I really, really need a new card and i am eying a very cheap GTX 570 which i could buy used, to replace my ancient GTX 275.

Now i see GTX 670 is to be released within weeks. It is said to have "slightly higher performance than the 570".

What would be the advantages of a GTX 670 over the 570?

IMO a 670 (in case it is second just to 680 for nvidia, ie. if there is no 670 TI), in that case , will be >=7950 or btw a 7950 and 7970. So if you can have it for around $400 it would be pretty decent. IMO it should be nearly 30-60% faster than GTX 570 and will probably cost nearly 1.5 times as much as well, somewhere around $400 or so.

I really want a paper launch and release date info on these. Gtx 680 seems to be the best deal at the moment, but $500 is just too much for me.

Well they say "April", maybe May...

Anway, looking at some of the rumor sites and rumored specs, say 660 TI or similar...i have problems seeing a difference between this and the 570. The 660 TI is said to have about 570 performance.

Am i right that both (660/670 as well as 570) support DX 11.1, so i dont really see the difference...i guess i need to read up more on Kepler architecture.

I mean, being able to watch the "New Dawn" demo cannot be the only criteria?

My biggest reason for wanting to upgrade to a lower-end GTX 600 series card over a current gen 570 or 580 is mostly due to the much lower power requirements. If i'm going to upgrade, i'd like to still be able to use my TrioPower 550Watt PS, which should be no problem with a GTX 660 or 670 card.

Hello,

yes of course you have a point here, but to be honest the power requirements were not really my main concerns EVER when deciding on a card.

I am still puzzled and confused because i don't see the point of waiting for 670 660TI etc. - likely giving on par performance with the 570 - NO new DX features, no better performance??? In fact, i dont see the point of those cards at all if one were not to buy a 680 for having the best performing single graphics card - in particular since i already saw used 570s for as low as €140.

Let's just assume that the mid-range 600 cards would be around €250+/-...which would make an old, used 570 for €140 much, much more attractive seeing there is no real performance/feature lost over a "new", say 660 TI?

With the scarcity if the 680, I wouldn't hold your breath on the 670 coming out that soon. Better to sell a $500 card than a cheaper one. If the 670 is a gk104 chip, maybe they are amassing failed 680s. Maybe not.

I don't think the 6xx series mid range will be too impressive. Wouldn't surprise me to see the next release to be a gk106 as gtx660 with 570 to 580 performance.

Wait for a 670 only if a 7950 oc model for $400 sounds worth waiting to you. The 670 won't offer much more

I say you buy a 480 for $200 used, you'll get better performance out of that than you would any newer mid range card from either camp and save yourself some serious coin in the process. You'd need at least a 7870 to match a GTX 480/580 but even the 7870 gets smacked around by both here and there.

Bad generation for value cards thus far, people are actually paying more for performance that we've had cheaper for quite some time now.

Just as a guess, do you think a Q9650 oced to 3.6 ghz would be able to handle a 670? I'm trying to figure out what I should look at as my top option.

The expectation is that the gtx670 will have 7/8 of it's GPC's enabled, giving it 1344 cuda cores. The operational frequency isn't known at this time, but I am sure it will be tuned so that it performs slightly better than the hd7950.

I don't think the 6xx series mid range will be too impressive. Wouldn't surprise me to see the next release to be a gk106 as gtx660 with 570 to 580 performance.

Indeed, if gk106 is half of gk104 on the cores, as rumors suggest, it absolutely must have a 256-bit memory interface or it's going to get clobbered by pitcairn in performance. Even if it has a 256-bit memory interface, I still don't see it beating an hd7870.

A stock 7870 nearly equals a gtx 580 and once overclocked it beats an Oced 580 or stock 7950

An Oced 7850 nearly equals a stock gtx 580 and beats an Oced 480.

I don't think that a 768 CUDA cores GK106 can beat a 7870. It would be half of GK104 and GTX680 is just 40% faster than 7870. I'm curious how they stack up to each other with those dice we can finally compare architectures apples to apples. Wonder if kepler still comes out better than pure gaming tahiti in terms of performance per watt, per mm2.

I've decided to just go ahead and upgrade from a 460 768MB to an inexpensive OC'd 560 Ti I found online. That should hold me through the first release of Kepler and into AMD's 8000 series. Then we'll see how things have gone as far as driver issues, pricing, and technology are concerned. I'm hoping to see something new from AMD. All this shuffling that they're doing is a little concerning. Maybe it was time for a change. Or maybe AMD is turning it's focus elsewhere.

I found myself in a similar boat. I had an eVGA GTX460 SC edition that was good, but having noticed a friend's 560Ti Classified getting great performance I started to look into an upgrade. I ended up getting an eVGA 570 SC from someone locally for $220. Originally I had planned to pickup a 660Ti in April, but it is looking like these won't be out until August. The 670 and 670Ti will probably not be out until May. My best guess is they will cost $350 and $400 respectively. At this price point I think I will hold off on buying any newer card and wait until actual specs and benchmarks are released. With all the unknowns about future GTX600 series cards and the GF104 and possible GF110 processor releases I think I will wait and see what comes down the pipe.

Yeah , really like how the 680 is performing, but $500 is way too much.was going to wait for a 660ti, but it will still prob be $300 at least. My last two cards were under$100 (260 & 460 768). Saw the eva 560ti 448 on amazon for 189ar and just got in on one b4 it sold out. Prob won't get much cheaper than that (miss those under $100 tie 3 days). Using the rest of my $ on an ivy.

Don't forget that 570 prices are dropping like mad, people sell them cheap now. Really, if the Keplers would have new features like a new Shader or DX whatever...i would wait...but i think at this point i might get a cheap used 570 and then just wait for a real new card which is an improvement in that price range. 660 TI/670 simply is not.

Well since Kepler is almost doubling of CUDAs rather than a mild refresh, the 670 should be a nice increase from a 570 (unlike its milder increaes from 470). But price looks to be real h igh when u can get 560 448 for like under $200.

I wonder if Nvidia will be able to put more GTX 670s than GTX 680s on the shelves.
