Colorful is well known Chinese Brand with the cooling solutions for top end Nvidia cards.

880 will be Huge!

The cooler was announced during a conference in mainland China

The cooler is both air and water capable.

Now, judging from the size of it, the flagship will be huge. You can compare the Powerful IGame 780Ti to this one. Colorful 780Ti cooler ends up being shorter when measuring the distance starting from a water loop holes(2 fans and a half of 3rd vs 1 fan and a half of 2nd on 780Ti) . At this point, the size of the cooler can be considered practical as GTX 880 is very close to release.

Any link to a source on these, seems to just be random pictures pulled from the internet with an anecdote added

Colorful are known for their OC edition cards, so that is why a cooler is quiet long! But considering there is not much of a length difference between a reference and an OC edition card of the same model, the card is still huge.

The link the op provided says its a IGame concept cooler for the GTX 700 & up coming 800 series.

Expreview says that only 800 will use new concept and design of the cooler and 700 IGame coolers will use an old one.

From the source

Cooler developed by the Institute iGame, customized to reflect the concept of modular cooling concept iGame Modular graphics, but they also made it clear that the current GTX 700 series graphics cards in addition GTX 750/750 Ti outside, will follow the previous LOGO, LOGO and official opening of the new custom concept in the next GTX 800 series only.

Those are all custom coolers, Don't think the new cards are that big. Plus that cooler for the 780TI is 3 slot, while the card is otherwise 2 slot, so yeah.

Doesn't say absolutely anything about the new 880 card.

Its not a GTX880. And its not even considered as a product yet. Its simply a concept demo.

Its a demo of a modular design (Using a 780.).

So basicly you got 3 "cooling slots". You can populate these with whatever type you wish. Hence modular card.

People need to read OP before posting!

At this point manufactures know the accurate specifications of the card. As they need time to make a cooler.

Pconline.com.cn got a more covering article on the subject. And 880 is not mentioned at all.

Yeah both cards are 780's, and is just an article about the cooler itself. Nothing mentions the 880.

Also, this threads title hurts to read.

If they really need this kind of cooler for GTX 880/Ti that means healthy, non insignificant gains over 780 Ti (35%??) and no GM200 in sight.

And/Or it means some OEM want to offer superior cooling over stock coolers.
Water+air designs have some extra space requirements as well I assume

It has been mentioned here before... Basically 580->680 kind of scenario.

OK here it goes:

This is 250-300W cooler.

I reckon 150W GM204 should equate 780 Ti.
So it seems that NV is going to tap into TDP reserve and OC the $#()* out of it in order to achieve desired performance.

And they wouldn't be torturing its silicone, ruining its metrics by running it on its limits, if GM200 was just around the corner.
I mean, they do that all the time, but only in future(2nd) revision.

And/Or it means some OEM want to offer superior cooling over stock coolers.

well ofc anything is possible, we 're just guessing.
and I did say "if they really need this kind of cooler"
