I evaluated 6950, 560ti, and 560ti 448 a month ago and grabbed a couple MSI 560ti 448 cards for SLI. 2GB versions of the former offer more memory; but as Nirtro pointed out, 1280GB works the majority of the time. To point to one game's memory requirements at full bore is silly.
Regarding "failed" gpus, it's another case of harvesting, that's all. I like the prospect of a perfect gpu, but as long as it works and is priced right, who cares. My concerns were diminished after seeing every reviewer was able to OC 560ti 448 quite nicely with default voltage. And with those oc's, 570/580 performance was within reach.
