Heck I just spent the last week having a mental breakdown trying to get both cards going in LTC. I had to revert back to Windows 7 and 13.6 Beta 2... Blue screens, 99% usage on the second card at desktop, system shut down, it's been a mess for me.

Really? I've been running 3 7950s since April on a Win7 x64 machine. Was very easy to do. Going from a single 7950 to 3, I just popped in the other 2 cards, used a single miner for those, and it was good to go. I was using the 13.3 driver up until recently when I upgraded to the 13.11 beta 9.5 driver and hash rates actually went up.

Is now a good time to pick up a 780 Ti? I was told to wait for non-reference cards. Are these out already?

I game at 1440p, so I figure this would be my best single card solution. I do not want to run Crossfire.

If now is a good time to purchase them, are there any benchmarks/reviews of each model or is there a certain model I should go for?

It really only needs to be faster than one 7950, the last time I used CF was the BF4 beta, before that Crysis 3... To many issues for me to personally deal with it daily.

I know this is a bit OT, but I recently tried HD7870CFX for a second time, and while it provided performance equivalent to a GTX780/R9 290 in a lot of games, the 99% usage on the desktop was a killer for me. It happened, as far as I could tell, only in Microsoft Office 2013 apps, but I almost always have at least one open.

Balla - could that have been your issue?

I linked a non-reference card right above your post...running over 1ghz guaranteed.

Thanks. Are there any good benchmarks/reviews I can look at? I'm also from Canada, here's to hoping they're available here!

Also, can we expect more in the next couple of weeks? I do not need to purchase this until Christmas.

That non-reference card that OCGuy linked is brand-new. If you can wait, definitely hold off until a few more are on the market, just to give you some choices. Asus and MSI will likely have some nice options. I haven't yet seen any reviews of this card, but that could be because it's brand-new. Generally, the Gigabyte cooler is very effective, though.

Thanks. I can definitely wait a little longer. I am just worried the price will rise (for some reason this card is the exact same price in Canada as the States, something that never happens).

I really want to try out NVidia since I had such a bad experience with my XFX 5970. I guess I shouldn't even worry about the 290x, eh?

NVidia cards seem relatively safe from all the mining, which is good!

The "wait" thing is definately unique to this generation.

The reviews for most 780ti cards are already out....inventory is where the issue is.

Not going to get much better...that has to be a pricing error. Time to open the package on my doorstep, and decide to keep or try to snag the Windforce.

I must be lucky or blind but I haven't seen any CF related problems playing BF 4 or Crysis 3 but maybe with BF 4 was beta related for you.

Can you describe what problems you were having with BF4 and Crysis 3 I am curious to know?

Edit Ok I forgot one minor problem (imo) when BF4 is loading the intro movie before you play the game it slows down for about 5 seconds along with the audio.

If you want one for MSRP I suggest you get it asap.

All the AMD/ATi cards 7950 and up are perpetually out of stock, meaning normal customers will be >>all<< shifted to either wait or to buy Nvidia cards.

This is obviously going to have an effect on Nvidia's supplies of cards and thus price points.

290s @400 USD all out of stock again.

290x @550 USD all out of stock.

Newegg even sold out of all their pre-order 7950s, 7970s, and 280xs

All Amazon stocks of 290/290x are heavily price inflated.

It definitely seems like AMD/ATi will have a very happy holidays.

On a side-note, only 2 out of 10 in-stock models of 770 2gB cards are at or below 330 USD
Only 3 out of 17 in-stock models of 780 3gB cards are at or below 500 USD

Seems like the massive buyout of Retailer's stocks of AMD/ATi mid-high end cards by miners are straining the stocks of Retailer's stocks of Nvidia's mid-high end cards from normal consumers.

Just read the review given to me which pretty much convinced me to just pull the trigger. I see it comparing to other setups but why is it not compared at all to any other 780 Ti cards?

There should be more info out there if you google it.....to be honest I just linked the first one I saw.

Most of the aftermarket 780ti cards will be very close to equaling each other, with a few exceptions which will cost a bit more - such as the lightning, classified, HOF, etc. Those cards will be more aggressively binned (AFAIK), aside from those - you can pretty much buy any aftermarket 780ti and they will all be very good. Personally i'd be okay with any of the following: Asus DC II, Gigabyte Windforce III GHz edition, or maybe the MSI gamer edition. The EVGA SC ACX is also a consideration although that is using a reference PCB and will OC slightly worse.....The asus, Gigabyte and MSI will overclock in similar territory and will all be quiet at 100% GPU load.

The classified and lightning will cost a bit more and will have a bit more in terms of voltage options, but you'll pay for the privilege as mentioned. Those cards will cost more than the asus, wf3, EVGA SC ACX or msi gamer.

Personally if you're looking for a 780ti, you can't get much better than the WF3. You can wait for more options but unless you want over-voltage, it's not really worth waiting. I think the WF3 revision 2 cooler is pretty impressive, it is very quiet at 100% load.

Thanks! I've done a bunch of googling but come up short =) My guess is there's just none really out there yet that compare them all?

There are two that are out now and already reviewed: Gigabyte WF3 Ghz edition and the EVGA SC ACX 780ti. The others haven't hit etailers just yet.....like I said though, it doesn't get much better than the WF3 revision 2. It's a great cooler.

And it's fast! A few % faster than the GTX 690 even at stock clocks.

Acoustics are also impressive:

Thanks. Last question before I hit the purchase button. There are no 290x non-references out yet, correct? Those should be out later this month? Are they expected to be comparable to this card? I don't really have any brand loyalty but I'd rather not go Radeon. It won't be a big enough price/performance difference to go to Radeon though, I'm assuming =o

ASUS Maximus VI hero is a good MoBo to match with this card as well, eh?

PS: Sorry for all the questions. This is a huge purchase and I am not entirely informed.

Not a chance in hell that you will be able to purchase one unless you camp newegg like a hawk.

They will be out of stock instantly for mining.

Nope, aftermarket 290X cards are not out yet. The only thing I saw was the lightning 290X and DC II 290X which won't be out until January from what i've read. Gibbo at OC UK stated that the aftermarket 290/290X cards will not be out in December (and won't be out until January), but who knows.

You'll have a hard time getting them because apparently non PC gaming LTC miners are buying all the inventory....

Although if LTC takes a sustained dive there will be some good deals on used cards.

I sold my 7950 for 400 USD. The chances of that scenario are pretty low.

The only reason the 290s and 290xs lasted so long on newegg is because people are not a fan of 90 dB datacenter style rigs.

7950s were 400$ on newegg earlier today. All of those cards are rising in price like crazy....I wonder if the gouging will hit the 290 cards..../tangent

In any case, you can pretty much take your pick of aftermarket 780ti cards - I can't think of any aftermarket design on the green side that isn't very good. They're all pretty darn awesome and faster than the GTX 690.
