Funny how some people take their dissapointment of the 69xx series out not on AMD, but NVIDIA...cart before horse...

I have to laugh at this statement. What does this have to do with availability or AMD? You're obviously pro-Nvidia by looking at all your posts and doing the same thing you say others are doing.

I really don't get all the "fanboi" crap. People on both sides go to war so hard for either Nvidia or AMD like it's a holy war. It seems like you'd defend the company to the death, which is outright stupid. Makes me wonder if you got indicted to murder if you'd expect a man with a company logo on his shirt to bust into court and save you. If I get banned for this, so be it. This is not directed at anyone in particular, but I wish some of you would "come out of the closet" and stop pretending to be neutral. It's really gotten old. There's more drama in here than in P&N, which is just plain sad.

I'd like to take a moment and thank the people in this forum that use a level head and use logic to bring their points across. I don't browse all over the internet when looking for a purchase. I come here when making a purchasing decision to find the information I'm looking for. I've kept a mental note of who to look for to find valid information. I'd venture to say it would be very difficult for a new member to wade through all the misinformation.

Nah, no soft launch - nvidia had plenty in stock on launch day and they've sold out despite a pretty decent price gouge. I would imagine the 580 is expensive and difficult to produce, but who knows really.

Right up to the release of the 6970, newegg had stock of the 580. Once the benches dropped the stock went away.

exactly.................

Probably a combination of both but all on nVidia though because they can't keep up to what demand there may be, imho.

So even though TigerDirect a major retailer has them, the OP refuses to change the title. Huh.....

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&searchbtn.y=0

Seems best buy even has them
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/PNY+Tech...=1218273554236

I guess they are not "major" though.

Yes, they are major outlets. But....Tiger busts up your packages for you, and who wants to drive for four hours to Best Buy ?

You might, but I don't. And how many times are you going to post that link to Tiger ? Those are the crappy brands, why do you think they still have them.

Show me Gigabyte/EVGA/ASUS cards in stock.

Ones at Tiger are ones noone wants.

I have to agree there does seem to be an inordinate and worrying brand loyalty in this forum that flies in the face of common sense. Some posters I believe are paid up representatives of certain companies and if so they should but won't declare their interest. I can't name names because I don't know but I've bought 7800GTX 512mb and radeon 850XTPE and many other cards from both manufacturers. I just think it's plain silly to blindly support either Nvidia OR AMD.
But AMD are best!:whiste:

I have to agree with some of the things you said Jacky60.

I'd be willing to bet that certain people here believe I "love" AMD and "hate" Nvidia. What is funny is that they couldn't be more wrong. I like AMD and NVidia the same.

However.......

When I see lies/mistruth/misinformation/cherry picked benches/whatever....I am going to counter it if possible. If the Nvidia "fans only" make their posts in a way that is so easy to counter, then that is on them.

But I cant sit there and read blatant lies/posts about how NV is great with this and that and how fast their cards are, and AMD should just drown themselves.

But the thing is, the "only" ones that I see doing this type of things are openly admitted fanboys of NVidia.

Talking about image quality/being in stock.....If I decide to buy an EVGA card. THAT is what I want. Not some crap PNY/Sparkle stuff. So the card "I" would want...is OOS.

And even the Best Buy and those places that are four hours from here in Baltimore...that is all they carry as well. Well...they used to carry BFG cards.

Once again, I never said it was a paper launch. I said...the card I would want..is OOS. Oh but its ok, a 580 is a 580 card right ? That is the kind of stuff the fans want you to believe. Well....Let's see you step-up using PNY/Sparkle brands to a faster card within 90 days.

It honestly looked like the front tire of the delivery truck parked on the corner of the package while he drank his coffee looking at GPS.. The package contained the Gigabyte UD3P you see listed below. So great that is still worked.

And to be honest, yea, I do live in the mountains. The Shenandoah Mountains.

Lets see though....The hardware stores "even though 4 hour drive" are Bestbuy/Circuit City/Staples <---what a joke.

Ive never been to a Microcenter in my life. But I hear "I think" there is one in PA.

I couldn't leave my wife after 21 years. But she doesn't cheat either.

Woah, We just went WAY off topic.

My dad has received a few screwed up packages as well. Few from Tiger, and even a few from Newegg. I have never received a bad one from the Egg though.

But, like I said....some money coming in. I may grab a 570 and a 6970 and build identical computers. One card in each running side by side.

Yep, I'm gonna do that I think. Wife needs a new PC anyway.

Still don't know what to do with the 6870 though.

Don't know what the fuss is about...besides somehow trying to "vindicate" the 6970...since the red camp pumped up the expectations for the performance way to high for reality. *shrugs*

I know I like mine...but not enough to buy 2 and go multi-GPU and screw with the facts that it just works.

Now I can just await the refresh of Kepler/"what ever AMD is making" before looking at a new card.

My personal brand of GPUs are as follows...

Nvidia = EVGA/GIGABYTE/ASUS
AMD = XFX/GIGABYTE/ASUS

I don't really see it as trying to "vindicate" the AMD cards. I see it a lot more as getting the truth out when someone is being obvious by putting NV in a better light. But thats me.

Of course, there are some AMD fans that make threads about it. But I for one, If you look at my posting history....I post NV and AMD articles. FWIW.

I mean, if someone posted an AMD thread stating that the 6950 was beating the 580 at stock clocks. I'd be posting in there as well.

But ... back on topic. I am on auto-notify from the Egg for several pieces of hardware. Including the 580.

Im even contemplating returning a XFX6870 for a Gigabyte GTX470.

All of my cards prior the the 9800GTX in the sig below has been ATI brands. But that is only because the 7900GTX you see below really really had piss poor IQ.

Except for the 6870.

Cards I have lying here right now.....

ATI 9800 Pro
ATI 9600 AGP
ATI X1800XL
GeForce 7600GT OC<---Awesome overclocking
Geforce 7900GTX
GeForce 8800GTS 640
GeForce 9800GTX
AMD 6870
Upcoming = 6970 / 580 / 570 / 6950 Crossfire

Well if anyone wants absolute facts about their popularity, I have a story.

I had to RMA a GTX 580 and I was dealing with newegg on trying to find a time they would have another shipment. On December 12th (I think) they were getting 80 video cards (EVGA GTX 580) and told me to be on the lookout. Well I saw them in stock so I put one in the shopping cart but I wanted to negotiate shipping because I had to go through a whole weird procedure to RMA. I had a meeting however so I went to the meeting and all 80 video cards were sold out after 2 hours and I was SOL. It kind of worked out in the end because I'm happy with my GTX 570 and I saved some cash.

Now I don't know if 80 video cards from one vendor at one website selling out in a couple hours is significant, but it impressed me.

I don't think you get it, and this is why it's funny when I am called "new" around here.

History lesson: When the 68XX series was selling out, and that employee from Fry's (faxon) stated that the cards were flying off the shelves at his store (it was in a Tweakboy thread on 68XX being out of stock at his local Fry's), the Nvidia team surged to the forums to squash the notion that the cards were selling well by scouring the net looking for links speculating about production issues and so on.

So, when AMD cards can't be found on shelves there had to have been (according to the Nvidia team) a lack of supply, and it wasn't seen as a positive result that many of the cards produced were selling. In fact some sites wrote click-generating pieces saying that since AMD wasn't saturating demand that they were "suffering", and those of you with memories like mine will recall the links being produced on this forum. I've posted what I've typed so far without even looking up the relevant threads. That's how well I remember the scenario.

Now that the GTX580 is tough to find (and it is) the Nvidia team are drawing a necessary correlation between low supply and "selling like hotcakes". It's the same situation (but now for Nvidia instead of AMD) and the very same people who were faulting AMD for selling out in stores with the 68XX are praising Nvidia for selling nearly every 580. This is rank hypocrisy that is transparently illustrated as I've just done. Posting the relevant posters' previous posts would be 'calling them out', so I can't. Boo hoo.

I said the same thing then and I'll say the same thing now: if Nvidia are selling every 580 they are making, good for them. It's the best single gpu setup there is these days. I said this back when the 68XX came out regarding AMD's sales and met with huge resistance. I wonder how much resistance I'll garner for saying something positive about Nvidia :whiste:

Oh no you didn't! *L*

Didn't you get the memo...the 580GTX cannot be both selling AND outperforming AMD at the same time...the world is at an END!
