I am planning on upgrading sometime in the next 5 months to run games like skyrime, Crysis 2, Witcher 2 etc. in DirectX11(tessellation) and I have been using amd cards for about 6 years now and am thinking of changing to Nvidia because of better driver support. I really do not want to have to wait until December or 2012 to have to upgrade.

The card would probably be matched up with an i7-2600k unless bulldozer turns out to be better because even though the i7-990x seems a little too expensive for a small performance increase at higher resolutions which could be substituted with some CPU water cooling.

I was thinking of getting some kind of zero maintenance GPU water cooling(like the OMNI from coolitsystems) for the 590 because the reviews say it has been down clocked and there is some more significant performance left in the card and it may be noisy when the two 590s are at full load with a game. In addition, I wanted to avoid building this system and go through a system builder.

Does anyone know of a system builder that would offer a zero maintenance water cooling solution for the gtx 590?

Would a Dell 30"(up to 2560x1600) be too much of a bottleneck for these cards in two way SLI for DX11 games for the next 3 years or is this card just for 3 monitors?

If you're not upgrading immediately, it may be more worthwhile to wait until the next generation of cards hits. The most recent rumors suggest that the Radeon 7000 series will launch late 3Q or 4Q of this year and that Nvidia will have new cards in the first quarter of next year.

If you want to change up to Nvidia, it may be better to upgrade now rather than waiting. Alternatively, you could wait for the new AMD cards to hit and hope that the 590 gets a price drop.

The rumors also said BullDozer would be here now , to go with the 990FX AM3+ motherboards that are for sale.
2560x1600 resolution monitors will not bottleneck any gpu setup, in some demanding games especially.

"I am planning on upgrading sometime in the next 5 months..."

Really worth it to wait then, new parts might just hit the shelves and that always shakes things up especially at the high end like what your looking at. If there no information on new parts in a few months then maybe its worth grabbing some 590s. But since you arent ready yet its only logical to say "wait".

The jump from 40nm to 28nm should be significant so if AMD drops those new cards and Nvidia doesnt lower prices on this current gen theres probably going to be some 580s/590s going on the market...since your going to be watercooling and voiding the warrenty anyway used cards might not be a bad idea.

Oh and there are a few system builders that offer full watercooling, but I dont think any of them are truly maintainance free...not for GPUs anyway.

Cyberpower is probably the cheapest, Falcon Northwest probably the more expensive. Theres Digital Storm and probably a few others that didnt just pop off the top of my head.

Oh and have you seen benchmarks for 590 SLI? With the bandwidth limitations of the 1155 platform (2x8) and the limited VRAM on the 590s you wont see much benefit over simple 580 SLI even at high resolutions. With just a single 30" monitor 580 SLI can get 60+ FPS even in Crysis. Not trying to stop you, just thought Id mention it.

Quad SLI has lots of scaling issues, and the 590's have not been well received. For a 2560x1600, it would make more sense to get SLI 580's, and you wouldn't need as insane of a PSU either. 2600k overclocked + SLI 580's will destroy Skyrim (note from the trailers/E3 demo vids it does not look as detailed as The Witcher 2, not even close).

it's not time to get 4-way SLi this time.
you can use GTX 580 SOC SLi is good for power & performance.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

How has the driver support for Nvidia cards been over the past 3 years?

I think 570 SLI is the best way to go personally.

bell I haven't met a game yet my sli 560 ti's won't max out at 1080p.

At that resolution you vram will help you out and that means 580 3gb, or any of the top radeons. 590 gtx sli can get vram restricted since they only have 1.5gb of ram. If you can't wait maybe tri-sli 580 3gb? or tri-fire 6970s?

Avoid the 590's.

I personally would go 570s or 6950's, but if you got the money, go with 6990's Crossfire anyday over 590's, IMO.

I used to game on a U2711 2560x1440 monitor, but I hated the resolution for everything other than gaming. My Eyes are just not good enough. That resolution is not meant for everybody, so I down sized to 1080p and sold my 6990. I was running a single 6990 and it has no issues at all maxing out all my games at 1440p
