GTX 580 Issues... BC2 and Crysis w/AA

I picked up a pair of Asus GTX 580s a few days ago and I'm having some issues which I think I've narrowed down to drivers or possibly a psu issue(leaning towards drivers). In BC2 I get a lot of strange white/black spots popping up on the screen with anything over 1x AA on. This mainly happens on one of the Vietnam maps... Vantage Point. I also get flashing white spots in Crysis with AA on. Absolutely no problems with AA off though. I should also mention that it happens in Medal of Honor MP too...which I expected since it runs on the same engine as BC2. To me the issues I'm having don't look anything like an unstable oc causing artifacts. Everything else I've tried so far works great. Metro 2033, 4x AA, everything maxed, looks and runs great. Heaven 2.1 maxed runs perfect as well(let it loop for a good 3 hours). I'm on the 263.09 drivers right now...Win7 64bit.

So I'm just wondering if any other 570/580 owners out there are having the same issues that I am...............

Things I've tried so far:

Fresh driver install/driver sweeper
1 card at a time
Underclocking
Different PCI-E slots
Different PCI-E connectors/12v rails from the power supply
fresh BC2 install
Various settings via NV control panel such as... HQ, clamp, and so on...
Lower resolutions in BC2
and probably a bunch of other stuff I can't remember right now
Edit: ran the entire system at stock just for kicks with no change.

I ordered an AX1200 which will be here tomorrow...but my luck I'll get one with some bad coil whine which will of course drive me nuts.

Any input would be appreciated.

It's not the card bro. It has to do with the game. I get the same issues as well as fps dropping to zero and studdering.

Im not sure, but I think someone with 570SLI had an issue with Textures in BC2 and another with Black lines on the screen.

Have you tried the previous driver? Im sure its just a driver issue. Did you try different modes of AA?

I'm going to try 262.99 again. Yes, MSAA and CSAA...no difference. :/ I'm sure it probably is a driver problem. The game will run for hours no problem...except the AA issue.

I have the same cards you do and no problems here. Running an AX1200 power supply.

Thanks. It may actually be my power supply then. Hopefully the AX1200 coming in tomorrow will fix it. If not I guess it's time for a fresh install of Win7 anyway.

Got the AX1200 in today. Nice power supply...and I can't believe it's less than 8" long! It didn't fix my issue in BC2 of course. Wishful thinking I suppose. On the upside the AX1200 I received has no coil whine that I can hear. If others are running basically the same setup as me, and aren't having issues, it sounds like it's drivers/OS related. As a last resort I'm going to try running a single card in the third pci-e slot in my board. I expect it won't fix anything but you never know.

Edit: Wow sorry I should take off my beer goggles before posting...

266.35 beta was just released on the 4th. Maybe worth a try?

Thanks! I'll give them a shot.

Same issues with a fresh OS install and a new AX1200. It seems I am not alone though. Towards the bottom of this thread I found there are a few users describing the same issue. I guess the rendering errors look more like blips or spots(white or black).

Well...at least I can bench Vantage again after reinstalling the OS...since 3DM11 messed up FM's system scanner app for Vantage.

i also noticed this the other day while playing Bad Company 2 Vietnam.

(i'm using 2 GTX460 1gig cards in SLI ...happens with and without sli. they are MSI hawk talon attack cards and come clocked at 810mhz core. i did not overclock them at all, and my cpu is an I5 760 which is running at stock speeds with turbo mode enabled.)

since you posted a video of it happening in Crysis i decided to check out Crysis Warhead and low and behold, it happens there too. i get the little while flashes when looking off into the distance at trees, etc.

they seem to appear only as little white flashes in Crysis Warhead, but in Bad Company 2 Vietnam, they can appear as random black dots or white.

its very subtle too. i don't think its really as pronounced as in your video of Bad Company 2, but its something similar. at first you kinda don't even recognize it and when i did start to notice, i initially thought it was maybe a leaf or something blowing towards the screen (talking about bad company 2 vietnam). i don't think its a normal graphic effect, tho ...and it only seems to happen on certain levels ...Vantage Point being the common one.

i don't think i ever saw it happen in the regular Bad Company 2 multiplayer ...just in the Vietnam addon.

i've only noticed it in those two games.

i ran 3d Mark Vantage and that was fine ...ran 3d Mark 11 and that was fine. Lost Planet 2 benchmarks were fine. Mafia 2 benchmarks and gameplay were fine (with and without physx). Call of Duty Black Ops is fine ...etc. so it leads me to believe that its an issue with the rendering of the engines in those specific games.

when i drop the Anti Aliasing from 8xmulti sample, down to 1x in bad company 2 Vietnam ...it seems to make the little flashes stop. i turn off AA in crysis warhead and it appears to stop then, too.

i can run 16x AA or higher in Black Ops and that seems to be fine tho. so i don't think its the cards overheating.

i check the temps on the cards with GPUZ and the first card doesn't seem to go any higher than say 50c during gameplay ...the 2nd card seems to stay around 38c i think? i can't remember exactly ...but i don't think i've seen them go any higher than even 50c when the flashing is occuring.

must be a directx issue with those games, since there's reports of it occuring with ATI (AMD) cards and nvidia.

hopefully it gets fixed.

(just to note ...my power supply is an Antec Truepower New 750w Blue ...which is SLI certified up to 2 GTX470 cards according to SLi Zone.)

edit: here's another link with someone describing it ...

http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=27566936

edit again:

i tried each card separately using crysis warhead as the testing platform ...each card displayed the odd little flash here and there. it seems to occur most often at night while looking at trees/mountains off in the distance. seems to be brought on by leaves falling and smoke/fire particles moving. i'll get the odd little random flash on the screen. its small and never occurs in the same spot. when night turns to day it doesn't seem to happen as much, if at all. its almost like they are fireflies. doesn't happen in buildings from what i've seen and either not at all/ so little that i don't notice during the day time. its pretty strange.

i ran that Heaven benchmark in 1080p with max settings/extreme tessellation, 8x aa, 16x af, etc ...let that loop 5 or 6 times and everything was fine there. gpu temp on my first card never went higher than 55c and 45c on my second card.

i dunno ...this is weird. gonna try bad company2 vietnam again and see what happens. probably the same crap tho.

edit once again: i found this post on the crysis forums ...

http://www.incrysis.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=30437

he explains the exact same thing. even posts a youtube video of the little spots. same issue i have and he tested a few different cards along with saying his friend had the same issue. he says it occurs in DX10 but not in DX9.

i'd say our hardware is fine. the game has a couple issues with DX10 apparently. no worries.

Hi Guys

So I bought me last week a Gigabyte GTX 480 and guess what? I have the same problem like you have.

I'm getting massive dots in Crysis and Bad Company 2.

I did some testing which I would share with you. I found a way to remove the dots in Crysis and lower down them in Bad Company 2. I would like to ask you to give it a try and let me know as I want to find why this is happening.

Before I will write what I did I will shortly mention which troubleshooting steps I did and why I don't thing this is a problem DirectX problem.

As first I was thinking that the problem could be because the card is overheating, but it's not. Using MSI Afterburner I compared the GPU usage and temperature used in Crysis between 9800 GT and 480 GTX. The resultat was more less the same.

Then I was thinking that this might be a problem with Direct X so I installed Windows XP 32 bit and used Direct X 9.0c from my Bad Company CD. Problem was the same. To make sure I used few driver releases, and it was the same on Direct X 9.

At this point i decided to play around with the game settings.

In Crysis I change the setting for Shadows Quality to Medium - thanks to that the dots dissapeared
In Bad Company 2 I change the Qulity Effects in the Advanced Graphic settings and the dots are not large anymore like before

It's possible that the names I give above are wrong as I don't have a english version of both games. In that case just try to change all effects to low and which option are responsible for the artefacts.

Please let me knowhow it work for you as I'm trying to understand where the problem is.

Like Zimmerman1911 wrote it might be a problem with the engine used in the game, or it's realy a issue with the driver or firmware on the Graphic Card. It seems that this isn't a problem with direct x self as I thing installing windows Xp on a different hard drive which supports Direct X 9 was the best troubleshooting to find out if the issue is with version 10 or 11. Normally I'm a Windows 7 user.

I thing I will report that problem with the online shop where I bought it just to ask them if they have any updates from their supplier.

Waiting to hear from you
Kind Regards
Cynok

This is an issue with nvidia hardware and anti-aliasing in these games. It has been around forever and never has been resolved.

I get the flashing dots ( I would call them more circles, they are bigger than a single pixel ) in Crysis and BFBC2 with AA enabled, with AA disabled they go away.

Also oddly, I do not get the circles in Warhead, only in Crysis. Also oddly, nvidia had this same error in Fallout: NV with AA enabled and they fixed it via drivers, but the problem remains in Crysis and BFBC2.

I think it's hardware related as they haven't ever fixed it or addressed it and it only occurs on Fermi class cards. GTX 2XX and G80 cards do not have the issue.
