* 6950 Crossfire is $80 less than a single GTX580....while destroying it.
Don't you mean $80 more? or did GTX580 prices go up by $140?

Yes. The 460 1370 model simply isn't eligible for a step up. I have no idea why.
Just a guess, but it's probably too high volume of a piece. I'm sure they work the averages of how many people take advantage of the upgrade program. The volume of a piece like that would possibly make the cost prohibitive.
...and in the spirit of this thread, It's because they don't have enough of a supply of the gtx-580 to be able to do it.
Sure looks that way by the posts in the 580 step-up thread over at evga. 2000 people in the list, this week the list moved through only 3 people.
It's a few days before Christmas. People are buying cards for themselves and their families.
Land's End was sold out of their standard denim jeans this weekend when I went to use a $25 off $75 coupon. Were their jeans soft-launched too?
Or stock is going out to full-price new sales first, with the step-up customers needing to wait until after the xmas rush.
Maybe it is a soft launch, I'd just like to see better evidence.
Amazing that no one has offered any kind of real evidence other than the anecdotal or just made up statements.

Other forums have been discussing it as well.

And you can compare things like this:

to the other posts in the HD6900 thread showing how many cards there were. Not so many GTX580s, certainly at launch (although it is a more expensive card).
OR
People could just claim they are selling like hotcakes and there are no supply issues without any evidence to back their statements up.
Because NVIDIA has the fastest single GPU and they don't like that.
^^
I agree with the spirit of your post, but there is something positive to be said about the fastest single gpu card available (the GTX580), at least for people like me who have never and will never go SLI/Crossfire while the cons in those setups are still noticeable.
I don't think he has anything against the 580m he even considering it. Just has an issue with someone's post.

So much for rules.

Don't you mean Nvidia has the fastest single PCB graphics card ? Oh...they don't have that either. That would be the 5970.
Might want to read the update sticky
"Occasional personal comments that can be categorized as mild banter and tongue-in-cheek back-and-forth are to be expected in VC&G."
So far today, on newegg alone, I could have purchased a PNY, Galaxy, Palit, and EVGA GTX580.
The definition of paper launch escapes many of the people here I gather...
What they have is superior drivers and that alone is everything...
I'll gladly pay extra for that...

Tight stock indeed. :|
Drivers I cannot comment on, since I have not used a ATI/AMD card in the last 3 years.
Sure, the 580 is a great card. I am not and will not dispute that. But, if you want to pay a $130 premium for better drivers. Then by all means do it.
When was the last time you used AMD drivers? If you are speaking without recent experience, shut up please.
