where we are at.
The gtx 580 with its huge memory interface is a notch above everything and its priced that way.
The gtx 560 looks to compete with anything from AMD at 1920x1080, my opinion.

I'm blown away at that price move on the 1gb 6970. First time they made me do a double take . At the resistance to lower the price on the smaller die 5870, I find this move head scratching.
But then again, I never put much stock in the whole die size meaning much concerning bottom line pricing.
Hoorah to price cuts.

OK,good point, but would you rather have 3 gtx460's @ 850 core in tri- sli for $500$ or a $510 gtx580.

I'd like to see that $165 460.

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say Im not touching tri-sli with midrange cards. Especially cards with so little memory and bandwidth.

I think AMD want to make sure there won't be a repeat of the 460 coming out and being great value.

With overclocked 6870s at $250 and a 6970 at $280 (which an overclocked 560 won't touch). There won't be much chance for the 560 to really make an impact like the 460 did.

Another thing. Maybe AMD are getting such good yields with cayman that they feel they might as well put out a full 6970 to meet the 560. The fact that almost every 6950 is unlocking to a 6970 should mean thats entirely possible.

Unfortunately i haven't seen at 3 way 465 review's or we'd know how well 3 way 460's performed

Back on topic............I don't think it was posted.

DO you think a factory overclocked gtx560 at 1000 core could = a 6970 1gb?

At 900 and 1000MHz

We already said that the upcoming GTX 560 Ti will be a great overclocker and that we might see an impressive factory overclock with these cards. It looks like our sources were right on the money with this info as the leaked Gigabyte GTX 560 Ti OC and GTX 560 Ti SO clocks are set at 900MHz and 1000MHz for the GPU

http://www.fudzilla.com/graphics/item/21566-gigabyte-to-have-two-overclocked-gtx-560-ti-cards

Could the gtx560 be taking on both the 6950 1gb and the 6970 1gb?

No, I don't think it will.

Lets assume a 560 is slower than a 6950. a 560 is 820mhz, a 6950 is 800mhz. At lower clocks a 6950 is already faster. We know a 6950 will do 1ghz core and 5.5ghz memory. A 560 will have to do about 1.1ghz core and the same on the memory (lets just face it, that is not going to happen. Unless they put more exotic memory and a much better controller on the 560.) Do you think the average 560 will do over 1ghz on the core?

The 6970 will be out of reach frankly. As those approach 1100mhz/6000mhz.

This is all assuming a 560 can even get near 1ghz.

Why would they release a 560 faster than a 6970, that would render the 570 useless lol

Nvidia isn't. There partners are. Nvidia is going to clock the reference at 830. Gigabyte is going to release 900 core and 1000 core models.

Its a rhetorical question which is already played out with o/c 6870's that bench similar to a 6950/ even 70 in some cases.
But the 2 series have different architectures, so the results/behavior are different game to game.
Same applies to g110 and g114. different gpu's. That don't behave exactly the same. The gtx 570 has a 320mb interface its memory is clocked at 900mhz (vs 1000 on the 580) and its core is 730, the gtx 560 will indeed be nearly as fast (especially factory o/c) in some games with its 384 cores @823mhz, imho.

What else separates g110 ,g114 ? the ability for 3-4 way sli, faster, larger memory sub-system. 1.2gb, 40-rpo's etc .

Imo, Nvidia also benefits from extra performance in tessellation heavy games and yes the dreaded physX titles.
