GTX 680 vs GTX 485 (SLI) - Any benchmarks/tests?

I'm currently running 2x GTX 485 on my Sabertooth P67 (16x/8x) and I'm wondering how it would compare to a single GTX 680.

Are there any benchmarks for this?

I've never been a big fan of SLI so I'm hoping to upgrade my SLI setup to a faster single-card setup but I'm not sure a single GTX 680 will do it...

480 < 580 by 15% or so, which is im assuming 15 - 20 % slower than a 680, so two 480's should beat a 680

Ooops. I meant GTX 480.

So I guess I'll have to wait until the GTX 780? (I'm not upset at saving money of course, but was hoping the 680 was a bit faster...)

The 480's should be slightly faster, however you do get an extra 500mb of VRAM if you get the 680. The real benefits of getting a gtx 680 would be that you won't have two jet engine space heaters in your room anymore.

Wrong. I did an analysis comparing 590 and 6990 and 6950 cf and 580 sli and 680 oc and 7970 oc. The newer cards traded blows with each and downright beat the 6950 cf and were more or less equal to 590 and 6990 in most of the stuff, sometimes faster, sometimes slower, overall pretty close. 580 sli was like 20-30% faster overall

But in terms of min fps, consistency and overall experience a 680 oc or 7970 oc is better than 570 sli or 6970 sli with similar performance in most games except a few

And 480 is like 570 so a 580 is like 20% faster and a 680 oc is like 60-90% faster than a 480 stock where it counts

My 470s due to large overclocking headroom are faster than a 680 OC.

480 depending on your clocks could be noticeably slower, if you're running stock for instance 15-20% slower per card.

I think it's a sidegrade in performance probably even a loss of it, but power consumption will be less than half, along with heat, and noise output reductions.

If performance is your top priority there is no reason to switch to a single 680, if the other factors are nearly as important or just as important switch now and sell once BigK comes out imo.

This. Highly Oced 485s may be faster by some margin but it would more or less be a side grade with some advantages and some disadvantages.

An Oced 680 is like 15% faster than a 680 stock. And a 480 is 85% of a 580. So you get an extra 40% difference straight besides the difference in the benches

Overclockers.com has a member that did just that, some basic benches between these two. The 480s are a hair better, but barely.

At stock? What kind of system does he have? Do you have a link, I'd like to look it over if at all possible.

Thanks.

Wow even 480's in SLI are toasted by a single 680

His 680 seems pretty fast for "stock", though hey hey turbo boost what really is stock there lol... :whiste:

Pretty nice, has he done any overclocking?

It's still slower than my 470s, at least at stock vs OC. Would be interesting no less to see his scaling. I can't help but to think his cpu is holding his 480s back a bit. 4.5GHz on a i7 isn't the 480's best friend, and probably has something to do with why my 470s do so well, my i5 runs noticeably faster. Nvidia said they were going to try to have less cpu dependency with this gen, but there is no question Fermi loves cpu speed.

3Dmark he gets P gpu 9256 - I get almost 13k

Vantage he gets 34.5K gpu - I get 42.5k GPU

Heaven he's getting around 90 - I get around 105

Dirt 3 he gets 116 with 4xmsaa - I get 130 with 8xQ

Crysis he gets 59 - I get 76.

Nice card though, near stock 480 SLI performance at less than half the power :$

Still a performance downgrade especially if you can manage OC's on the 480s, with water they'll run around 900 core or more, still a beastly setup imo.

If you do go GK104, I'd keep a 480 in house because more than likely you'll want to offload it at a premium just before rumors of BigK really start to take flight and cause resale of the 680 to drop.

Whatever score he gets add 20% to it because it isn't Oced yet. You will be about equal in avg fps but his min fps would be higher and the performance would be far more consistent and smooth. For a person buying today, I would get a 680 at 500 than 470 oc sli at 350

I woudn't go so far as say toasted.

Some cases it's better, some not. But if you're already running 480s, depending on your resolution, it may not be worth upgrading.

I've got OC'd 570s in SLI and I certainly won't be upgrading for a while.
