Hello, it's right in the title. I can get a GTX 780 for 400 or GTX 780 Ti for $550. I have a NEC 30"monitor 2560x1600. let me know what you gus think? Is the $150 worth getting the Ti instead of the 780? Thanks

For gaming, either one of them is going to fall short on such a high resolution if you expect to play demanding games on high/maxed out settings. I'd recommend 2x4GB GTX 770s instead.

I thought the 770 was just a rebranded gtx 680 which has 2GB of Ram only, no? and how much they retail for?

Not worth it if you're just using one card. Up your budget and get two 780s if you can.

4GB versions of the GTX 770 start around $370 @ newegg.

But, if you can get a GTX 780 for $400 I'd say go for it. Hard to turn it down at that price.

Even though a GTX 780Ti @ $550 is a great deal, it's not worth the additional $150 over the GTX 780.

I run a 30" dell U3011, and I started off with a single 780Ti. I ended up getting a second one to SLI, and now games run where I would like them to for the most part.

The extra 2GB on the 770 is wasted as the chip doesn't have the bandwidth to use the extra memory....

Unless you like to max your games out, one 780ti is fine. Lots of settings give very little IQ for the performance hit, I find it unnecessary in most games I turn them down/off, ie: DoF, HDAO, HBAO, Bokeh etc.

I kind of like some of those effects. Depends on the game and how it's used. Something like Skyrim with mods to add DoF and such feels unnatural, but it can be done better.

The 780ti is about equal in performance to 770 SLI, faster when over clocked. I would much rather have a single GPU and the option to add another than just another, weaker GPU. But that's just me.

I ran BF3 just fine at that res on a single 6970, though I had to turn a bunch of stuff down, and never really noticed to be honest. Playing multiplayer you want shadows and terrain on low anyway.

I find that pretty hard to believe. SLI GTX 770 is about 50% faster than a single GTX 780. A GTX 780Ti is roughly 20% faster than the GTX 780.

Benchmarks of GTX 770 SLI and GTX 780:

Benchmarks showing GTX 780Ti is roughly 20% faster than GTX 780:

The 770 SLI ref. is 20-25% faster than the 780 ti ref in C3,TR, BioShock, and MOHW in these games at 2550x1440. The 780 ti ref doesn't win one BM over the 770 sli ref in the below review.

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/gtx_780_ti_sli_geforce_review,15.html

Really because in this Anandtech bench here 4k High Detail MLL you have the 780ti with a 50% advantage over 770 SLI
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/GPU14/887

That's a HUGE indication of where that race will go if details and resolutions keep going up. Why don't you recommend a product you don't own for it's merits, rather than your own product because of some misplaced definition of "pride".

Trevader, I am just pointing your broad statement is incorrect when it comes to 2560x1440-2560x1600 which the res this thread is about.

Hope that helps and you get it now.

an OC'd 780 Ti will run stuff maxed. You might have to leave AA off on BF4 or something. Get a Ti, and throw another one with it down the road.

Don't listen to these clowns telling you to get 4 gig 770's.

While not 1600p, I have no problems running stuff at 60fps+ with my 780Ti. I get around 80fps in BF4 on 60 player maps using Ultra settings, HBAO, 4x MSAA. This is pretty close to what my CF 280x setup could do.

I have a couple 30" Dells (looking to add a 3rd from Korea). One of the machines has a 780 GHz ed. and my 8 yo plays BF4 and CoD on it. I don't think it has maxed out settings but it seems to run fine. The other computer only has a 5770 but my 10 yo only plays Minecraft or L4D2 and neither of those pose any problems.

If your definition of maxed is running BF4 without AA I reckon the OP will be disappointed. I always thought maxed or maxxed meant maximum settings not minimum settings or leaving AA off completely. There will be jaggies and creeping textures which will both obviate the benefit of running at 2560/1600. He'd be better getting two 780's now, anything less isn't going to cut it (by cut it I mean look pretty enough on such a big monitor) at that resolution even with today's most demanding games never mind future ones. I agree regarding not getting two 770 4gb models.
