Hopefully someone with way better computer knowledge can help me out. I am planning on upgrading from my GTX 570 because it just can't keep up with Skyrim with Skyrim Revisted and the texture overhauls. I want to be able to run all of the texture overhauls and ENB along with the gameplay changes in the SR guide. Right now I am stuck between purchasing a GTX 760 or a GTX 770.

I have an SSD for Skyrim already but with a resolution of 1680x1080 and with no intentions of going higher Im not sure if the 770 would just be overkill.

Any suggestions would be great!

Not to be a fanboy.. but 7950 or 7970. Modded skyrim is one of the few games that benefits from the 3 GB of memory. Or buy a 4 Gb Nvidia card

It will be the memory limit of the 570...whereas the 760 with 2Gb should be ample, especially with just a 16x10 panel.....

I have to say, the 7950 has very good value right now. The GTX 760 is a good choice too, but Skyrim can gobble up more than 2gb with the right mods.

Go 760 4GB or 7950 3GB.

The 770 is awful value right now.

You can't beat the value of the 7950 for $200 or less as it's been on sale lately.

gtx570 w/ 1.3GB is no slouch - especially for 1680x1080.

your issue sounds like a cpu/memory bandwidth bottleneck issue?
what cpu and what chipset and what ram?

Hey guys thank you for the fast replies. I don't plan on buying a new monitor because I am more than happy with a resolution of 1680x1050.

System Specs:

CPU: Intel i5-2500k @ 3.30GHz
RAM:CORSAIR, 8GB (2 x 4GB) Vengeance PC3-12800 DDR3 1600MHz CL9 (9-9-9-24) 1.5V SDRAM DIMM, Non-ECC
Video Card: GTX 570

You think it could possibly be the CPU or RAM causing a bottle neck? Maybe the speed of the CPU but I can't see 8GB of RAM being a slouch for just gaming purposes, but again my computer knowledge is little to none.

In any case whichever card I decided, the GTX 760 or the 770, I will be purchasing the 4GB version. I just don't want to spend $300+ more for the 770 when I would be able to run Skyrim with 100+ mods on my resolution if the 760 would be able to perform just as well.

Anyway, thank you guys again so much for the help I really appreciate it. Hopefully Ill be making this purchase by the end of today.

What is your motherboard? you have a balanced system so don't bother about bottlenecks too much.Regarding 760 I would opt for Msi 760 gaming or Asus DC II.Actually forget that, 760 4gb is atrocious value and you don't need 4gb for your resolution anyway. This one looks way better

7950 could be a little of a win, some 7950s start off nearly $30 cheaper then the 2gb gtx760 cards on newegg and already sport a extra 1gb of memory.

The MSI gtx760 HAWK and the Zotac gtx760 AMP! rock the highest identical oc out of the box pushing pass gtx670 performance so either of those would work since the gtx770 may just be out of your price range anyways or get something like the Asus DC2 gtx760 and oc it yourself.

Me i am hoping this friday the MSI Hawk is finally in stock cause that is what i will be going with myself.

You can also try THIS

This will help if your card is running out of vram. Even a highly OC'd 7950 struggles with Skryim with 2K/4K Textures (up to 2.8GB VRAM usage) with an ENB with SSAO enabled @ 1080P Dips into the mid 30's. W/O SSAO I see 50-60FPS.

Definitely 7950. You can't beat the value for the price and both for Skyrim and upcoming titles 3Gb can prove to be useful. I know that some claim it won't be for your monitor, but the 79xx series are still better value. And trust me, you will want to upgrace that 1680x1050 monitor sooner or later, and my bet is on sooner.

I'll trying to OC the CPU thanks for the tip.

The 770 is not really out of my price range at all. But if I can save the money because my computer isn't going to need all that power, than I rather would. My only guilt here is the fact that I would be spending over $500+ for a video card that a $300 one could do just as well if not better on a 1680x1050 resolution.

Again, this is mainly so I can get Skyrim running with ENB, all those nice textures mods, and some gameplay ones. Im just tired of trying to play a choppy stuttering game due to FPS.

give you system spec. it is balanced.
per your usage. gtx570 has enough power, 1.3GB just not enough vram.

agree with others. chances are - you are exceeding the vram threshold with all those additional mods.

per newegg. cheapest gpu that can get the job done at 1680x1080 with more vram is 7950 w/ 3GB for $200 AMIR. that is an awesome deal. then sell the 570 for ~$125. best $75 you spent in upgrade.

I think there is a couple things you cant enable with an AMD card. That said I stick with my original suggestion.. 7950

I looked over at TECHPOWERUP and it looks to me that the game is more CPU limited at your resolution. I think I would try some overclocking first, and see what you can get up to. I played around with my 2500 when I first got it and was able to hit 4.9. Don't need it, but nice it know it's there if I need it.

What would be great is knowing what "ENB" is an acronym for...its a pet peeve of mine. If you are going to use an acronym, just define the damn thing.
