GTX 650 good for Physx?

I right now have a GTX 680 4GB and was considering adding a dedicated card for Physx. I can afford another GTX 680 4GB and dedicate it to Physx but I think that would be overkill as I don't want SLI. I was thinking about buying a GTX 650 for Physx duties and off loading the Physx duties from my GTX 680. Is a GTX 650 a good card for Physx?

What's wrong with running PhysX on the GTX680? In what game is GTX680 not sufficient to run PhysX and graphics simultaneously?

I have Borderlands 2 and I'm going to start playing it soon and that games uses Physx. So a GTX 680 without a dedicated Physx card will run Borderlands 2 smoothly at 1080p with details and Physx maxed out? I don't want to spend the money on a dedicated Physx card if won't get more than a 20% increase in performance in games that take advantage of Physx, especially that there are very few games that currently use Physx.

I was also thinking about getting a little extra physx power myself with a GTX650 to help my GTX 670. Caustic caverns kill this card on BL2.

I'm also considering a GTX 650 for dedicated Physc in Bl2, no matter if you hate Nvidia and their Physx tech, it has no doubt got us consumers considering dropping coin on more Nvidia products.

A 650 may be overkill - I bought a GT440 (96sp) so I could use PhysX with my HD6950 and it's utilization barely goes over 50% in big battles.

A GTX 650 is a nice physX card. I traded my 650 up to a 650Ti since when I sell AC3 the bottom line cost will be the same and the Ti is even better as a physX card.

asus 680 Gives me Amazing Borderlands 2 With Ultra Settings!! 1080!
I wanned to Add a 460 as physx BUT pro's all over the web said that it Will be useless!
GTX680 can Handle (and will Handle) Anything you throw at him these days!

I don't think it is useless since even people in this forum are seeing big fps drops when only on a 680 and running physx (high) on it in 4 player co-op.

The concern I would have with the 460 is it dumping alot of heat into your case since it uses alot more power than a 650.

i think the 650ti would be a lot better for physx than a 650. It has the Assassins Creed 3 bundle and i find it to be very compelling. I have been waiting for AC3 for a long time now. I loved Assassins creed 1 & 2. BrotherHood was pretty good but with Revelations i have grown tired of Ezio and his world. I think they milked it.

But Assassins creed 3 is a whole new chapter. With a new assassin and time period. I am 100% interested in AC3. Just watching the 4 part making of Assasins creed 3 really draws me into the game. I guess i am a sucker.

Anyway, its got me thinking that i might pick up the 650ti + AC3 bundle. Since i am already have vested interest in AC3, the 650ti will be pretty cheap and not much more. I keep coming back to it and it seems like a probably will buy it. Then its got me thinking what i could do with the 660ti. I think i will use it for physx. Also i might put it in a spare PC that the my son could use. He is only in kindergarten but he is always on my PC.

So thats where i am. Leaning on the 650ti because i am getting AC3 anyway. Then i can have a GPU for physx and a spare PC. Just to toy around with....i think.

For Phsyx all you need is a 460 1GB.

But why get it when 3 games support it. Are you a batman freak ? Or Dirt 3 freak ?

Other then that its a waiste of money, a waiste of space and heat making your actual video card get hotter.

Also now with powerful nvidia cards, you can just use its own phsyx and you dont need a dedicated card. Also with powerful CPU's you can have your CPU do the phsyx. but usually leave it on default which is auto select. What you scared your not getting the phsyx you should in batman ? Or Borderlands 2 or whatever game you playin? It was good years ago when GPUs were slower, but now,,,,, phsyx on a 6xx can be used no need for extra card. You will see no difference except your case will get hotter and your GPU will get hotter. That is all it will do for you. UE4 have phsyx ? Cry Engine 3 have phsyx ? Your putting too much emphasis on phsyx,, its a useless tech that is in 1 out of every 20 games. forget it. Enjoy your graphics card dont cram another one making yours hotter for no reason and use extra power wattage. gl

Just pulled the trigger on a GTX 650ti for Physx, the Ass Creed 3 bonus was the incing on the cake.

Borderlands 2 has 2 levels of hardware PhysX, and both do cause huge slowdowns on even a GTX 680 at 19x10 and above.

I've thought about picking up a second card for PhysX, but the software PhysX in BL2 is already pretty good so I'll probably not get around to it.

That, and I do care about power, heat and noise. Even if the 650 is quiet enough it could heat up the 680 making its fan run louder.

PhysX ruins Borderlands 2 for me. The gore is messed up and almost non-existent, and the way fluids are affected just looks worse in most cases IMO.

I have a GTX660Ti and I can play with PhysX turned up at 1920x1080 without a problem, I just choose not to because it actually kind of takes away from the experience for me.

I haven't started playing BL2 yet, maybe in a month from now I'll get to it as I have other games that I'm busy playing and I have not completed BL1 yet. Maybe there will be a good deal on a GTX 650 Ti by the time I'm ready to play BL2. I'd rather have GTX 650 Ti over a regular GTX 650 for physx if I could get a good deal on the Ti. Also I plan on buying ACIII for the PC. Will ACIII support Physx?

No. The point is that the 650ti comes with Assassins creed3 and this makes it a pretty good deal if your already gonna buy AC3.

I couldnt resist and ordered this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...Graphics-Cards

I was debating a 2gb but when i looked at reviews i didnt see any reason to was money on one.

This card has a higher core clock than a lot of them. I was reading that physX really cares more about core clocks so i plan on doing some testing on this.

My GPU was fine but......
I was gonna buy AC3 anyway, i have been waiting for it for ever now. i felt like why not get something to toy around too. I am building a PC for my son (5yr old) cause he is always wanting to play on mine. Now the 650ti will serve us well. A toy for PhysX, etc for me.... and a GPU for my sons computer. I think that will work out fine

So you are going to use it first and when you are done playing a game with Physx you are going to take it out of your PC and put in in your son's PC?

He is building a PC for his son. A 650Ti is enough to run most games today at reasonable levels on it's own. Would be a good card for his son. My son is running a 560Ti.

well i got a bunch of spare parts and i was gonna throw it together for my son to play on. it lacked a GPU. I also have been waiting for AC3 so the 650ti was a great bundle cause i got the 650 cheap. So now i got an extra GPU that can run physx and I got Assassins creed 3. So of course i want to check it out for physX.

So i guess i was thinking out loud. I was just saying that the card wont go unused. My son uses my PC all the time but i plan on building another for him. It could end up in his machine ultimately. Maybe, it was a thought. But i do know i will be using it for physX for sure. From there its just a bunch of random neurons firing out of control. My brain is often all over the place. lol

I would start playing BL2 and then see if you even need the extra power. Not many games even use physx and it is just a waste to spend that much money to have it just sit there for most of the games that come out. SLI is much less of a waste as you can use it in every game and will even work as a dedicated physx card if you need it. SLI and physx should work well enough that you won't ever need to make it into a dedicated card.

As I mentioned, I can afford a 2nd 4GB GTX 680 and dedicate the 2nd GTX 680 as a Physx GPU when I play a Physx supported game if I have problems with SLI a Physx supported game or if it will perform better without SLI and with one GTX 680 for Physx. I also have to consider the drawbacks of SLI. SLI also takes up a tiny amount of CPU resources. Is there input lag and microstuttering in BL2 if SLI is being used?

i think nvidia greatly improved microstuttering for kepler cards. I am not sure what the experience would be like but there are a few SLI member here that should know more.

I have heard that for a dedicated physX card the 680 is no better than the 650. But then i keep thinking that as the scenes get really complex with random physx actions, eventually the extra cuda cores will have to be more effective. There is little information out there on this stuff, that is why i want to try some of this stuff out myself.

As for getting another 680. I think that it would be a super powerful rig and physX shouldnt be the deciding factor on this. The power of 2 680s is way more important than physX and i think that is a nice toy all by itself.

i want to give a try on a 650 ti for dedicated physx, i used 2 670 sli on 3 monitor, 5760x1080p.. i put my old 560 ti for physX... work fine on game that used physX, like BL2, fluid 60-56 fps(v-sync) when maximum of physx on the game! and 60 to 25 fps without the dedicated physx... but when i playing battlefeld3, it drop on fps too. 60 to 45 fps . i think the 560 ti too much for a physx, consume too much of power, 170w like a 670, a 650ti is about 105w, has the double of cuda core of the 560 ti, maybe will work better overall on all game than the 560ti dediacted...
